The soul is the ocean of the consciousness.

Until the seekers attention is fixed on the formless substance and witness of the three states,  the nondual truth will not be revealed.

The individual experiences of birth, life, death and the world are unimportant because they are part of the illusion.   Without the consciousness, the true self, the illusion ceases to exist.   The individual experience of burden and bondage are reality within the illusion but they are unimportant from the ultimate standpoint.

All the individual experiences of riches and poverty, success and failure, pain and pleasure, desires are nothing to do with the formless self because they are mere illusion created out of consciousness, which is the nature of the self.  Due to ignorance a person within the illusion experiences it as reality.  The self –knowledge is necessary to realize the individual experience within the universe is mere illusion created out of consciousness.   Thus consciousness alone is real and eternal.

The soul is the ocean of the consciousness. People who ought to know better, people who deemed to generally wise are hunting for pleasure without trying to know the soul, which is the inner most self. The soul or consciousness is the formless substance and witness of the universe or Mind, which appears as waking or dream and disappears as deep sleep. Thus, all the three states are nothing but consciousness because the consciousness pervades all the three states.

No god can exist without the self, which consciousness. Consciousness is ultimate truth.  And ultimate truth itself is god.

One has to renounce the three states mentally by realizing their unreal nature and cling to their formless substance and witness, which is real and eternal to realize there is no second thing exist other than consciousness.

Strengthening his conviction about the self which is consciousness by realizing the illusory nature of the three states is real renunciation. Reflecting constantly on the formless witness of the three states, leads one to self-awareness.

In Self –awareness there is unity in diversity. In unity or  oneness there is  neither the day or night nor Sun, Moon, sky or stars nor darkness nor light nor air or water nor the animate and inanimate  remains as reality; only those who have reached that realm realizes the fact that, the  three states are mere mirage created out of consciousness.

Earth and the sky, that land is inhabited by people are reality within the illusion. One who has accomplished Self-Realization, realizes the fact that, there is no truth in their in their physical existence within the universe.

Form, time and space have no access there, nor do the sunshine and moonlight exist there but only formless non-dual self-awareness.

Self-Awareness is not attainable through "hath- yoga" by hath- yogis, nor by ascetics or performers of austere devotion who burn their bodies in the fire ascetic practices or self-mortification. Those who recognize the soul, as true self will be able to enter self-awareness.

A Gnani sees clearly; he comes to know the true nature of the three states. A Gnani is fully are of the fact that that all the three states are mere mirage created out of consciousness because the formless substance and witness of the three states is consciousness.   The consciousness alone is real and all the three states are falsehood. By mentally clinging to consciousness, which is the true self and dropping the three states, one enters the self-awareness.

Seeker must first know what is before him. If he cannot know that, what else can he know or understand? If he gives up the external world in his inquiry, he cannot get the whole truth.

Till one has the conviction that he is an individual separate from the world and world existed prior to him, and he is born in this world afterwards, he will not be able to cross the threshold of duality (illusion), which he experiences as reality.  If accepts the duality [illusion or mind or waking] as reality he will never be able to grasp the ultimate truth or Brahman.

The duality is reality only on the standpoint of false self.  There is a need to reduce mentally the whole experience of diversity [man+ universe] into mind and mind into spirit ( soul or consciousness) in order to realize the non-dual truth.  Consciousness itself is ultimate truth or Brahman.

Seeker must first know what is before him. If he cannot know that, what else can he know or understand? If he gives up the external world in his inquiry, he cannot get the whole truth.

One cannot know the truth until one knows the stuff from which the mind is created. The goal of pursuit of truth is to realize the fact that, the true self is not physical but it is the formless soul or  spirit or consciousness

Many people are struck with awe or reverence at the outer indications of renunciation, and thus blindly accept a man to be a Gnani. The two have no connection. Because he has no wife, no family, and no possessions" they think man who has merely repressed these desires as though these things had anything to do with wisdom he is mere religious man. People are quite incompetent to judge who is a Gnani between god men, intellectuals, and yogis. A Gnani is neither a god men, nor yogi, nor swami,  nor intellectual.

The man who speaks about god, scriptures and religion is not a Gnani. A yogi who speaks about yoga is not a Gnani. A God man who indulges in miracle is not a Gnani. An intellectual who argues on his own speculated theories is not a Gnani. A Gnani is the one who guides people towards the source of the mind (physical existence) is real Gnani. A Gnani never claims himself a teacher nor does he accept any one as disciple.

The first step is of knowing “Self" is not physical but it is formless spirit.  The second is to know the spirit is ultimate truth or Brahman." Then alone he realizes the ultimate  truth or Brahman . knowing the truth of the whole universe is wisdom, i.e. the whole truth.

“Soul”  or consciousness as “Self “is the key that opens the door of ultimate truth or Brahman. This understanding is certainly necessary at the first stage, when the mind is wandering. At the end the mind gets stilled and knows its formless essence and becomes one with it. Then there is no witness nor witnessed everything is one and the whole.

The formula "What is ‘I’?" presupposes the existence of an ‘I’. But this is only an assumption. Before proceeding to act on such a formula one ought first to inquire whether there is such a thing as an ‘I’.

Those who have been baffled by unsuccessful inquiry, reading, intellection, have to find out what are the obstacles on the way what is blocking them from grasping, understanding and assimilating the non-dual truth.

Yoga is intended to remove the hindrance in pursuit of truth such as sexual desire, worries, anxieties, desire for wealth etc. and also to enable one to keep out from irrelevant thoughts whilst making inquiry, analysis and reasoning.

All this has to be done before indulging in pursuit of truth. Therefore yoga has only a negative value and is a preparatory stage. Pursuit of truth starts from what is seen, i.e. the three states.  Wisdom comes from both knowing the three states and the formless witness of the three states.

To leave out one of these parts is to prevent attainment of wisdom. "Who am I” is useful no doubt, it has certainly a value in its place, and gives some knowledge of self as, the Witness. But what about the witnessed? The three states are mere object to the witness. It must also be looked at. If the witnessed (three states) is ignored, then "Who am I” cannot give the full truth.

“Who am ‘I’” is   yogic inquiry; not the spiritualistic; the latter deals with the whole of life whereas the former deals with a part only.

"Who am I” inquiry limits only to the physical entity, because there, is no person in truth but only in the illusion of mystics.  ‘It should be "What is I?"

The question "Who am I” is a religious, not a spiritualistic question. It is a most selfish one. It is on a par with "What shall I be after death?" and "What shall I get in return for my good karma in next life?" It is purely egocentric and it is based on the false self.

Only the people who are serious in knowing the truth can lift their thoughts above ego and ask "What is the mind?"  All  the three states  put together make the soul, the innermost self, not merely the ego questioning itself ''What is  I.”

People are most interested in themselves before they gets interested in the world therefore, the "Who am I?" inquiry leads only to reveal half-truth.    The “Who am I? – Inquiry is useful as a first stage to show the illusoriness of ego and thus help seeker to get rid of it. It helps the seeker to prepare him to consider the higher question: What is the world, what is mind, what is “Self” the truth about which cannot be learnt by those attached to their ego, with its prejudices against idealism, etc.

All the diversity is reality within the illusory reality.

There is no me or you and others, no seeking, no enlightenment, no desire, no ego no world, there is no pain or pleasure, no world, no purpose, and nothing that has to be achieved in the realm of reality. All the diversity is reality within the illusory reality.

All appearance is spirit, because the formless substance of the appearance is spirit, and the formless substance itself is the witness of the appearance.  Thus the substance and witness of the appearance is one and the sane spirit.  Therefore thee is no second thing other then the formless  soul  or  spirit or consciousness, hence it is non-dual.

All that apparently manifests in the waking or dream is made of the formless stuff, thus the diversity has no value when one becomes aware of the stuff from which the diversity has arisen and where it subsides.  The diversity rises from the consciousness and subsides back as consciousness. Thus the source of the diversity is the consciousness which is the innermost  self. On the standpoint of the true self the diversity is mere illusion. Thus the individual experiences happening within the waking or dream are mere mirage.

The search for the source, which is appearing as many, the consciousness is appearing as waking or dream(duality) and disappearing as deep sleep (non duality) . Therefore ,there is a need to view and judge on the base of the formless soul, the innermost self  to realize the fact that , the diversity is mere mirage.

Consciously becoming aware of itself  in the midst of the diversity (waking) is Self Realization.

When one is searching for truth he is not aware of the fact that, he is searching for the truth within the false experience with his the false identity.  There is no I, me or you or us, no seeker, no enlightenment, no disciple and no guru, no teaching, when one becomes aware of the fact that, the true self is not ‘I’ but the formless  soul, which is in the form of consciousness. From ultimate standpoint:-  there is no birth, life and death, no purpose of life, and nothing that has to be achieved when one realizes and becomes aware of the fact that, his physical identity and his experience of the world are mere illusion.

All that appeared as three states or illusion is mere mirage created out of consciousness. Soul is the innermost self and also it is the source of the mind from where it rises and subsides as  universe (waking or dream). All that apparently manifests in the illusion creates ignorance. And ignorance creates separation. This separation is the cause of duality, which cause division within the consciousness.  Man and his world, his belief of god, the search for truth is part of the illusion. The ignorance makes one appearing as two. Absent of ignorance absent of duality. Whatever prevails without duality is non dual reality.

All past, present and future are reality in ignorance. Absent of ignorance absent of diversity or illusion. The wisdom brings unity in diversity. Destiny is part of the illusion, because birth, life and death itself is illusion.

All the happenings are part of the illusion.  Seeker has to discover the source.  The source is the soul or consciousness ,which is uncaused, unchanging, formless and non-dual.

The religious thinker cannot think beyond their belief system.

Questioner P: The problem of duality and its ending cannot be understood unless we go into the nature of the thinker and thought. Can we discuss this?

Krishnamurti: How do the Hindu thinkers, the Advaita philosophers deal with this problem?
--K, New Delhi, December 25, 1970
E: I don't know, let's ask Santtosh.

SK:--Dear E,
The thinker and the thought are present only in duality. There is neither thinker, nor the thought in reality.  Thus the nature of the thinker and thought is formless and non dual, because both are created out of the same stuff, which is formless and non dual.

The duality [waking/dream] becomes non-duality [deep sleep]. We are unconscious about it, because we view and judge on the base of physical entity which present only in duality.   The dream entity is not the waking entity, because we call the whole dream as false hood when the waking takes place.

The dream and waking experience has to be considered as duality, because the duality is present only in waking or dream and  duality is absent in deep sleep.   Since we limit the mind/’I’ to the physical entity, we become ignorant of the true self and we experience duality as reality.

The mind/’I’ is not limited to the physical entity alone but to the whole experience of waking or dream. If mind/’I’ is present then the waking or dream [duality] is present. Absent of mind /’I’ absent of duality.  Thus mind/’I’, which appears as waking and dream is unreal. And the formless knower of the appearance and disappearance of the mind is real, permanent and eternal.  This has to be grasped mentally.

The religious thinker cannot think beyond their belief system. Therefore, the Hindu or any other religious thinkers cannot cross the threshold of duality. Advaita[non-duality] and Davaita[duality] is the nature of the self/soul. When the soul/ self is in waking/dream it is Davaita[duality] and when the soul/self is in its formless non-dual nature it is Advaita[non-duality]
The Advaith philosophy is based on the scriptures and religion and god is not the means to self knowledge. Because the scriptures it self declare that:

 Katha Upanishad:
This Ataman cannot be attained by the study of the Vedas, or by intelligence, or by much hearing of sacred books. It is attained by him alone whom It chooses. To such a one Ataman reveals Its own form. [Katha Upanishad Ch-II -23-P-20]

This Ataman cannot be attained through study of the Vedas, nor through intelligence, nor through much learning. He who chooses Ataman—by him alone is Ataman attained. It is Ataman that reveals to the seeker Its true nature. [    3 –page-70 Mundaka Upanishad  Upanishads by Nikilanada]

Second-hand knowledge of the self gathered from books or gurus can never emancipate a man until its truth is rightly investigated and applied; only direct realisation will do that. Realise yourself, turning the mind inward.Tripura Rahasya, 18: 89

Self-knowledge cannot be attained by study of the Vedas and intellectual understanding or by bookish knowledge.  Therefore there is no use of studying the Vedas and other scriptures in order to acquire the non-dual wisdom.  That is why Buddha rejected the scriptures, and even Sri, Sankara indicated that, the truth lies beyond religion, concept of god and scriptures.

For the same reason Raman Maharshi said fortunate are the one who do not lose themselves in the labyrinths of philosophy. Bhagwan says: Take Vedanta, for instance: it speaks of 15 pranas the names and functions of it   which the student is asked to commit memory. Will it not be sufficient if he thought only one prana does the whole work of maintaining the body? Again the antakaran is said to think, to desire, to will, to reason etc. Why all these details? Has anyone seen antakarana, or all these pranas? Do they really exist? They are conceptual divisions invented by teachers of philosophy by their excessive analysis. Where do all these concepts end? Why should confusion created and then explained away? Fortunate is the man who does not lose him self in the labyrinths of philosophy, but goes straight to the source from which they all arise. (GURU RAMANA .By S.S Cohen -vii Danger of philosophy-Page -58-59)

Raman Maharishi further explains [in page 111/112- practical guide to know your self]:-

Q: D: Is it not necessary to study the Vedas or at least Prastnatraya[Bagvad gita.Dasoponishad and Brahma Sutra all with commentaries] to ensure firm reazation?
A: Bhagvan: - No. Do you need all that to see yourself? All that is intellectual wealth, useful in explain doubts and difficulties if others rise them if you yourself encounter them in course of thinking. But to attain realization, all that is not necessary. You want fresh water to drink, but you do not require all the water of the river Ganges to quench your quest.
Therefore, the seekers of truth need not lose themselves in the labyrinths of philosophy, but go straight to the source from which they all arise. Truth pursuit is an inner journey without the physical baggage.

Consciousness is thus beyond the known and the unknown.

From the standpoint of the waking entity within the waking world , one  says that its thoughts are transient and illusory; from the standpoint of ultimate result when he  seeks the essence of the objective world he  has to resolve it into the Oneness.

Is this mind also illusory, although longer lasting than individual thoughts? To ask such a question is to think about the mind i.e. to set it up as an object, to remain in the world of duality. Hence one  cannot get a correct answer about it--only a thought. The man  as knower cannot be known by thought; only by non-thinking, by silence, questionless.

The meaning of consciousness has not been found. So how can one know that divine Consciousness is infinite? When one is conscious he sees a thing, a second thing. The latter is a finite idea; where is the infinity of it?

Consciousness is thus beyond the known and the unknown. Nothing can come near this consciousness.  The Gnani knows that the universe is only consciousness, after all, but this is the final position.

Bondage is something which one has  imagined. Hence if one wishes to force himself from it, he needs only free his-self from his imagination.

Even the highest thought of consciousness must disappear in deep sleep. Thought is changing and unreal. It passes away like dreams. It is impossible to eliminate thought entirely in the waking experience. No one has ever succeeded in doing so. If he does he will at once fall asleep.  It is impossible to see any differences or distinctions in the witness.

The nature of consciousness is always wisdom, knowing, whether in death or life, sleep or waking. But to understand this knowledge is hard because the world-objects worry one. So one has to get rid of this worry which prevents his insight, he must analyse the mind, to realize the ultimate truth.

From the standpoint of worldly communication through words one strives to know ultimate truth. But from the highest standpoint words can only be applied to an object. When one say 'I do not know the ultimate truth, there must be something in him which knows him do not know, a Witness, and which thus contradicts him.

The consciousness in me, the consciousness in him, the consciousness in someone else, are all one and the same; not separate from each other. Nobody has ever seen more than one consciousness.

The consciousness can be realized wherever one is, whereas if he goes to mountains in search of ultimate truth he finds only universe. It is within the mind [universe] rather than without.

He who knows the witness is consciousness, he remains satisfied. Not he who is concerned with universe. Birth, life and death are part of the illusory universe. Birth, life and death are happening within the illusory universe, the universe disappears as deep sleep. Birth, life, death and universe are an idea exists in waking and dream states only.  Without the consciousness they cease to exist as real.  The consciousness can exist with our without the waking or dream. The witness which sees the three states is consciousness is immortal.

True Nature of the Self and Self-Knowledge

True Nature of the Self and Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana

Consciousness is the only one, true existence beyond all thoughts, consciousness is the knower, the witness, the truth, the indivisible, and there is no doubt whatsoever that, the universe is within the self, which is consciousness. Ignorance is the cause of the universe. without ignorance the universe ceases to exist as reality.

the soul is the innermost self. Soul, the innermost self is in the form of formless consciousness. consciousness  is one and does not have any parts.  The body is not the self and the body is divisible in to various organs, by considering the body as self , one  is in  ignorance, by  thinking that these two are one.

The problem arises because everyone identifies themselves with their body with the name as self within the world, which appear as waking experience but they are unaware of the fact that, the waking experience is perishable.

A Gnani is always aware of the fact that,  the true self is not the form but formless consciousness and  the body and the world are mere mirage created out of consciousness, thus they are illusory in their nature. By limiting the consciousness to the waking entity alone is the cause of ignorance, because the consciousness pervades all the three states as their formless substance and witness.

The very purpose of pursuit of truth is to break this illusion of experience of birth, life and death and form, time and space by constant drawing attention to the formless substance and witness of the three states by providing seekers of truth with the path which would enable them to be free of experiencing the illusory duality as reality.

For Gnani the “self” shines without the form, name and experience of the universe, because he is fully aware of the fact that, his body, name and his experience of the universe are mere mirage created out of consciousness therefore he treats his body, name and his experience of the universe to be consciousness. Thus for a Gnani consciousness alone is real and any second thing other than consciousness is mere illusion.

The consciousness is the formless substance and exists within the universe or mind. The universe or mind is an object to the formless subject. Thus holding the object as reality without being aware of the formless subject, which is consciousness is cause of the ignorance.

The soul or self is in the form of consciousness and the mind or universe is mere mirage created out of consciousness.   Holding the mirage as reality and judging on the base of the body as self and thinking that these two are one is cause of the ignorance.

Consciousness is sentient, mind, which is in the form of universe, is insentient. Therefore all the contents of the universe are insentient. Thus holding the insentient as sentient is cause of ignorance.

Consciousness is eternal and ever existent, Mind, which is in the form of universe, is transient and nonexistent, it is due to self - ignorance, the duality is experienced as reality.  Only through self-awareness, the self becomes aware of its formless non-dual nature.  Thus it is the self that has to become aware of itself by realizing the fact that the mind or universe is mere mirage.  Thus it is the self that has to become aware of the fact that, it is not the waking entity, which perceives the world to realize the waking experience is mere mirage in the midst of waking experience.

The ignorant thinks that, the self is the body, and perceives the world without being aware of the fact that, his body, ego and universe are mere illusory experience created out of consciousness. Thus trying to judge the truth on the false entity within the false experience is erroneous. Until one makes sure of the true self, it is erroneous to judge and conclude the ultimate truth on mere speculation and assumption.  Thus one has to make sure of the fact that   the true self is neither the waking entity nor the dream entity but the formless knower of the three states, which comes and goes.

A Gnani say that the true knowledge is that, “Self” is definitely neither the waking entity nor the dream entity because the waking and dream both are illusory.  The true self is   consciousness and its nature is formless, non-dual peace, and equanimity. Consciousness is    the existence and knowledge.

Illusion’s "concealing power" merely means that when one looks at an ice block he thinks only of the ice block. But a Gnani will think of the substance of the ice block too.   That is a wise man has the knowledge of the substance plus of the ice block. Similarly a Gnani has the knowledge of the universe and its formless substance also. The consciousness is concealed because of ignorance because as a man one is not aware of the fact that, his body and the world are mere mirage created out of consciousness. When one becomes aware of the mirage then there is no body and no universe there is only the formless consciousness, which is the true self.

One has to get firm conviction that, the Self is definitely not the waking entity which is an illusion but self is without change, without any form, without any blemish and without any decay, without   disease, beyond all comprehension, beyond any change and consciousness is all pervading.

Self is definitely not the waking entity within the waking experience    which is an illusion but self is without properties and without any activity, self is permanent, forever free and imperishable.

The self is not ‘I’ which an illusion is, but the self is the formless knower or witness of the ‘I’ ,which is the mind and mind is in the form of universe and universe appears as waking or dream.  The consciousness is without moment and limits, it is pure.  It is ageless   because it is formless, birth less and deathless.

A Gnani has the firm conviction that,   all the three states are an object to the formless subject.  And the three states are but transient experience.  He identifies self with the Formless Witness, he is unaffected by the individual experiences happening within the waking or dream because he knows that self, the soul, can never be lost or lose anything in itself. Thus noting is lost or gained because everything is consciousness therefore Gnani sees only consciousness in everything and everywhere in the experience of diversity, thus for him no second thing exists other than consciousness.

Knowing the three states as a part of self, which is consciousness, he no longer considers it as an object such distinction exists only when inquiring. The ignorant man imagines he is related to objects, imagines there is causal relation with them and then imagines his sufferings because of their transiency. He foolishly believes that anything can go away from his self, because he separates his-self from them.

Unity is here and now, always has been and always will be. so long as one is  ignorant of this truth, he will  not see unity only he  sees diversity.

The consciousness is the true self and non-duality is pure nature of the consciousness. To capture the essence of non-dual reality, where witness and the witnessed are identical, it is only pure consciousness that by which its very nature is self-revealing and self-knowing.

True nature of the self is “without the three states”. It is the absence three states and presence of fullness of consciousness in its true form which allows for the clear recognition of the Self.

Consciousness is the true self and it is the Knower and the Known, the Seer and the Seen, without any duality.  Self, being one without a second, is always self-knowing. There is no “other” for it to know. That is why it is refer to the Self as the natural. The reference to natural implies the non-dual nature of the Self.

While deep sleep is a state of complete unconsciousness.  The true state is the state of full and complete consciousness. Deep sleep is still the state of ignorance. And a true state of consciousness is the state of self-awareness. In a very real and true sense the true state of the consciousness is the state of “deep awake”. The self is fully asleep to the world of perceptions and fully awake in its true nature, which is non-dual consciousness.

The true nature   of consciousness cannot be understood without self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana. But it is not impossible to understand it. People who speak about true nature of the self without the being aware of the fact that self is not physical can only speculate about its nature. Because such people are confused about nature of the self, their statements create confusion for others.

The three states can continue to exist and function after acquiring self-knowledge. But for Gnani all the three states are unrelated, because he has become one with the witnessing consciousness.

After Self-Realization, the duality is seen as existing but not separate from the Self. The Self knows itself even though the duality still exists.  The duality exists as a condition that rises from the Self and then is absorbed back into it. It is due to the presence of the duality, (until it disappears by death), that Knowledge of the Self can be passed on by the Realized beings to others who seek such knowledge.

People see God is different from them; they fear him similar to a tiger fearing its own shadow in the well

People see God is different from them; they fear him similar to a tiger fearing its own shadow in the well. The ignorant thinks the birth, life, death and the universe as reality because he is unaware of the fact that the universe is reality within the waking experience but the waking experience is mere illusion from the ultimate standpoint.

Since people have the inherited conditioning of believing the birth, life, death and the world as reality they are unaware of the fact that their human experience within the universe is mere mirage created out of consciousness.

The ignorance of the true self makes them to accept the false theories based on the false self  and people accept  whatever theory suits their mind set and keep manipulating their false life within the false experience.

Some are intoxicated with theory of karma; some are with the theory of cause and effect, some with love alone, some with humanism, some with service, and some with rituals, worship, some with glorifying and surrendering to the guru, some with their logical and intellectual conclusions, some with their orthodoxy and some with their Yogic Samadhi. But all these are biggest hindrance not qualification to acquire non dual wisdom.   It is waste of time to convince these people because they have already have accepted something else as truth. Thus they will not have any urge to know the ultimate truth.   Therefore, it is no use discussing with such crowd and it is better avoid such mind sets if one seriously seeking truth.

In the universe we find sun, moon, planets, sky, ocean, Stars, Mountains and all living creatures and people. None of these can exist independently.   They co-exist. They appear together and disappear together.  Because everyone has the firm conviction that he is an individual separate from the world and world existed prior to him and he is born in it later on. Because of this conviction, he becomes ignorant of the reality of his true existence.  Thus he perceives the world as a person. That is he has accepted the self as physical and observes the world.

To the Gnani, birth, life and death, is a mere mirage, because he is fully aware of the fact that, all the three states are mere illusion. All the three states they appear and disappear in succession. The witness of the three states is neither the body nor the ‘I’. Thus the witness is apart from the body and ‘I’.

When one is “awake,” he incessantly thinks, and when he goes to sleep and dream, he does not think any the lesser. But when he  pass from dreamful to dreamless sleep, his  thoughts cease and he enjoy undisturbed peace, till he  wakes again and resume his  thinking and with it his  restless, peace-less state. But all these are happening within the three states and he is aware of the experiences only in the waking experience.

Birth, life and death are part of the waking experience. The waking experience is mind, because when the mind exists, then only the duality prevails. Absent of mind absent of duality. Therefore waking or dream or mind or duality is one and the same thing.

People think life is miserable because they are not aware of the fact that ‘I’ is not the true self and all the three states are unreal on the standpoint of the formless soul or consciousness, which is the innermost  self.

Waking  or dream consist of nothing but experience. In deep sleep the waking and dream disappears and the experience -Free State prevails.  But soon experience appears again in the dream  or astral or vision and continues till a full “waking” takes place in a new body, after another dreamless lull. This daily cycle of waking and sleeping is a miniature of the cycle of birth, life and death.

Man and the universe are part of the illusion, which exists as waking or dream. The substance of the waking and dream or deep sleep is Atman or consciousness from which these three states arise. To transcend birth, life and death one has to transcend the three states and abide in the eternal substance which is the true self.

The terrible fear of death is absent only in deep sleep.  The fear seize only in deep sleep. Fear is present only when sees his body and the world in waking or dream. But in dreamless sleep, or when one is under Anastasia.  Fear haunts one only when one is fully “awake” and perceive the world, including his body. If one becomes aware of the true self and learns to view and judge the worldview on the standpoint of the true self, the fear becomes part of the mirage. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the three states and become aware of the fact that, the true self, which witnesses the three states, is apart from the three states.

If one traces this fear to the object, the loss of which gives rise to it, he will find that that object exists within the waking or dream which exists in the form of the mind.

The attractive world and the senses that are touch, taste sights, sounds, smells, etc are within the waking or dream or duality.

People would be too glad to be rid of worldly life and all the problems and inconvenience it creates for them if continued awareness were vouchsafed to them. It is the awareness, the consciousness, and not the body, he fears to lose. Everyone loves existence because it is eternal awareness, which is their own Self.

The seeker of truth has to hold on to the pure awareness right now, while in the body and be free from all fear which is created out illusion.

People want to know about rebirths. Theosophy speaks of 50 to thousands-year intervals between death and rebirth. But all these are imaginations based on the false self(waking entity or ego) within the false experience(waking). There is no relation between the standard of measurements of one state of consciousness and another. All such measurements are hypothetical. It must be distinctly understood that it is not the soul that comes and goes, but the three states which appear and disappear. The three states are mere illusion on the standpoint of the formless witness, which is the  soul or consciousness, the innermost  self.

On plane of duality that is in the waking the waking world a waking body exists, in the dream, dream world a dream body exists. In dreamless sleep or in death, it remains wordless and bodiless therefore illusion less.

The Gnani, whose mind has already ceased to act, remains unaffected by birth, life death [duality]: it has dropped never to rise again as reality. The chain of illusions has snapped forever for him.

It is now clear that there is neither real birth, nor real death. It is the illusion that creates the sense of reality in duality. The sense of reality of the duality will prevail, till it is destroyed by Self-Realization.

There are no different forms of consciousness, and there is nothing else except the consciousness, so how can there be difference between soul [consciousness] and the mind [universe].

The universe one sees, is consciousness, and the difference between consciousness which pervades, and the universe in which it is said to be pervading, in nonexistent and the difference is a result of an illusion. The illusion exists as reality, because man is unaware of the fact that he and his experience of the world are within the illusion.

There are no different forms of consciousness, and there is nothing else except the consciousness, so how can there be difference between soul (consciousness)  and the mind (universe).

The manifoldness of consciousness is mere mirage these differences are seen.  The ignorant who are cheated by illusion think that, their experience of birth life, death and world are reality because they are unaware of the fact that, the three states are mere illusion created out of consciousness on the ultimate standpoint.

The source of the mind is the soul. Mind, which is in the form of universe, is erupted from the soul, which is in the form of consciousness.  So the universe or mind should be considered as consciousness, which is ultimate reality.

The action and activities are mere happening within the illusion. Thus, the birth, life, death and the world will prevail as reality for those who are not self-realized. Thus they are caught up in the cycle of birth, life and death. Thus the karma theory is reality for those who believe their body or ego as self.  Therefore they are no qualified for self-knowledge because they have accepted form (waking entity  or ego) as self, whereas the self is formless (soul or consciousness).  Love, Virtue, nonviolence, action and conducts are not the qualification for self –realization, but they are very essential and valuable tools for humanity to live in the practical world.

If one thinks the self is an individual then the individual travels from death to death. Thus the living in practical world is nothing to do with the ultimate truth. And both should not be mixed if one is seeking truth. The truth is nothing to do with the individual experiences of life, because from the ultimate stand point the birth, life, death and the world are mere illusion.   Thus if one wants realize the ultimate truth or Brahman he should not bring the individual experiences of the world in Atmaic discussion.

There is no such thing as the "I," one cannot live for himself, whether "one " is  an individual, a family, a community, a nation or a race.  It is not truth and therefore such separation will go, even though it will take a long time.

There is necessity of renouncing ignorance is born of an illusion, an erroneous belief in the reality of a separate "me": those who realize that consciousness is everywhere in everything are no longer separate from others and the universe.   One cannot really separate himself from universe because man and universe appear together and they disappear together.

Realizing the difference between the seen (waking or dream) and the formless witness or soul, when the soul gets disunited from `seen (waking or dream)' and established in identity with itself, which is the supreme Spirit(consciousness), one is said to have known liberation from duality.

While dreaming one is being reminded his waking state, he comes to recognize the dream, therefore, he wake up. Immediately he realizes that waking is the only means of escape from the woes of the dream state.

Even so the seeker of truth following the path of self-Knowledge, while perceiving the difference between the Seen or witnessed  (waking or dream) and the Formless Witness (soul or consciousness), comes to realize the apparent connection with the Seen or witnessed was due to mistaken identity.

The seeker is able to re-establish the real connection and recognizes real identity (soul or consciousness). – The Truth, Consciousness and Bliss solidified. Such a seeker is said to have come to know his /her liberation from duality. The moment this truth is realized, the entire realm of objective reality becomes unreality and ignorance vanishes  and Truth -Realization takes place immediately.

The Unconsciousness can only be a consciousness without objects; otherwise it has no meaning

The Unconsciousness can only be a consciousness without objects; otherwise it has no meaning. Therefore it is really and somehow consciousness.  Through study of the mind one gradually becomes aware “The Unconscious" which is at the back of it all, is the soul.

One has yet to learn that we cannot look into the mind of another nor into that of animals. Hence those scientists who describe how ants think, for instance, are merely drawing inferences, not ascertaining proved facts.

That which one  know best in the waking experience, that which is nearest to his , that of which he  can never be free, its  existence is supremely certain, is his  consciousness.

One may doubt anything else but he directly perceives his-self. Hence one has to begin the study of the truth with the study of consciousness, not, as is mistakenly done by theologians, metaphysicians, with the supposed Absolute.

All gold ornaments are made of this same single material, so to explain the nature of the unknown soul, one has to start with something known and familiar, viz. consciousness, which he has  in the three states, and proceed step by step from that onwards.

One knows his -self (soul or consciousness), it is directly perceived, and thinking implies a thinking capacity, i.e. a thinker. This self (soul) is his consciousness. After showing that this consciousness, this self (soul), is ultimate reality, and everything else is of the same nature which should enable one henceforth to understand all else also is consciousness. Everyone has and knows this consciousness; therefore it is a universal datum. It is something which everybody can grasp.

Mind and its substance, Mind and as whole, are two different things has to be investigated. Mind does not depend on mere size of the physical brain. The elephant has the largest animal brain, yet it is no more intelligent than man, who has a much smaller brain.

If, as some think, the interaction of material brain atoms produces mind as a by-product, the reply for this is that one cannot know this unless someone had seen it happen. However, nobody has yet seen it. This theory is based on mere speculation.

One knows only mind is limited to his physical activity, but the truth is the whole physical existence, which is full of action or inaction is mind.  If one limits the mind to his physical entity, he will never be able to move towards ultimate understanding.  Mind appears as waking and dream. Man and his world are within the waking or dream.  Thus, the mind is the whole physical existence.  Thus, one has to consider the mind as whole physical existence. By considering the mind as physical existence, the waking and dream also are considered as mind.

What is mind? and What it does and by what it is capable of doing? No one knows it in itself. Philosophers and intellectuals  who regard mind as only a power or as an activity do not really say,  what it is  when appearing to define it, even though they use a million words.  Their study is correct up to a certain level, but they have not gone very deep verifying the facts.

One may think of the mind as he likes, but he gets only a thought, i.e. he gets words, more words. He do not get mind itself. Philosophers go on spinning yarns about the mind, but have never seen it. Their words are only imaginations.  How can one see the mind when philosophers and their experience of the world exist within the mind?  When the mind disappears they and their experience of the world also disappear.  Therefore, deeper inquiry, analysis and reasoning is required to analyze mind.  Then only it is possible to move forward in pursuit of truth.

Punditry is not philosophy. Much of what they say may be true but true only as thoughts, but they have to inquire what a thought is; and then they have to go beyond it. What about the witness, which witnesses all this three states, which comes and goes.  No philosopher has even been able to define the meaning of 'mind' and 'consciousness'.

One does not know the dimensions of the mind. All the form time, space is within mind only, not outside of it.  One as an individual can imagine anything within the mind.

The terms "super-consciousness" "overmind" etc. belong to irrational mysticism. No one can measure awareness which is consciousness and say where it stops, therefore mind is called limitless; hence to talk of something beyond it is sheer imagination. One has to appeal only to the facts not imagination.

People who talk of brain-consciousness are talking emptily. One does not know what it is, nor what “brainless consciousness” is. One is aware of only consciousness. Science does not know the true relation between consciousness and brain, if any.

One knows only 'mental states. Only three final mental states that is, waking, dream and deep sleep--which come and go.

Consciousness is the essence of all the three states.

Consciousness is the essence of all the three states.  He, who takes this waking or dream to the Region beyond physicality and abides there; to him alone the mystery of the three states is revealed and he becomes aware of the fact that, birth, life, death and universe  are the illusory play of the consciousness. Consciousness pervades in everything and everywhere in illusion because the illusion is created out of consciousness, sustained by consciousness and finally dissolves as consciousness.

In waking or dream the universe comes: in deep sleep   the waking or dream   goes. In waking or dream is one born: in waking or dream one dies.

In waking or dream one lives, in Waking or dream one suffers. In Waking or dream one earns, in Waking or dream one enjoys. In Waking or dream is one truthful or lies like a liar. In Waking or dream one reflects on Virtue and Sin. In Waking or dream do one lands in Heaven and Hell. In Waking or dream is one happy, in Waking or dream in sorrow. In Waking or dream does one sin, in Waking or dream wash it off. In Waking or dream does one lose the distinctions of caste and kind. In Waking or dream is one wise; in Waking or dream is one unwise.

In Waking one has an urge to know the truth. In Waking one is in the illusion; in Waking is one shadowed by Doubts and confusion, in Waking one thinks of reincarnation and rebirth.  In waking one thinks that he is born in this world and world existed prior to him. In waking one is in ignorance of the true self, which is consciousness. If one spots out the true self within the three states, one realizes the way to freedom.

One is in action in Waking or dream. In Waking or dream one is bound by form, time and space. Waking or dream is in the form of mind. Mind appears and disappears as waking or dream.  If there is no mind then there is no waking or dream. Waking or dream is born out of ignorance of the true self. Getting rid of the ignorance through wisdom is   the way to the release. In Waking or dream, one follows the Writ of habit. Waking or dream is a chronic malady; but within it also is its remedy.

When the mind is stills through wisdom, one destroys the sense of duality. The egocentricity is the cause of experiencing the illusion is reality.

Consciousness is the true Self. Consciousness is in this universe but it is not of this universe. It is in this universe, but not of this universe means it is the formless substance and witness of the universe, which is in the form of the mind (I). The mind (I)appears as waking or dream and disappears as deep sleep. The self who is in the form of consciousness is the formless knower of the mind, which comes and goes.   Consciousness is above; it is transcendental to all the miseries, which are inevitable in this illusory universe.  Therefore, there is a need to realize the fact that, the mind, which is in the form of universe is mere mirage created out consciousness.   Thus, the birth, life, death and world are mere mirage on the stand point of the consciousness, which is the true self. Only on the base of physical self the universe is reality.  Thus the Self is within the universe but it is without the universe.

Only a Gnani alone can actually create the awareness of the truth. He can enliven and illuminate others to get out of this ignorance by being transcendental to the illusory birth, life, death and the universe. Gnani tries to guide the seekers get rid of the inherited ignorance and, rise above the waking or dream-centric concepts, be in this universe, but not of this universe, be in tune with the consciousness, which is his  true identity and the ultimate truth.
This material existence is mere mirage. It is like a wax in the candle it will burn away.  All attempts for freedom is possible only when one is ready to overcome the ignorance. To overcome the ignorance is possible only when one realizes the birth, life, death and the world are mere illusion created out of consciousness.  The consciousness is ultimate truth. And the one who knows this truth knows the knower (soul or consciousness) is free from the known (mind or universe).

Through Self-knowledge, all of one’s waking or dream-centric successes and all of his credible accomplishments within the duality are ultimately evaporated and consciousness alone will prevail as non-dual existence.
