As a man one is ignorant of the true self.

As a man one is ignorant of the true self. ! Why does one assert the blissful, ever-existent consciousness, which is within the three states as its formless clay and is evidently apart from it as its formless witness? The three states are absolutely non-existent in the realm of the true self which is consciousness.

Seeker of truth has to know, with the help inquiry, analysis and reasoning on the true base, the true Self, which is different from the three states, not a void but the very form of existence, and very difficult for persons who view and judge the worldview on the base of ‘ego.

The true self is not “I” /ego/mind is but consciousness, whereas the gross bodies are many. So how can this body be true self, when the body and its experience of the world exist only within the mind [waking/dream]?

True self which is consciousness is the subject of perception whereas the ego, body and the world is the object. This is learnt from the fact that when one speaks of the body, ego he says, “This is mine.” So how can this body and ego be the self?

It is a fact of direct experience of the true self, which is consciousness, is without any change, whereas the mind [waking/dream] is always undergoing changes. So how can this body be self, which is present only within the waking/dream?

Gnanis have ascertained the real nature of the true self through inquiry, analysis and reasoning on the true base, “There is nothing higher than consciousness the true self,” So how can this body be the self, when the body is present only within the mind [waking/dream]?
All the three states is verily the consciousness” because they are created out of consciousness. So how can this body be self, when the body exists only within mind [waking/dream]?

The consciousness is completely unattached” from the three states, because true self is not an entity or identity within the three states. How can this body be the self, when the body exists only within the waking/dream?

No division in consciousness is admissible at any time as it is always one and the same

No division in consciousness is admissible at any time as it is always one and the same. Even the individuality of the ‘I’ must be known as false, like the delusion of a snake in a rope.
As through the ignorance of the real nature of the rope the very rope appears in an instant as a snake, so also does consciousness appears in the form of the mind [waking/dream] without undergoing any change.
There exists no other material cause of this waking/dream except consciousness. Hence these three states are but consciousness and nothing else.
All the three states is consciousness, because they arisen from consciousness, and sustained by consciousness, and finally dissolves as consciousness. The idea of the pervaded and the pervading is illusory. When this supreme truth being realized, then there is no room for any distinction between the cause and the effect.
Certainly there is no manifoldness in consciousness. The non-dual cause being an established fact, how could the mind [waking/dream] be different from consciousness, when they are created out of consciousness?

The consciousness alone is the substratum of all varieties of names, forms and actions within the mind

The person who”, being deceived by illusion, “sees variety in this consciousness, and believes birth, life and death as reality.

Inasmuch as all beings are born of consciousness, because they exist only within the mind [waking/dream], and mind [waking/dream] is created out of consciousness the true self, they must be understood to be verily consciousness.

The consciousness alone is the substratum of all varieties of names, forms and actions within the mind [waking/dream].

Just as an ice block has the nature of water, so also the three states are born of consciousness has always the nature of consciousness.

Fear is attributed to the ignorant one who rests after making even the slightest distinction between the ‘mind’ and the consciousness.

When mind/ duality appears through ignorance, then one sees another

When mind/ duality appears through ignorance, then one sees another; but when everything becomes identified with the consciousness, one does not perceive another even in the least in the midst of duality, because he is fully aware of the fact that the whole experience of diversity is created out of consciousness.

In that state when one realizes all as identified with the consciousness, there arises neither delusion nor sorrow, in consequence of the absence of duality. Consciousness, which is the Self of all, is verily consciousness.

This waking experience, though an object of our daily experience and serving all practical purposes, is, like the dream, of the nature of non-existence, inasmuch as it is contradicted the next moment.

The dream experience is unreal in waking, whereas the waking experience is absent in dream. Both, however, are non-existent in deep sleep which, again, is not experienced in either.
Thus all the three states are unreal; but their witness the reality behind them is, beyond all attributes, eternal, one, and is Consciousness itself.

Consciousness , though ever pure to a Gnani, always appears to be impure to an ignorant one

People perform all their actions in and through conciousness, but on account of ignorance they are not aware of that, just as through ignorance persons do not know that snow and clouds are nothing but water.

Just as there ever exist the relation of cause and effect between water and a snow, so does the same relation exist between consciousness  and the mind[ waking/dream]; this has been established here on the strength of inquiry, analysis and reasoning.

Just as (the consciousness of) water forces itself upon our mind while thinking of a snow, so also does the idea of consciousness  flash on one  while contemplating on the mind[waking/dream].

Consciousness , though ever pure to a Gnani, always appears to be impure to an ignorant one, just as a rope always appears in two different ways to a knowing person and an ignorant one.

Just as a snow is all water, so also is the waking/dream all consciousness/Soul. The division, therefore, into the Self and non-Self is made by the ignorant to no purpose. Just a nacre to be a piece of silver, so is the consciousness  determined to be the body by an ignorant person.

All the actions of a man perish when he realizes consciousness as self, which pervades in everything and everywhere in the three states.

The body and the world are being within the mind[ waking/dream] and therefore unreal, how could karma exist?

All the actions of a man perish when he realizes consciousness as self, which pervades in everything and everywhere in the three states. Thus, the concept of karma is reality only within the illusion.

If the ignorant still arbitrarily maintain this, they will not only involve themselves into two absurdities but will also run the risk of forgoing the reasoned conclusion. So one should accept those reason alone from which proceeds true knowledge.

The consciousness that is absolute existence and knowledge cannot be realized without constant practice. So, one seeking after self- knowledge should long reflect constantly upon nature of consciousness for the attainment of the nondual goal.

The abandonment of the illusory universe [mind] by realizing it as the all-conscious consciousness is the real renunciation, since it is of the nature of immediate liberation.

That which is well known as the origin and the support of the mind[waking/dream], which is immutable and in which the enlightened are completely merged , that alone is known as eternal soul, which is in the form of consciousness..

Converting the ordinary vision into one of knowledge one should view and judge the three states one the base of consciousness itself. That is the noblest vision, and not that which is viewed and judged on the physical eyes.

Seeker should verily see the cause in the effect, and then dismiss the effect altogether.

Through reason based on the soul, alone there arises in the Gnani  a state of awareness of consciousness, which is afterwards merges in itself.

Seeker should first look for the cause by the negative method and then find it by the positive method, as ever inherent in the effect.

Seeker should verily see the cause in the effect, and then dismiss the effect altogether. What then remains, the one himself becomes.

A seeker, who constantly reflects upon soul  with great assiduity and firm conviction, becomes that very thing.

The seeker of truth should always think with great care of the invisible, the visible, and everything else, as the true Self which is consciousness/soul  itself.

Having reduced the visible to the invisible, the seeker should think of the three states as one with consciousness . Then  alone will he abide in eternal felicity with mind full of consciousness and non-dual bliss.

Ultimate reality consciousness which is beyond speech alone remains

While thinking of an object the mind verily identifies itself with that, and while thinking of a void it really becomes blank, whereas by the thought of consciousness it attains to perfection. So seeker should constantly reflect on nature of consciousness by deeper thinking and reasoning to attain perfection.

Only those, in whom this consciousness being ever present grows into maturity, attain to the state of ever-existent consciousness; and not others who merely deal with words.

Also those persons who are only intelligent in discussing about consciousness but have no realization, and are very much attached to worldly pleasures, are in consequence of their ignorance. The aspirants after truth or consciousness should not remain a single moment without the thought of consciousness.

The nature of the cause inheres in the effect and not vice versa; so through reasoning it is found that in the absence of the effect, the cause, as such also disappears.

Then that ultimate reality consciousness which is beyond speech alone remains. This should be understood again and again verily through the illustration of water and the snow.

Many people are not even aware what is soul, which is in the form of consciousness

Many people are not even aware what is soul, which is in the form of consciousness; though knowing of it, many do not comprehend. Only few expound the knowledge of consciousness and very rare assimilate and realize it. It is all because of their inherited religious and social background and grooming.

There is a need to dismantle the inherited physical structure mentally to overcome the duality. The whole physical structure is built on the foundation of the ‘ego’. Since they think the ‘ego ’ as self, it becomes difficult to grasp and assimilate and realize the non dual truth.

The ‘mind ’, appears as waking/dream and disappears as deep sleep is impermanent, hence it is not the self. The formless knower of the ‘the three states is the true self. Since people think whatever is propagated by the guru/yogi as ultimate truth and blindly accept it as truth, without verifying the validity of their preaching. This blind acceptance becomes a big hindrance in pursuit of truth. If one is seeking truth, one has to verify the validity of any claim through inquiry, analysis and reasoning on the true base, and accept only un -contradictable truth.
Self-knowledge when taught by an unqualified person is not easily comprehended, because it is diversely regarded by disputants. But when it is taught by him who has become one with consciousness, there can remain no more doubt about It. Consciousness is subtler than the subtlest and not to be known through argument.

Self- Knowledge cannot be attained by reasoning based on the ‘ego/’ physical self. Consciousness becomes easy of comprehension, when taught by another. One has to attain self- Knowledge right now in this very life not in next world or next life.
Gnani, by means of concentration on the true Self, realizes that ancient, effulgent hidden and which dwells and pervades in everything and everywhere in all the three states as its formless substance and witness.

The consciousness is the true self. The knowing the true Self is not born; it does not die. It has not sprung from anything; nothing has sprung from It. Birthless, eternal, everlasting and ancient, it is not killed when the body is killed or when the world disappears. If the murderer thinks he kills and if the killed man thinks he is killed, neither of these apprehends aright. The consciousness kills not, nor is it killed.
Consciousness exists in smaller than the small, greater than the great, and is hidden in the three states as its formless substance and witness. A man who is free from viewing and judging the worldview on the base of ‘ego’ beholds the consciousness through tranquillity and becomes free from experiencing the duality as reality.
Gnani, having realized consciousness as dwelling within impermanent states is bodiless, pervades the three states as its formless substance and witness and permanent and eternal.
The true self is consciousness. Self-knowledge cannot be acquired by the study of the scriptures, or by intelligence, or by much hearing of sacred books. It is attained by him alone whom It chooses. To such a one consciousness reveals its own form.
He who has not rectified his reasoning base from the ‘ego’[form] base to soul[formless] base , who does not have the intense urge to know the non dual truth and who is not tranquil and subdued and whose mind is not receptive , cannot acquire Self-Knowledge . It is realized only through inquiry, analysis and reasoning on the true base.

That Karma which is done in a previous life which produces the present life is mere religious theory

That Karma which is done in a previous life which produces the present life is mere religious theory, because when ‘ego’ itself is not self, and the true self is birth less entity because it is formless. But such Karma theory has no value in the realm of truth, as self has no birth. The one which is born, lives and dies is the false entity within the false experience.

Just as the body and the world in a dream is superimposed and therefore illusory, so is also this body and the world in the waking is superimposed. The birth, life, death and world are part of the waking experience and waking is superimposed, and in the absence of waking, which contains the body and the world there is no room for karma at all.

The ignorance to be verily the material /cause) of the waking/dream just as water is of a cloud. If the ignorance is destroyed, how can the three states subsist?
Just as a person out of confusion perceives only the snake leaving aside the rope, so does an ignorant person experiences the world/dream within the waking without knowing their reality? The real nature of the rope being known, the appearance of the snake no longer persists; so the substratum being known, the waking no longer remains as real.

Just as water is described as an ice block, gold as an ornament, so is consciousness described as duality.

Just after the illusion has disappeared; the soul/self [consciousness] is no more deluded to see the duality as reality. A Gnani, no more see waking/dream in consciousness.

Just as water is described as an ice block, gold as an ornament, so is consciousness described as duality.

Just as blueness in the sky, water in the mirage, are but illusory, so is the waking/dream in consciousness. Just as a castle in the air, is illusory, so is the appearance of the three states in consciousness.

Just as it is water that appears as ripples and waves or again it is water that appears in the form of cloud so it is consciousness that appears as the waking/dream.

Just as it is water that appears under the name of a snow or it is threads that appear under the name of a cloth, so it is consciousness that appears under the name of the waking/dream. This consciousness is to be known by negating the names.

No division in consciousness, which is the true self, is admissible at any time as it is always one and the same

No division in consciousness, which is the true self, is admissible at any time as it is always one and the same. Even the individuality of the ‘ego’ must be known as false, like the delusion of a snake in a rope.

As through the ignorance of the real nature of the rope the very rope appears in an instant as a snake, so also does consciousness the true self appear in the form of the waking/dream without undergoing any change.

There exists no other material cause of this waking/dream except consciousness. Hence these three states are but consciousness and nothing else.

All the three states are consciousness, because they arisen from consciousness, and sustained by consciousness, and finally dissolves as consciousness. The idea of the pervaded and the pervading is illusory. When this supreme truth being realized, then there is no room for any distinction between the cause and the effect.

Certainly there is no manifoldness in consciousness. The non-dual cause being an established fact, how could the waking/dream be different from consciousness, when they are created out of consciousness?

The consciousness, which is the true self is self-illumined

The consciousness, which is the true self is self-illumined. So how can the body, which is inert (insentient) and illumined by an external agent be the consciousness, which is present only within the waking/dream?The consciousness [soul] the true self is apart from the three states and permanent, as it endures even after the death of the body and world within the waking/dream.

Even the subtle body consists of many parts and is unstable. It is also an object of perception, is changeable, limited and non-existent by nature. So how can this be the true self, when the body exists only within the waking/dream?
The immutable soul, the substratum of the ego, is thus different from these two bodies, and is the true self, the consciousness, the formless witness of the three states; and it is present in everything and everywhere in all the three states and yet transcends them all

Thus the enunciation of the difference between the soul and the body has (indirectly) asserted, indeed, after the manner of the inquiry, analysis and reasoning, the reality of the three states. The birth, life, death and the world are part of the duality [waking/dream]. The consciousness, which is the true self and it, is the formless witness of the birth, life, death and the world.
Thus the view that the body is the true self has been denounced by the enunciation of the difference between the soul and the body. The seeking mind has to grasp the truth, between the three states and the formless witness [true self].
