What is the difference between sleep and death?

Unless one has the knowledge of the true self, liberation can never be attained. Pilgrimage to sacred places, observance of austerities or giving wealth in charity studying of scriptures practicing yoga is not the means to self-knowledge.

What is self-knowledge?

How one has to acquire the self knowledge?

Self-knowledge is that knowledge, which not only imparts an intellectual insight of the existence but also conscious awareness of it. Such knowledge can come only to the aspirant only through inquiry and reasoning on the true base.

Goal of every seeker of truth is to realize the true self. The self is related to the experience of diversity, as its invisible substance and witness. When it is in experience of diversity it is in self forgetfulness and when it is in its formless true nature it is in self awareness. The experience of diversity is mere mirage on the standpoint of true self.

Self knowledge is meant to teach the world the eternal truth of the one behind the experience of diversity. F.P holds the key to unfold the mystery of one’s own existence, thus great mission of the serious seekers of truth lie in making themselves aware of the reality of their own existence.

The consciousness of a person within the experience of diversity or mind expresses itself through physical apparatus which is the seat of all human attributes. This individual consciousness makes a man think he is an individual separate from the world which causes duality and the duality causes ignorance of reality within the experience of diversity [I]. This separative consciousness is the cause of limiting the mind or ‘I’ to the physical entity. Limiting the mind [I] to the physical entity is the cause of experiencing the illusion as reality.

Experience the illusion as reality is the cause of experiencing the birth, life and death as reality. The birth, life and death are the cause of fear and suffering. Suffering is the cause of hope and desire to find remedies to the eternal happiness and peace. The quest for permanent eternal happiness and peace is the quest of the truth.

The whole experience of diversity is governed by the spirit or Atman which is the true self. The experience of diversity is like a spider caught in the web.  When the self becomes self-aware, then there is neither the web nor the spider.

Since man is conditioned to view and judge on the physical base he is subject to compulsion of subconscious. All the efforts of man are directed towards overcoming the fear and frustration. Yoga and religious activities give him the sense of overcoming this helplessness, but it is a temporary. Hence man seeks refreshment through the oblivion of deep sleep; it is the deep sleep that lifts the pressure of burden and bondage within the experience of duality or mind at least temporarily.

It is necessary to discuss the true nature of the deep sleep; in order to understand the nature and significance of true wakefulness. Man is physically awake but spiritually asleep. If the mind is really aware of its formless nondual true nature; there is no need to withdraw into self forgetfulness of sleep. Thus it is necessary to analyze the three states in order to overcome the experience of diversity which is mere mirage on the standpoint of the true self.

What is the difference between sleep and death?

Sleep is not the annihilation of consciousness but withdrawal into formless non-dual true nature of the self. Death is the self transcends back and remains in its formless non-dual true nature.  The wakefulness is not wakefulness of person within the experience of diversity, but becoming aware of the true self in the midst of the experience of diversity.  This is possible only when one has the full conviction that ‘I’ is not the self but ‘I’ is the whole experience of diversity which present as mind. The mind appears and diapers as waking and dream.  The invisible substance and witness of the ‘I’ which appears and disappears in succession is the true self. The invisible substance and witness of the ‘I’ is the spirit or Atman. On the standpoint of the Atman or spirit as self the experience of diversity is mere mirage.  F.P  blogs is thrown a new light on the secret of the three states which appear and disappear.

When one is in the experience of diversity he experiences the burden and bondage as an individual perceiving the world.  He experiences the birth, life and death, pain and pleasure as reality. But as an individual he is unable to observe the fact that they are happenings within the experincer of duality which is present as mind. The mind appears and disappears as waking and dream. Thus all the individual experiences are happenings within the experience of diversity or mind. Mind is mere mirage or illusion. Thus it become necessary to know what has this illusion in order to unfold the mystery of the mind.

Whatever one knows, believes, experiences of the world are within the scope of the mind not beyond.

From where does all the experience of diversity [mind or Waking or dream] come from?

It does not come from outside the self but from within the self. It is created sustains and witnessed by the self and dissolves in it. No one but the self knows about it because everything is created and sustained and witnessed by the self. Therefore the substance and witness of the experience of diversity is one in their essence. They exist only to the self which is Atman or spirit or consciousness.

The individual experiences within the Waking and dream is witnessed by the formless   consciousness true self. All the person and objects within the waking experience is as real as dream. Therefore the witness of the dream has to be traced to realize the fact that the waking is also a dream. The dream and waking is fully dependent on the invisible witness, without it the experience of diversity is impossible. Therefore the independent invisible entity has to be traced to realize the true fact of the existence.

The experience of diversity solely exist for the self and it comes from nowhere but within the self—it has been created out of self  and witnessed by the self.  What is called the Waking experience and the individual experiences within it, is mere mirage. All the persons and objects within the waking experience are mere mirage created and experienced out of single substance which is formless non-dual spirit or Atman. The Atman or formless  consciousness  is the true self. When Waking takes place, the dream becomes mirage. When wisdom dawns the waking becomes mirage. Therefore it is necessary to trace the witness of the mirage in order to overcome the mirage which everyone experiences it as reality.

In waking experience the dream becomes mere mirage. Similarly in dream the waking experience is non-existent. When wisdom dawns one becomes aware of the fact that the dream and waking both are mirage witnessed by the invisible substance which is the sprit or Atman. Therefore Atman is the true self because it is the substance and witness of the dream and waking experience. When the substance remains unconsciously in its true state it is called deep sleep. When it consciously remains in its true state in the midst of the experience of diversity, it is called wisdom.

Thus the Atman or spirit is the sole creator and sustainer and witness of the waking and dream experiences. All the people and objects and experiences contained in the experience of diversity is sole created by Atman or spirit, thus everything is Atman or spirit  nothing but Atman or spirit.  Therefore Atman or spirit is second to none. When wisdom dawns the ignorance which is mind which one thinks as reality disappears.

Three states experiences, being one of the most significant phenomena in the existence of the individual, must be thoroughly understood if the purpose is to unfold the mystery of one’s own existence.

Any attempt to give an explanation of the three states in purely physiological terms will be incomplete and misleading as well. Many people view and judge the worldview on the base of waking entity. All the three states have to be individually viewed and analyzed.

The waking and dream experiences appear and disappear as mind [I]. The  ‘I’ is present only when the mind is present. Mind is present only when the Waking or dream experiences are present. Therefore limiting the mind or ‘I’ to physical entity is the cause of the ignorance. Mind means the man including the world.  The ‘I’ has to be considered as mind and mind has to be considered as whole experience of the waking or dream.

The seeker has to make sure the fact that ,the ‘I’ which appears and disappears as waking or dream cannot be limited to physical entity but to the whole experience of diversity.

Many people consider the three states to be the experience of an individual but fail to observe that fact that one knows his individuality and knowledge of the three states within the waking experience. Whatever one sees, knows, believes and experiences of the world has to be within the Waking experience [mind]. Without the mind there is no experience. Without the experience there is no duality. Without the duality there is no illusion. Without the illusion it is non-dual reality.

Still other religious and yogic authorities regard the three states to be as individual experiences. Since they view and judge the worldview as an individual person perceiving the world within the Waking experience.  This is because they limit the ‘I’ to the physical entity, which is not the true identity. Limiting the ‘I’ to physical identity and viewing and judging is the cause of ignorance. The ignorance is the cause of illusion. Illusion is the cause of experiencing the duality as reality. If the ignorance vanishes the reality of the experience of duality vanishes.

Many teachers are limited by their own life experiences and what they have and what they have not worked within their own given ego’s. Many seekers expect what their masters who they trust tell them and much of the time the master they believe did the same thing and him-self never really knew for sure firsthand.

What is ‘I’? The ‘I’ disappears in deep sleep, so what is the use of being attached to it? It is illusory.

What is ‘I’? The ‘I’ disappears in deep sleep, so what is the use of being attached to it? It is illusory.

There is really no ‘I’. It dies in deep sleep. But the notion of its unreality will gradually grasped by the receptive seekers. Individuality is illusory.

One is ignorant of the fact that the ‘I’ ,which is present in the form of mind. Mind is present in the form of universe. Universe  comes and goes as waking or dream and has no permanent existence, is only a mirage after all.

Soul is the innermost self.  Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness. Soul or  consciousness which knows everything, that which sees. soul or consciousness alone remains after one gets rid of ignorance. soul is the witness or  seer. When Soul  remains  in its  formless and  non-dual true nature it is non-dual existence or Brahman.

There must be a perceiver which knows that all these are illusions. The experience of the diversity is on a substratum--mind. Imaginations are possible only in duality. Even when one say he exists he is he exists as a person in duality.

That, which becomes conscious of the experience of diversity, is the seer or witness, the soul or consciousness , the Knower.  No one has ever seen the soul , for it is never an object. Hence logic, inference, cannot be applied to it, because intellect, logic is for objective world and waking experience only, the state where one infers effects from causes. The greatest mistake is considering the duality as reality, to confuse the object with the subject. There is no proof that the seer is confined to waking or dream. It is universal.

If the knower also had been changing along with the changes, how could it ever have known of the changes? It is only that which is known which is changing, otherwise it could not have been known. Those who say the self is also changing are uttering words without meaning. How could one know whether anything is changing unless there were something which itself did not change and could thus note the changes?

One knows of no changes in the formless soul or consciousness; one knows only the changes in what is perceived by the soul. When one realize the nature of soul, the innermost  self, he knows the Real can never change, hence never die. Death is only in the region of the "seen or witnessed  or duality."

That of which one is aware and which is nearer to him is the Formless Witness. Yet no statement can be made about it. All words will concern ideas about it, i.e. seen (waking or dream) never the  soul, which is Formless Witness.

Without the individual self one could never think. Through such thinking he is able to prove the existence of  the formless soul, the innermost self, for the individual is finally identical with the soul or consciousness.

If the unchanging had also been changing, then the fact of change would never be perceptible to one. The Formless Witness never alters and is thus the true witness.

The Formless Witness is immortal, because one sees change always in seen or witnessed (three states). One never sees it in Formless Witness because he never sees Formless Witness. Hence one cannot ascribe mortality to soul (Formless Witness) as we can to seen (three states). He can only remain silent about it.

Everything of which one is aware is he is aware within the duality (waking or dream). As the ego is something of which one is aware is part of the duality (waking or dream).

Whatever one says about soul, it is only a thought or word, i.e. a seen (waking or dream). Reason when applied to seen (waking or dream) he can grasp it; but it can never grasp the soul( Formless Witness). Reason can tell you the Formless Witness is there, but it cannot grasp it. This is the limit of reason. But the soul( Formless Witness) is always there; it cannot be known, or understood because knowing implies a second thing. But in all acts of knowledge, the soul( Formless Witness) is there when you are thinking, you are therefore seeking soul or consciousness, the innermost self.  Hence soul  is known only in idealessness. It is impossible to be free from soul , for it is impossible for any thought to arise without it.

One must analyze himself and see that whenever there is it seen (waking or dream), there must be the Formless Witness which is aware of it. When he sees this, he knows the formless  soul. Hence soul and mind (Formless Witness(soul)  and  witnessed(three states))   analysis is so fundamental and so difficult.

People wrongly think that the ego or waking entity  as the Witness, even though the ego vanishing along with the waking or dream.

When one inquire and reasons deeply enough the ego disappears he finds there are no separate individuals at all, there is no variety of beings, all are really the undivided Atman.
