Adyathmic discussion-56

No hooks to hang our hats on! As we move from i to I - even I Am dissolves… there is just isness… no identity... not even I... as “I” implies another/exists only in ref to someone something else other than I - otherwise where the notion even of “I”? So its we “i’s” who intellectually know about “I”ness, who refer to it as “I” .But as That...it would not say “I”...surely...for where the notion of I when there is no other!

We need to go beyond the need to call this state something…even the word ‘no-self’ becomes a sort of self as it gives form to the formless and description to the descirptionless! No hooks to hang your hats on!

Imho I AM is derived from AOM (OM) - The universal sound that emanates as unawareness becomes aware and revels in pure beingness – it’s the frequency of this state of pure beingness/awareness! And which we in duality have translated as I AM! But more accurately A-o-m is a state/ frequency/vibration of pure beingness. Meditatively: Aom = A(h)…. The wonder of awareness! O (oooo) the ensuing bliss/delight! M (mmm) resting in this state of being! A state of witnessing rather than there being a witness! “Events and deeds happening but no doer there of…” not even I…

(I have posted a longer posting on this meditative understanding of OM…many months ago on my fb wall…! will dig it out and repost it here for those who may resonate!)

The word AUM has been chosen because it is a short easily remembered syllable. The separate sounds of the word are symbols, nothing more. The combination of these three letter sounds in the one word symbolizes the world's unity.

The three divisions of time--past present and future--are also symbolized. Moreover AUM contains three letters and Atman contains three states. Finally just as it requires four quarters to merge and make up a whole unity, so A, U, and M are three of these quarters.

A: When one think of himself as seeing the waking experience ; but when he thinks of the self apart from that self is Atman.
U: he regards his -self as being in the dream. This is a higher idea, because he knows that the universe is an object to the subject which is Ataman.

M: When one understands that through deep sleep he is able to measure all else, that all other things (and the sounds A and U symbolizing them) merge back into Deep sleep, are all found in it, and re-appear from it. This is a still higher degree.

Even if one takes any language he likes, he finds that A involves the opening of the mouth whereas M involves shutting it. Now all sound implies soundlessness, because it begins from that and ends with that. Hence the two always go together.

Similarly the knower and Known go together to form Brahman, are always present together although we do not usually recognize it. AUM= Turiya: This is not a state, as the ignorant Orthodoxy think.

This word includes all the three sounds, which have merged in it. So the waking merges in dream, the latter in sleep and all the three in AUM. The latter is a unity, nevertheless it contains a trinity. Thus when the word is made the subject of intelligent reflection, such meditation becomes a great help to attainment, as Advaitins says, for it thus becomes an examination of the whole of life.

Sounds imply names, names imply objects, objects imply whole world. "Au" is beginning of all sounds, "uM" is the end of all sounds, even other sound is included within them, i.e. within AUM.
Whatever may come in the future, whatever object existed in the past, whatever thing you can think of in the present--all these are included in the single word AUM, because all are named, hence are ideas, hence within the single mind.

The word is a mnemonic purposely invented to give men in one short syllable, in the smallest compass, a handy reminder that everything--this table, your neck-tie, that cow,--is of one and the same essential character. Every time any object is seen, you utter Aum and thus remember that it, and all other things, are the self. Every object in the external world is indicated by a name. Hence the phrase "the universe consists of names and forms.” All names are but words. As soon as a word is uttered, what does your mind do? A thought comes. Now all these words in every language, all these sounds, all these thoughts, are compressed in the one word Aum; which also enables all objects to be comprehended by the Mind as being ideas. Hence this word is unique. Nothing exists which is outside the scope of referential meaning AUM.

Aum therefore is the whole of existence, the universe. But why is this specific word Aum chosen for such high office? Take the first letter "AH". It is the sound phonetically uttered by the mouth when it first opens. "UM" is the sound it utters when at last it closes. Hence all sounds, without a single exception must becomprised between the opening and shutting of the lips, i.e. between "AH" and "UM" and as Brahman is silence, so ultimately the AUM disappears with the sounding of "UM" into silence, because the mouth must then shut. You have to use words to denote things, objects. You have to use letters to form words. The word AUM summarizes all other words. Finally even this word disappears when the sound of it goes. So the letting go of AUM is to make you drop the whole world and make you think of Brahman. Thus the mystery of AUM is wrapped in the meaning of words. Semantics aim at clarifying meanings but AUM ultimately shows you that all words are futile because they cannot express the ultimate nature of anything: Silence alone does this.

One cannot produce any sound without opening the mouth and the first sound he utters while opening the mouth is A. Thus A is said to pervade all sounds. A is considered to be the symbol of the universe because all objects are indicated by ideas, and all ideas are indicated by sounds and all sounds are pervaded by the letter A.

When we utter the word "sound" how can we understand the meaning of sound? It is only by distinguishing it from soundlessness that we can understand sound. All sounds are got from soundlessness. Similarly all the states are got from the Turiya, corresponding to soundlessness. We have to merge waking into dreams, then merge dream into deep sleep. And finally we have to merge even this into Turiya.

AUM is conceived as the whole universe, which has got four quarters. How can one know that the universe and the self-[soul] are identical? The answer is "Look into his -self--the Atman.” This Atman has also four corresponding quarters.

When one utter the word AUM, the waking comes before him: when he thinks of dream, the dream states come before him; and so also with sleep. Thus every time he utters the word AUM the three states come before him.

Meditation on symbols is meant for dull and mediocre intellects. When we utter the word AUM we must think of the three states and also of the Ataman.

Aum is a sound, how can it be an elephant? "All sounds" means all objects, or entire Brahman.
Anything which is a thought, is an idea, and hence a superimposition. Aum is the substratum of all the words. It is the word of Atman. Aum stands for the sound and not the letter which is found in all languages. It sums up all the sounds in all the languages. As upon the mind everything else is super-imposed, so upon the Aum everything else is superimposed.

The sound has for its substratum or substance one’s own self. It comes from and disappears into the self, which is Atman.

All this baggage is not necessary in pursuit of truth. Seeker has to find and realize “What is mind?” and “What is the substance of the Mind?” nothing else in order to unfold the mystery of the physical existence [universe]. The individual experiences happening within the universe, such as birth, life and death and pain and pleasure are nothing to do with the self, which is formless consciousness. Thus, it is necessary to know the self is formless to realize the fact that, the burden of the human is not on the body but it is on the Self [soul or consciousness], which the religionists call it as God/Brahman/ Christ/Buddha and intellectuals call it as Consciousness.

Thus consciousness alone is real. The human and universe is mere mirage created out of consciousness. Know the consciousness as true self then one becomes free from experiencing the mirage [birth, life, death and the universe] as reality.

Dear Divyaji, There is nothing as sacred of Self-Knowledge. Realization of self-drives way the ignorance.

Self-Awareness frees ‘Self’ from the burden and bondage of illusory duality. It is the self that is in illusion. When it becomes aware of its true nature the universe is mere mirage to the self which is formless and non-dual in its nature. Thus the thoughts and words are part of the illusory existence.

Many spiritual masters say that sticking to "I am" is way out from the physical shackles. But that"I" or "I am" itself creates the physical prison. The one, which expresses itself as 'I', is not 'I' but it is formless consciousness. Therefore the ‘I’ or ‘I AM’ is not the self. Considering the ‘I’ or ‘I AM as self is erroneous. The self, which is in the form of consciousness cannot be called anything nor approached because it is prior to anything that exists. When the consciousness is the substance of the whole universe and its contents thoughts and words and it is not a thing or entity or identity within the physical existence but it pervades the whole physical existence than it is erroneous to limit the ‘I’ to the physical entity alone.

one has to grasp mentally the existence of the formless witness.' I or 'I' am is mere expression.

The whole physical existence or universe is an expression. Thus physical existence or universe is mere illusion. The man and his experience of the world and his belief of god are within the illusory expression. The diversity is created out of single substance and knowing that single substance brings unity in diversity in consciousness.

Thus the universe [duality] is mere illusion. That is mind is an illusion. The one that has this illusion is the consciousness, which is the innermost self.

Therefore it is erroneous to seek truth on the base of 'I' because 'I' is not self. It very much necessary to rectify the seeking base by proper understanding of the fact that ‘I’ or ‘I AM’ is not the self before indulging in the pursuit of truth.

As long as a person has a firm conviction that 'I' is self, he will not be able to understand ,assimilate and realize the non-dual truth, Because whatever knowledge one assimilate he assimilates as a person, which adds to his existing accumulated information. Therefore, seeker has to discover the fact that 'I' is not the self but 'I' is the whole universe, which appears in the form of mind. Universe is mere mirage. The duality is experienced only when the universe is present. Thus universe is duality. Consciousness is formless substance and witness of the universe. Thus consciousness is the true self and cause of the universe but it itself is uncaused because no second thing exist other than it.

It is necessary to have firm conviction 'I' is not self but the formless consciousness is the true self. To understand, assimilate and realize the non-dual truth.«smile»

The Jesus I Am who I Am Christ consciousness. Well that is my humle little me oppinion and you are going to get many more of them until I awaken to silence.

“Self is not “I”. To know the ultimate truth of one’s Self as the sole Reality, and to merge and become one with it, is the only true realization.

Just realize the Self, is not” I” but self is the formless substance and witness of the “I”, which is mere illusion. Because people want something elaborate and mysterious, so many belief systems have come into existence. Only those who are mature can understand the matter in its naked simplicity.

The ultimate truth is so simple; it is nothing more than being in natural, original state of the self, which is the soul. The soul is in the form of consciousness.

When one realizes the body is not the self, the soul is the true self, and then he realizes the experience of his body and the experience of world are mere illusion created out of the soul, which is in the form of consciousness. Therefore, there is only oneness, there is no second thing exists other than consciousness in the realm of the true self. By realizing the true self is not “I” one becomes free from experiencing the duality as reality.

Realization comes only when one realizes the self is not the body or ego, but the self is consciousness, and it pervades all the three states as their formless substance and witness.

One should not look for truth within the religion. The truth is beyond religion because the religion is based on the ignorance. Ignorance exist because of one thinks the false self [I] as true self and false experience [world] as reality.

There is no permanent peace in the duality; there is eternal peace only in the non-duality. Nothing can satisfy one but reunion with his real Self by realizing the fact that, the self is not form but self is formless.«smile»

Adyathmic discussion -54

In the universe we find sun, moon, planets, sky, ocean, Stars, Mountains and all living creatures and people. None of these can exist independently. They co-exist. They appear together and disappear together. Because everyone has the firm conviction that he is an individual separate from the world and world existed prior to him and he is born in it later on. Because of this conviction, he becomes ignorant of the reality of his true existence. Thus he perceives the world as a person. That is he has accepted the self as physical and observes the world. To the Gnani, birth, life and death, is a mere mirage, because he is fully aware of the fact that, all the three states are mere illusion. All the three states they appear and disappear in succession. The witness of the three states is neither the body nor the ‘I’. Thus the witness is apart from the body and ‘I’.

When one is “awake,” he incessantly thinks, and when he goes to sleep and dream, he does not think any the lesser. But when he pass from dreamful to dreamless sleep, his thoughts cease and he enjoy undisturbed peace, till he wakes again and resume his thinking and with it his restless, peace-less state. But all these are happening within the three states and he is aware of the experiences only in the waking experience.

Birth, life and death are part of the waking experience. The waking experience is mind, because when the mind exists, then only the duality prevails. Absent of mind absent of duality. Therefore waking/dream/mind/duality is one and the same thing.

People think life is miserable because they are not aware of the fact that ‘I’ is not the true self and all the three states are unreal on the standpoint of the soul, which is the true self.

Waking /dream consist of nothing but experience. In deep sleep the waking and dream disappears and the experience -Free State prevails. But soon experience appears again in the dream /astral/vision and continues till a full “waking” takes place in a new body, after another dreamless lull. This daily cycle of waking and sleeping is a miniature of the cycle of birth, life and death. Man and the universe are part of the illusion, which exists as waking/dream.
The substance of the waking and dream /deep sleep is Atman/spirit from which these three states arise. To transcend birth, life and death one has to transcend the three states and abide in the eternal substance which is the true self.

The terrible fear of death is absent only in deep sleep. The fear seize only in deep sleep. Fear is present only when sees his body and the world in waking/dream. But in dreamless sleep, or when one is under Anastasia. Fear haunts one only when one is fully “awake” and perceive the world, including his body.
If one becomes aware of the true self and learns to view and judge the worldview on the standpoint of the true self, the fear becomes part of the mirage. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the three states and become aware of the fact that, the true self, which witnesses the three states, is apart from the
three states.
If one traces this fear to the object, the loss of which gives rise to it, he will find that that object exists within the waking/dream which exists in the form of the
mind.

The attractiveworld and the senses that are touch, taste sights, sounds, smells, etc arewithin the waking/dream/duality.

People would be too glad to be rid of worldly life and all the problems and inconvenience itcreates for them if continued awareness were vouchsafed to them. It is the awareness, the consciousness, and not the body, he fears to lose.
Everyone loves existence because it is eternal awareness, which is their own Self.

The seeker of truth has to hold on to the pure awareness right now, while in the body and be free from all fear which is created out illusion.People want to know about rebirths. Theosophy speaks of 50 to thousands-year intervals between death and rebirth. But all these are imaginations based on the false self.

There is no relation between the standard of measurements of one state of consciousness and another. All such measurements are hypothetical. It must bedistinctly understood that it is not the soul that comes and goes, but the three states which appear and disappear. The three states are mere illusion on the standpoint of the formless witness which is the soul/true self.

On plane of duality that is in the waking experience, the waking world and the waking body exists, in the dream, dream world and the dream body exists. In dreamless sleep or in death, it remains wordless and bodiless, therefore it is illusion less.

The Gnani, the Self- Realized man, whose mind has already ceased to act, remains unaffected by birth, life death [duality]: it has dropped never to rise again as reality. The chain of illusions has snapped forever for him.It is now clear that there is neither real birth, nor real death. It is the illusion thatcreates the sense of reality in duality. The sense of reality of the duality will prevail, till it is destroyed by Self-Realization.

  • Rose Bud and Michael Reed like this.

    • Pavlos Dolatzoglou hello Santthosh, i feel a little bit ambivalent with your postings. On the one site, good pointers which protect from a kind of soft-advaita ;o) on the other side, i miss a kind of abillity or flexibility to use or compare it with other sayings.
      July 9 at 4:44pm ·

    • Pavlos Dolatzoglou for example. What Jean Klein ment with the body experience was not a body-based teaching. But in this kind of unflexibility you create this interpretation i think. That , for me is a danger. A danger that even the truth, formalized and used as a kind of mind-system,can become a kind of indistructable image, which is like blinders.
      July 9 at 4:48pm ·

    • Santthosh Kumaar
Dear Pavlos, I respect your views . There is no need to accept what I say without verifying. The pursuit of truth is pursuit of verification , noting has to be accepted without verification. One should not make teaching or any teacher as yardstick .The teachings are useless so long as the highest Truth is unknown, and it is equally useless when the highest Truth has already been known. I am neither a teacher nor I am teaching. I am just sharing my views derived from deeper self -search. Teacher and teaching is not required in pursuit of truth because the truth has to be ascertained by seeker himself. This subject is vast and it has to be grasped only through deeper self-search.
      Upanishad say:
This Ataman cannot be attained by the study of the Vedas, or by intelligence, or by much hearing of sacred books. It is attained by him alone whom It chooses. To such a one Ataman reveals Its own form. [Katha Upanishad Ch-II -23-P-20]
      Mundaka Upanishad :-
This Ataman cannot be attained through study of the Vedas, nor through intelligence, nor through much learning. He who chooses Ataman—by him alone is Ataman attained. It is Ataman that reveals to the seeker Its true nature. [ 3 –page-70 Mundaka Upanishad Upanishads by Nikilanada]

      When the Upanishads say:-

It is attained by him alone whom It chooses. To such a one Atman reveals its own form. Then what is the use of indulging through our intelligence or our accumulated knowledge, when one is not chosen by the self, which is the soul, which is in the form of consciousness.

There is no need for any philosophy in pursuit of truth because they take the seeker nearer to truth but they create more doubts and confusions.

The scriptures and theories and teaching based on the ego are not the yardstick. Using them as yardstick to understand and assimilate the truth will lead one towards pursuit of arguments. Seeker of truth has to discover on his own, the truth of his true existence by inquiring “what is mind?” and “what is substance of the mind?” and move forward.

Dear Pavols , move ahead in your chosen path sincerely and seriously. The inner direction comes on its own and leads you to the destination you are seeking for. I wish you all the success in your chosen path. have a blisssful time in this illusory experience of duality.

    • Shantinath Neuen this is so... the finger pointing to the moon is so thick... the moon disapears...
      July 9 at 5:47pm ·

    • Santthosh Kumaar
There is neither the finger nor the moon because the finger and the moon are also consciousness. Thus consciousness alone is all the forms and names are mere illusion created out of consciousness. Why go round and round, by various tortuous paths
When the Vedas and Upanishad declare that Consciousness or Atman is actually nothing but Brahman, then why go round and round, by various tortuous paths, like the blind led by the blind. One has to realize the fact that, the mind is in form of universe. Trace the source of mind and realize that source is consciousness. The mind rises from consciousness as waking or dream and subsides as deep sleep.
In Mandukya Upanishad Brahman and Atman are defined as same:
      सर्वं ह्येतद् ब्रह्मायमात्मा ब्रह्म सोयमात्मा चतुष्पात् / sarvam hyetad brahmaayamaatmaa brahm soyamaatmaa chatushpaat –
      Mandukya Upanishad, verse-2
      Translation:
      sarvam(सर्वम्)- Whole/All/Everything; hi(हि)- Really/Just/Surely/Indeed; etad(एतद्)- This here/This; brahm(ब्रह्म)- Brahm/Brahman; ayam(अयम्)- This/Here; aatmaa(आत्मा)- Atma/Atman; sah(सः)- He; ayam(अयम्)- This/Here; chatus(चतुस्)- Four/Quadruple; paat(पात्)- Step/Foot/Quarter
      Fragmented Verse:
      सर्वम् हि एतद् ब्रह्म अयम् आत्मा ब्रह्म सः अयम् आत्मा चतुस पात् / sarvam hi etad brahm ayama aatmaa brahm sah ayam aatmaa chatus paat
      Simple Meaning:-
All indeed is this Brahman; This Atman is Brahman; He, this Atman has four steps/quarters.
While Brahman lies behind the sum total of the objective universe, some human minds boggle at any attempt to explain it with only the tools provided by reason. Brahman is beyond the senses, beyond the mind, beyond intelligence, beyond imagination. Indeed, the highest idea is that Brahman is beyond both existence and non-existence, transcending and including time, causation and space, and thus can never be known in the same material sense as one traditionally 'understands' a given concept or object.
Imagine a person who is blind from birth and has not seen anything. Is it possible for us to explain to him the meaning of the colour red. Is any amount of thinking or reasoning on his part ever going to make him understand the sensation of the colour red? In a similar fashion the idea of Brahman cannot be explained or understood through material reasoning or any form of human communication. Brahman is like the colour red; those who can sense it cannot explain or argue with those who have never sensed it.
Brahman is considered the all-pervading consciousness which is the basis of all the animate and inanimate entities and material. (brahmano hi pratisthaham, Bhagavad Gita 14.27)

Dear Shantinath Neuen, I respect your views. You are right from your own stand point . Whatever makes sense is based on the ego and it only satisfies the ego.The ego is not the self because the ego is false self within the false experience. Thus judging and concluding the truth on the false self is bound to be falsehood. When the self is formless the judgment has to be based on the formless not on the form[ego], than only one will be able to understand and assimilate and realize the non-dual truth. 'I' or 'I AM is inborn samskara or conditioning. It is very difficult to overcome this samskara or conditioning without realizing the 'I' or 'I AM is not the self but the formless knower[consciousness] of the 'I' or 'I AM' is the true self.

oh hello Santthosh, for me it is not so relevant if You are telling us the truth or not, it is relevant what effect has this telling. For example, many people say even "formless" is a form and even that ist not the true self. I like the saying of Bentinho as he explained that "even the formless" is a state and that "awareness" has no form of it`s own, so it can`t even be "formless" ;o) you understand? the whole point is, that you have the feeling or it feels like that, that you are gone deep and others not. ;o) that means not that what you say is not usefull. I like it (if it would not be so long:)

Why You Are Not Your Brain, and Other Lessons from the Biology of Consciousness
by :AlvaNoë. Hill and Wang, 2009

Alva No, a University of California, Berkeley, philosopher and cognitive scientist, argues that after decades of concerted effort on the part of neuroscientists, psychologists and philosophers "only one proposition about how the brain makes us conscious ... has emerged unchallenged: we don't have a clue." The reason we have been unable to explain the neural basis of consciousness, he says, is that it does not take place in the brain. Consciousness is not something that happens inside us but something we achieve it is more like dancing than it is like the digestive process. To understand consciousness the fact that we think and feel and that a world shows up for us we need to look at a larger system of which the brain is only one element. Consciousness requires the joint operation of brain, body and world. "You are not your brain. The brain, rather, is part of what you are."

If the brain [body] is not the self then what is self? Therefore, there is a need to understand and assimilate the knowledgeof the self through deeper self-search in order to unfold the mystery of the ‘I’. this is possible when one becomes aware of the fact that the mind is not within the body but body including the universe are within the mind. until one thinks the mind within the the body it is mere intellectuality not realization of truth. The unity in diversity arise only when one becomes aware of the fact that, his body, ego and his experience of the world are mere mirage created out of consciousness. The physical existence is reality on the base of physical self. Whatever one feels as a person is reality within the physical existence. If physical existence is taken as reality then there is no meaning in seeking truth because he has accepted the physical existence as truth. Once physical existence is accepted as reality then the experiences within the physical existence prevail as reality.

My point is we have to view our life from ultimate point of view, then only we become aware its illusory nature.

The nature of things necessarily unpreventable and uncontrollable when one regards world as world of diversity. Only when one is able to base his-self from ultimate standpoint and views the experience of diversity [mind] as consciousness only, then he becomes aware of their unreal nature of the physical existence or mind.

One, who has realized that existence and non-existence and change are in the nature of things, easily finds repose, being unperturbed and free from ignorance. The pain and pleasure exist as reality because of having the idea of two [duality]. To get rid of the reality of the pain and pleasure one has to find the formless substance of the duality [mind] to realize the whole diversity is created out of single substance, which is consciousness. Realizing the consciousness as ultimate truth, one becomes aware of the unreal nature of the mind, which appears as waking or dream [duality] and disappears as deep sleep [non-duality] .

Serious Seekers who desirous to know the truth, for them nothing bring contentment other then acquiring the self-knowledge. For one who becomes aware of the fact that, the self is not physical but consciousness becomes aware of the fact that, the physical existence [illusion] has no base, and its reality is in illusory in its nature.

Our individual life is nothing to do with ultimate truth. The individual life is reality within the waking or dream. The three states are mere illusion on the ultimate standpoint. The ultimate truth, which is consciousness, is the substance and witness of the illusion and it is within the illusion and it is always apart and eternal.

As person perceiving the world one thinks he is born in this world and world existed prior to him, this conviction makes him physical oriented, thus he views and judges the world-view on the physical base therefore his understanding is limited to the physicality.

Deeper inquiry reveals the fact that, the self is not physical but it is formless [consciousness]. On the base of formless [consciousness] as self, one becomes unreal nature of the mind, which appears as waking or dream. Thus, the waking is as unreal as dream.

When man his world are within the illusion and all his experiences are happenings within the illusion. Until one thinks the physical self as real self, he is bound to be in the realm of duality. The one which knows itself as body with the name is not the body but it is consciousness. When the consciousness withdraws itself then there is neither body, nor the name, nor the world exists. And consciousness alone prevails as non-dual existence.

Where is the body, where is mind, where is the world; the void; or despair in the true self, which the taintless soul or consciousness. They are or have becomes consciousness.

One thinks there is mind when he has thoughts, but when thoughts are not considered different from the consciousness, which is the true self, then where is the division into, waking, dream and deep sleep etc.

Void implies to duality: the universe may not exist but the thought of the second is there. If one knows there is Void [emptiness/nothingness], then there is something there to be known and know. They are or have become consciousness.

What are scriptures, what is self-knowledge, what is mind without the objects, what is contentment, and where is desirelessness for the formless soul/true self, which is ever devoid of sense of duality.

What is knowledge? What is ignorance? What is the ego? What is duality? What is mind? What is bondage? What is liberation? What is definableness to the formless self/soul, which is in the form of consciousness?

All these appearances are mere mirage, which come and go; hence meaningless to the formless soul/true self.

The ego based knowledge is not ultimate knowledge because ego based knowledge is dualistic knowledge based on the object [body] as subject. But in non-dualistic Knowledge whatever seems to exist also is consciousness; therefore there is no scope for the existence of the second thing.

What is past karmas? What is liberation –in this life? and what is that liberation at death? for the birth- less soul, which is ever formless.

Nearest state to understand the soul by itself is to eliminate mentally waking and dream as in deep sleep. Once this is grasped one has to understand everything is consciousness, which is the true self.

What is the doer or the enjoyer? What is cessation of thoughts or rising of thoughts? What is immediate perception and its result to, the formless soul, which is ever impersonal. A Gnani is the one who is never afraid of thinking and knowing all his individual experience and the world to be consciousness.

What is the world and what is meant by the aspirant for liberation; what is contemplative and what is man of knowledge; what the self is and what liberated self to the formless soul, which is the non-dual essence.

When we analyze the dream experience we find the dream entity, dream world with all people in it appeared as a whole, and the dream reality lasted until waking experience appeared. When one tries to know the truth of his true existence in waking through inquiry, analysis and reasoning, one becomes aware of the fact that, the self is not physical but it is formless soul, which is in the form of consciousness which is the essence of the three states from which the three states are made. Thus the illusions of the three states are made of one single substance, which is consciousness. By realizing the formless substance, which is consciousness as self, the ignorance vanishes and one become aware of the fact that the three states are mere illusion on the standpoint of the formless substance ,which is also the witness of the three states.

When knows the soul as the true self:-

What are projection and retraction, what are end and means; what are failure and success to the formless soul, which is formless and non-dual in its nature. The mirage appears and merges back into its essence is not an appearance at all.

What is the knower, the means of knowledge, the object of knowledge; what is anything or nothing to the soul which is ever formless. Knower, knowledge, object, thing, nothing or any word one may utter is after all they are the words and words have meaning only within the mirage. The consciousness is ever present in all the three states but as a person, one is unconscious of the consciousness because he thinks the body as his self.

When all knowing, known and knower are simultaneously mental as in dream what else is there to trouble about understanding them. Because of considering the waking experience as reality one is incapable of understanding and assimilating the non-dual truth.

What is the distraction? What is the concentration, dullness ad delusion, happiness and sorrow to the formless soul, which is ever actionless.

As a person one may be drawn to observe his body and the world, but the Gnani is not disturbed by because they all are consciousness to him.

The physical attributes are nothing to do with the soul/self wrongly; all the attributes belong to the ego not the soul. Identifying the physical attribute to the soul is the cause of the ignorance.
What is relative? What is absolute happiness and misery to the formless soul, which is ever devoid of thought and activity?

If anything has a meaning it is only in duality. Happiness and sorrow are the nature of duality, which is mind, there differences therefore illusory on the standpoint of the formless soul, which is ultimate reality.

What is illusion? What is ignorance? What are birth, life and death? What is world? What is attachment and what is detachment to the soul/self, which is ever formless.

The mind and soul are one in essence ultimately. All argument about consciousness never touches it. The soul is not the ego in this particular body but principle which holds the whole physical existence [universe], which contains everyone and everything known and unknown. All words have no place and thoughts cannot reach. Even the thought of the soul or consciousness is just illusory and contradictory, because the thought and words belong to the world of duality.

What is activity or inactivity, liberation and bondage to the formless soul/self, which is ever immutable and indivisible. There is no division into nations, races and colours of kinds of men in wisdom. It is not enough to but one must always see the formless soul [consciousness] as self and the witness the witness of all the three states and always realize and practice it. Some people get glimpses of truth and lose it; so it must be established. Such fixidity is the goal.

What is instruction and scriptural injunction? What is disciple and guru? What indeed is object of life for the formless soul, which is absolute and free from limitation?

Life is with world. World is within the waking or dream, the illusory limitation. When there is no second other than consciousness, then what is there for the soul /self to attain? But when one thinks the self is physical, then there is various things he will want to get and so be trouble by their lack. Hence don’t wrongly imagine the self to be the body.

What is existence, nonexistence, unity or duality? What need us there to say more? Noting from the soul because whatever seems to emanate from it, is non-different from itself. There is no second thing other than the soul, which is in the form of consciousness. One should not mistake self [soul] for the ego.

Those who assert world is reality, are still in elementary stages of preliminary analysis. The world is reality within the waking experience but the waking experience is mere illusion. The same way the dream world was reality within the dream experience. The dream became unreal when waking took place same way waking becomes unreal when non-dual wisdom dawns. thus intelctual understanding is not wisdom.

Dear Iamyou, When the soul ,which is the true self wakes up in its own formless non-dual nature in the midst of duality[waking and realizes all the form and name are mere mirage it is self -realization.Self-realization does not arise arguing on the base of physical self or ego because the self is not form but formless consciousness. Soul is the ultimate truth. The soul is in the form of consciousness. The Soul is self-evident. It is not established by extraneous proofs. It is not possible to deny the soul, because It is the very essence of the one who denies It. The soul is the basis of all kinds of knowledge, presuppositions and proofs. Soul is the true self. Self is within, Self is without; Self is before, Self is behind; Self is on the right, Self is on the left; Self is above and Self is below.

Soul/Self is not an object, as it is invisible, beyond the reach of the eyes. Soul/self is whole, infinite, changeless, self-existent, self-delight, self-knowledge. It is, essence. It is the essence of the knower of the physical existence. It is the formless witness of the three states.

Soul/Self is supreme and it is impersonal, without attributes, formless, , immutable, eternal and. It is above all needs and desires. It is always the Witnessing Subject. It can never become an object as It is beyond the reach of the physicality because it is prior to physicality. Soul/Self is non-dual, one without a second. It has no other beside It. It is destitute of difference, either external or internal. Soul/Self cannot be described, because description implies distinction. Soul/Self cannot be distinguished from any other than itself.

The belief system is based on physicality. One has to dismantle physical structure mentally by realizing the fact that, the self is not physical but it is formless spirit, to overcome all conflicts and move towards the universal truth. Until one thinks body is one thing and world is another he will remain in ignorance. Only when he becomes aware of the fact that, the body and the world both are created out of single stuff, then there is unity in diversity in his understanding.

When the roses, smell and smeller ,love, I and YOU are one in essence than where is duality, how can one get knowledge out of himself when man is not self. How can one get personal experience when the self is not an individual. Who or what has to allow to give up all his knowledge when man is not self. When man and his experience of the world are mere mirage created out of consciousness from the ultimate stand point than what value is there for the form, name and experience. Thus one has to first realize self is not the form but self is formless consciousness. than judge and reason on the formless self. Basing the judgment on the form and passing opinion on the form base is intellectuality. Realizing the self is formless getting firm conviction leads to Non-dual Self -Awareness in the midst of duality. Thus both experience and experiencer are part of the duality. There is no scope for duality in non-dual reality.

    • Pavlos Dolatzoglou hallo Santthosh, first love what is, then it is formless ;o)
      Friday at 6:01am ·

    • Santthosh Kumaar
Dear Pavlos , in practical world, love is first, but in pursuit of truth self is first and practical life is secondary because the practical life within the practical world is nothing to do with the true self, which is consciousness. Consciousness[self] is the cause of everything and it itself is uncaused. Love is not the means of self –realization. Love is very much necessary in practical life within the practical world. In reality love implies duality. Whatever is of duality Lover and love ceases to exist in reality because the experience of duality is not reality. The experience of practical life within practical world is reality within the waking experience but waking experience itself is mere illusion created out of consciousness. Thus lover and love are one in essence. Thus pat of love is religious path because religion is path of individuality or duality.
Most of the saints and sages of the past are mostly social reformers, thus they are more concerned to the humanism rather than the truth. Their contribution is very valuable to live in the practical world. Thus humanism is limited to practical life within the practical world. The path of love is path for humanity therefore it is individualized path. Thus path of love is limited to the physical structure, it cannot transport one to ultimate end. Thus seeker has to understand the fact that the practical life and practical world are part of the mirage from the ultimate standpoint.
The simple reason is that the average person may have desire for knowledge but when the whole society is immersed in belief system and feeling himself out of place because of societal fear and surroundings circumstances and he thinks it unfits him to pursue the path of truth.
The seeker of truth is one who is ready verify and has courage to accept and reject the truth when he finds out what is truth and what is untruth. The meek will stick to their inherited conditioning remain experiencing duality as reality. thus immersing the path of love is immersing in duality, which is mere illusion.

    • Santthosh Kumaar
Dear Pavlos, I admire your sincerity and seriousness in your pursuit of truth. From ultimate point there there is nothing exists other than consciousness therefore there is no conflict . the body, ego and universe will not disappear but their unreal nature is exposed. A Gnani is fully aware of the fact that, his body, ego and universe are also as consciousness thus his mind still even in the midst of duality. The individual experience within the dream is reality with in the dream. Therefore waking reality is also is reality within the waking. This waking is parallel dream and dream is parallel waking. Only when self-wakes up in waking the dream becomes unreal. When the self, consciously wakes up in its formless non-dual true nature in the midst of waking experience then all the three states are mere mirage created out of its formless non-dual true nature.
The form time and space within the dream are falsehood when waking takes place. Similarly the form, time and space of the waking are also falsehood when wisdom dawns. The wisdom dawns only when one realize the self is neither the waking entity nor the dream entity. Thus it is erroneous to judge and reason and conclude the ultimate truth on the base of waking entity and waking world because waking experience itself is illusion.
Suppose you were holding the same view in the dream, all your experiences and views are reality within the dream. The dream becomes unreal when waking takes place. Similarly the waking becomes unreal when you become aware the fact that, the self is not an individual. Thus whatever individual experiences experienced within the waking is as unreal as dream.
Until one thinks body as body and world as world it is impossible to grasp nondual truth, because his views and judgments are bases on physical self with the physical existence. The individuality is reality with the waking experience but the waking experience itself is false hood. Thus holding the view as an individual within the false experience is erroneous on the ultimate point of view. The waking is parallel dream and dream is parallel waking experience.
In waking the universe comes: in deep sleep the waking goes. In waking is one born; in waking one dies.
In waking one lives, in Waking one suffers. In Waking one earns, in Waking one enjoys. In Waking is one truthful or lies like a liar. In Waking one reflects on Virtue and Sin. In Waking do one lands in Heaven and Hell. In Waking is one happy, in Waking in sorrow. In Waking does one lose the distinctions of caste and creed. In Waking is one wise; in Waking is one unwise.
In Waking one has an urge to know the truth. In Waking one is in the illusion; in Waking is one shadowed by Doubts and confusion, in waking one thinks of reincarnation and rebirth. In waking one thinks that he is born in this world and world existed prior to him. In waking one is in ignorance of the true self, which is consciousness. If one spots out the true self within the three states, one realizes the way to freedom.
One is in action in Waking. In Waking one is bound by form, time and space. Waking is in the form of mind. Mind appears and disappears as waking or dream. If there is no mind then there is no waking or dream. Waking or dream is born out of ignorance of the true self. Getting rid of the ignorance through wisdom is the way to the release. In Waking or dream, one follows the Writ of habit. Waking or dream is a chronic malady; but within it also is its remedy.
The true Self is not perceptible to the senses. It is perceived by Reason. It is not perceptible as a thing with form and attributes. To those whose attention is fixed on the body and the world, it is very difficult to attain Self-knowledge. It is also very difficult for them to see the consciousness as self. The attention towards the universe [mind] should be lessened by realizing the self is not the body. The attention has to be focused on the formless substance and witness of the universe [mind] should be increased. So long as the attention is directed towards the universe, the experience of birth, life and death will prevail as reality. But when the attention is directed towards the formless substance and witness of the mind, the ignorance vanishes and the sense of reality of the duality will disappear. Then there is unity in diversity.

To such a one Ataman reveals its own form.

The ultimate truth is one without the second, the one is not in the sense half or two, but the one that remain forever One, without the second. The consciousness is all pervading. There is no place where consciousness is not.
Consciousness is in everyone, consciousness is in everything .consciousness is one behind many. Consciousness alone is. It means the universe and its contents are the visible form of consciousness. And consciousness in turn is invisible form of the universe, which appears as mind.
Since people all are not aware of the fact that, they are an experience within another experience [waking/dream]. The mind is an experience, which contains everyone and everything and the universe. Since one limits the mind to the physical entity, he forgets the fact that, his body and the universe is an experience, within waking or dream experience. It is impossible to unfold the mystery of his true existence without realizing the fact that, the self is not physical but the self is consciousness. If the self is not physical then it is erroneous to judge and conclude the truth on the base of the physical self or ego. Thus the truth has to be judges on the base of the true self, which is consciousness which is not an individual but it pervades all the three states as their formless substance and witness.
Until and unless one rectifies the reasoning base from form to formless, the ultimate truth [Brahman] will not be revealed.
On the standpoint of the formless soul/consciousness
      "There is nothing to accept,
      Nothing to reject,
      Nothing to hold on to,
      Nothing to let go of,
      Nothing to grasp,
      Nothing to spurn,
      Nothing to embrace,
      Nothing to relinquish,
      Nothing to dissolve.

      This is the truth.

      ~ From Ashtavakra-Gita

Becoming conscious of the fact that, our body ,ego and mind or universe[waking] as consciousness in the midst of waking or duality leads to self-awareness.
