The ultimate truth lies beyond all religion, scriptures beliefs and philosophies.

Most  God men or Swamis  seems to be very sincere. Everyone speaks about great things and their lives,  but their lives are with   full of controversies.  The trouble is that most  people who come from the west have a very innocent, very trusting, and they are unaware of the fact  that, in India, diverse beliefs and theories is considered as spirituality.

The dollar conscious guru focus his attention more on the western crowd and he makes them emotionally involved with him, naturally they get involved with him.  Most people get attracted to tantric sex, with a  promise of   reaching  super- consciousness.

Deeper inquiry revels the fact that, the self is not physical, but it is formless spirit , then how can one reach the super- consciousness on the base of false self.

The seeker of truth has  to realize the fact that, the religion and yoga  are not spirituality, because religion and yoga  are built on physical foundation therefore, it is not the means to acquire self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.

Even the Advaita  Master, Sri, Sankara' gave religious, ritual or dogmatic instruction to the mass but pure philosophy only to the few who could rise to it. Hence the interpretation of his writings by commentators is often confusing because they mix up the two viewpoints. Thus they may assert that ritual is a means of realizing Brahman, which is absurd.
In commentary to "Brahma Sutras Sri, Sankara writes." "The highest beatitude is not to be attained by Yoga." [Sacred Books of East Series page 298 Vol.1.]   And he also says Samadhi is the same as sleep [p.312]. ---this indicates that yoga is not the means to self realization.  And yogic Samadhi is not non dual wisdom.

Religion is  parrot-like, but to the Western seekers  it seems to be a tremendous revelation -- when some one quotes parable from the scriptures Because for the West, spirituality is a foreign affair, just as for the East, science is a foreign affair.

Yajurved says:
Translation 1.
They enter darkness, those who worship natural things (for example air, water, sun, moon, animals, fire, stone, etc).
They sink deeper in darkness those who worship sambhuti. (Sambhuti means created things, for example table, chair, idol etc.)
[Yajurved 40:9]

Translation 2.
"Deep into shade of blinding gloom fall asambhuti's worshippers. They sink to darkness deeper yet who on sambhuti are intent."
[
Yajurveda Samhita by Ralph T. H. Giffith pg 538]

Translation 3.
"They are enveloped in darkness, in other words, are steeped in ignorance and sunk in the greatest depths of misery who worship the uncreated, eternal prakrti -- the material cause of the world -- in place of the All-pervading God, But those who worship visible things born of the prakrti, such as the earth, trees, bodies (human and the like) in place of God are enveloped in still greater darkness, in other words, they are extremely foolish, fall into an awful hell of pain and sorrow, and suffer terribly for a long time."
[Yajur Veda 40:9.]
So, Yajur Veda indicates that:-
They sink deeper in darkness those who worship sambhuti. (Sambhuti means created things, for example table, chair, idol etc [Yajurved 40:9]
Those who worship visible things born of the prakrti, such as the earth, trees, bodies (human and the like) in place of God are enveloped in still greater darkness, in other words, they are extremely foolish, fall into an awful hell of pain and sorrow, and suffer terribly for a long time." [Yajur Veda 40:9.]
The religion of the Veda knows no idols
Max Müller says:- "The religion of the Veda knows no idols; the worship of idols in India is a secondary formation, a degradation of the more primitive worship of ideal gods."

Therefore, there was no individual god or temples and worships in Vedic religion, which exited prior to Buddhism.  Thus the individualized gods and temples must have been built later on, when the worships of idol were introduced.  Thus the Vedic religion which existed in the past was free from idol and nature worship and idol worshiping rituals.
Thus, the present days worship of individual gods, created things, nature and human are against Vedic teachings, and it looks like it has been fabricated and introduced by priest craft. Since it, has passed on from one generation to the next it is hard for the people to believe the truth of their own religion, because they have sentimentally and emotionally involved in it and  they refuse to accept anything else other then their inherited beliefs.
Looking at the increasing number of fake god men and gurus and their scandals, it is high time for the truth seekers, who are capable of thinking must do deeper research and know the fact that, their inherited religious belief is mixed and messed up in the past and people are made to believe that it is their duty to protect their religion and their belief and tradition, which is the hotchpotch ideology and not the real non- dual philosophy. The ultimate truth lies beyond all religion, scriptures beliefs and philosophies.
It is impossible to find and realize the truth via religion and scriptural study. Even Upanishads conform this.
This Atman cannot be attained by the study of the Vedas, or by intelligence, or by much hearing of sacred books. It is attained by him alone whom It chooses. To such a one Atman reveals Its own form. [Katha Upanishad Ch-II -23-P-20]
Mundaka Upanishad  :-
This Atman cannot be attained through study of the Vedas, nor through intelligence, nor through much learning. He who chooses Atman—by him alone is Atman attained. It is Atman that reveals to the seeker Its true nature. [    3 –page-70 Mundaka Upanishad  Upanishads by Nikilanada]

When the Upanishads says:  the human goal is to acquire Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana  and they indicate the personal gods, scriptures, worship and rituals are not the means to Self –Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana, then why anyone should indulge in it. The religion, concept of individualized god and scriptures are greatest obstacle to acquire Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana , because they are based on false self.  The seeker of truth has to search the ultimate truth without losing himself in the labyrinths of philosophy, through deeper, inquiry, analysis and reasoning and assimilate and realize it.
Miracles are part of the duality. Without duality miracles are impossible. Miracles makes one remain in the prison of physicality. Miracle man  is neither a mystic nor a Gnani, just an ordinary magician. This miracle based god men  are  hypocrites because they  know nothing of ultimate truth. They  declares themselves as great Gnanis. They build multi-specialty hospitals in the name of serving people, it means they do not have power to cure people without the hospitals. All their concern to people and good work  has to be  appreciated and they deserve to be glorified for their noble deeds, but  not for their miracle power. In the realm of truth miracles are part of the illusion.
People  go and seek god men , to  fulfillment of their desire and dreams thinking he has the power to fulfill all his desire . People think  he can produce things out of air, he can do anything, so a deep affinity happens immediately. That's why thousands of people around these god men waiting with their begging  bowl ,without realizing the fact that,  the god men himself is the beggar ,who accepts the money from everyone.
In the presence a Gnani , one  will not see multitudes there, because there is no affinity because he is ordinary householder. He never claims himself a Gnani.  He wears no religious robes. He never speaks of god , nor he invokes anyone in the name of god and religion. He only tries to guide others. He never imposes any one to accept his thoughts. Only advanced souls will recognize him.
This religious based gurus  has an appeal deep inside the mass. People think  he  is the right man. He is right man for those who follow the path of blind beliefs.  But wrong choice for those who are seeking after the truth. No one  can decide who is the right man, because people create their own  deceivers, they  give them the opportunity.  They  follow magicians, snake charmers, blind  believers ,and the people with religious robes   but  not to the man of truth, because mass is not after truth,  they are after things.
If one really seeking the  truth ,  then he has to drop ignorance. To drop ignorance he has to  drop his beliefs. Seeker has to start in pursuit of truth  completely without beliefs. Seek truth  with no beliefs and no  accumulated knowledge. Only then, he  will be able to grasp the non-dual truth; only the truth starts revealing itself. Then one becomes aware all the god men who are pretending to be Gnanis  are mere pretenders. .
All kinds of frauds... but people become interested in them, thinking that here is a man of miracles. And what is the use  of this  miracle power from  which  the violence and terrorism happening around the globe  cannot be stopped.
In pursuit  of truth there is scope for  miracles. The three state   itself a miracle. Whatever is happening between the three states is  miracle. It is a beauty, it is magic, but it is all spontaneous. It is not practiced, it is not rehearsed. But most people are interested in supernatural powers, healing people with supernatural powers, or creating things out of nothing, just as these God men  is doing. It is so simple that any street magician can do it. In fact the more experienced street magicians can do it in a far better way, and can do many more things than he is doing.
The great magician David Blain performs all sorts of magic  but he never claims himself as god.   These god men perform mere  magic, which they claim as miracles. Even if they perform real miracle , it cannot be accepted as truth because they are performing them within the illusion.
People are in no mood to  verify the facts, they think people who talk against the god men are  senile or an Atheist.
All that god men  produces is things, and he gives people  things, not wisdom, and they think it is great.  The  magicians are  pretending  to be a spiritual personality. It is not only a question of a single person pretending to be spiritual when he is not. The question is that he attracts thousands of people, and  people who are seeking after truth, who believe that this God men  of miracles may impart something to them, may lead them to the ultimate truth.
Believers are not  seeker of truth. Because the truth is not belief. Belief is the greatest obstacle in pursuit of truth. Once one accepts the belief he cannot come out of the physical shackles.
The religious people wants miracles ,they are not interested in  truth. They go to god men  because truth is not the question there -- miracles are happening. They can hope. They think the god men , by his miracle, can take their worldly troubles away. And  by his blessing they will become rich. They go to god men   because  he deals in things which they need. their real object is  they want what they need. This miracle  games has no value at all, of no spiritual  value at all.
The attachments, burden and bondage of  the worldly life  is so intoxicating  that even if one  go towards seeking truth  he look for miracles. If he  finds a man of truth   standing before him , he  will not recognize him. If man of truth   and god men  are both present he will definitely move towards god men, and not towards man of truth, because man of truth does not perform any miracles.
People are in search of god men nor man of truth. People are impressed by miracles, because their  deepest desire is for the worldly things  and not for ultimate truth or Brahman.

Desire, attachment, passion has to be regarded part of illusion.

The religionists and yogis  cannot get over their tallest hurdle, not because they cannot see that the physical  self is false self,  but because they are so strongly attached to the physical self , that they modify or fit their theories to please this attachment. In short, they refuse to give up their egocentricity.
People who  accepted  body and world as real will not be able to assimilate Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana .  Yoga and mysticism, is for  the middling class of intelligence. Those who grasp that they are mere mirage belong to the highest grade of intellects.
Desire, attachment, passion has to be  regarded part of illusion.  Without considering them as illusion  handicaps to path, because they prevent one from  accepting truth.
Naturally one  will say "I like my car . It is so comfortable and luxurious. And he  refuse to regard it as a mere mirage," if he is  so passionately attached to its reality. They do not necessarily mean specific desires for wealth, women, etc.
The  higher truth should not be discussed with    anyone who is  non-receptive and incapable of grasping the truth that three states are mere mirage.
Non-dual truth  is verified knowledge. Most people cannot grasp it, because they have stuck to the reality of the practical life and practical world  ." Unless one is able to realize the  fact that, the formless  soul, which is present in the form of consciousness  is the true self  , he will not be able to  grasp the ultimate truth or Brahman.
One has to  get rid of attachments to reality of body and world and help himself  to know them as illusion. The  the body ,ego , senses and the world are  reality within the illusion.  Thus there is no need to control the senses to realize the ultimate truth
It is absolutely necessary  to Know the fact that ,  waking or dream   are not different from the mind.  They are mind itself.  the formless substance witness of the mind is soul or consciousness, which is the innermost self.  from the standpoint of the innermost self the three states are illusory.
Before one  can arrive at a knowledge that the physical existence or universe  is  really an illusion he must study, investigate .
Scientists say now that matter is mind-body. But the truth  is mind itself is the  matter. No scientist has been able to explain how and when the  consciousness--came into existence.

The thinker and thought are part of the illusion or mirage. The thought will not arise without the form.  The form will not arise without the mind. The minds cease to exist without the soul , which is in the form of consciousness.  Therefore, there is a need to know the “Self” is not limited to the physical entity, but it pervades in everything and everywhere in all the three states.   The self [consciousness] remains in its formless non-dual true nature which is identified as deep sleep in ignorance or duality.
There is neither thinker, nor the thought in reality. The one who bases himself on the thinker and thought or creation and creator will not be able cross the threshold duality.  All the three states are created, sustained by the consciousness and finally dissolves itself remains in its formless nondual nature. There is no second thing other than the consciousness. Thus everything else other than the consciousness is illusion.  Thus the consciousness alone is real all else is mere mirage.
Thus, the individual experiences, which are happening within the waking experience, are also as good as dream. The one which is aware of the appearance and disappearance of the three states is the consciousness.  Thus, the thought arises to the individual.  And Individuality is falsehood within the false experience.  Thus it is necessary to know the self is not ‘I’ but the formless consciousness in order to grasp the non-dual truth

Buddha got enlightenment only after he gave up Yoga

Ignorance cannot go through merely knowing the soul as self .  In ignorance  soul  is known as  deep sleep. It can go only by knowing  the ultimate truth with firm conviction that the illusion also is soul ,because illusion  and the soul are one in essence. the soul is present in the form of consciousness. The universe in which we live is created out of consciousness. There is no second thing exists other than consciousness. Thus consciousness alone is real and all else is mere illusion created out of consciousness.
The yogic Samadhi does not lead to truth, because yogic Samadhi  has physical author. In Yogic Samadhi one is  unaware of the of the universe, and hence of  the ultimate truth. To talk of  ultimate truth  without knowing the meaning of the word is utterly meaningless.
The yogi  thinks the thoughtlessness is Samadhi and that thoughtless Samadhi is ultimate truth.  The truth is  know only by inquiry, analysis and reasoning on the true base. Yogi excludes the world in his Samadhi therefore he does not know the ultimate truth.
The yogi claims he has seen Brahman in his Samadhi , the Brahman is not an object  but it is the formless subject. How can the object see the subject when object exist prior to the subject and object is fully dependent on the subject for its existence. Thus the the yogi does not have the knowledge of the subject because his practices thinking the object  as subject.
It is not enough to see a mere blankness in  Samadhi . One has to  to see Soul as  the universal self.  The soul is  free from ignorance not when one  see nothing at all, as in Yoga but only when one  sees all this three states  is the soul or contagiousness, the innermost self.
It is no use seeing God everywhere. One  must see spirit, the same soul, the same self, everywhere he becomes aware there is no second thing in experience of diversity and all diversity is mere mirage.
The main  purpose of analyzing the the three states  is to discover that it is part of the ultimate reality and thus to enable us to carry on with activity from the highest possible viewpoint; where people fail to make this analysis, as with so many religious-minded seekers, they fail to do anything worthwhile in the material world. To effect this discrimination, one needs receptivity and sharpness to grasp  the truth.

That is why Sri, Sankara [ V C]  indicated that:-

56. Neither by Yoga, nor by Sankhya, nor by work, nor by learning, but by the realisation of one's identity with Brahman is Liberation possible, and by no other means.

Buddha gave up his austerities of yoga as impossible and useless. [Page.70/71 "Buddhism in Translation” by Warren]

Thus Buddha got enlightenment only after he gave up Yoga. Unless one exercises his reason--there is no chance of getting truth.

Buddha gave up yoga after practicing it for six years. He saw it could not yield truth.  Page.70/71 "Buddhism In Translation” by Warren quoted as showing how Buddha gave up his austerities of yoga as impossible and useless. Thus Buddha got enlightenment only after he gave up Yoga. Unless one exercises his Reason--there is no chance of getting the non- dualistic truth.

BRIH. UPANISAD: page 32. "Yoga does not yield truth or liberation."

BRIHAD UP. Page 133 1st para points out that even yoga cannot give perfect concentration and that the only way to gain it is philosophical realization. This confirms Mandukya's statement that yoga can no more succeed than the ocean can be emptied with a blade of grass.

Upanishad and one will see that it says Atman the innermost self is known by Reason alone, by sharpened and purified intellect. Yet still people worship Yoga and mysticism as the sole means of attaining Atman.

Truth is neither in religion, nor in philosophy.

Love and hate, pain and pleasure created out of single stuff, which is formless soul or   spirit or consciousness. They have value only in duality the duality is mere illusion on ultimate point of view.    The spirit is real and all else is illusion.

Individual experiences are happening within the waking experience. Individual experiences and circumstances are reality only until one becomes aware of the fact that the waking entity is not the self ,but the formless witness of the three states is the true self.

Truth is neither in religion, nor in philosophy.  Of course, a lot depends on how one defines "truth."   One has to investigate how the mind[ physical existence] is able to sustain itself. And with what? In order to realize what is truth.

People whose primary experience with religion tend to define "religion" in a way that requires belief in gods and supernatural beings. That is a limited view based on the physical self . Truth  does not require belief in God, or  yoga because they are also  based on physical self.

Seeker has to  acquire Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana   through his own efforts. Following religion ,glorifying guru and  gods, practicing yoga and studying the scriptures are  are  not useful in realizing  the true  self.

"Soul " also represents enlightenment itself and also Soul’s nature -- the essential nature of all the three states.

Non duality is the state of oneness of existence and there is no scope in its philosophy for anything like non-existence.
Gaudapada’s rational exposition of Advaita: - that whatever is seen, whether external or internal, whether by the ordinary persons or yogis, is unreal.

The essence of Mandukya's is: Do not be satisfied with rituals, yoga etc. which are good in their own way, but inquire. Inquire in to the nature of the mind. ? Brahman and Atman are things one can never see. So seeker should not inquire into them.  He has to inquire into the world around him, which he can see. Analysis   tells him it is passing away every second. Everything is dying repeatedly. Where is it going? Thus he follows up his investigation into what he can lay hands on. How can he inquire into Atman which he cannot see? So first he must deal with the known and seen, this inquiry leads up to the unknown in the end.

Mediocre minds waste their time on arguing about unimportant matters. Accumulation of scriptural knowledge is dangerous in pursuit of truth. Seeker has to establish in the truth of Non-duality by sheer reasoning alone. Seeker has to begin by defining "What is real?" "What is unreal?" etc, because that is the right way to discuss, understand and assimilate Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana  .

Thus seeker has to remove all the hindrance in order to acquire Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana  .
There is no need for any philosophy in pursuit of truth because they take the seeker nearer to truth but they create more doubts and confusions.

The scriptures and theories and teaching based on the ego are not the yardstick. Using them as yardstick to understand and assimilate the truth will lead one towards pursuit of arguments. Seeker of truth has to discover on his own, the truth of his true existence by inquiring “what is mind?” and “what is substance of the mind?” and move forward.

The ultimate truth is one without the second, the one is not in the sense half or two, but the one that remain forever One, without the second.  The consciousness is all pervading. There is no place where consciousness is not.
Consciousness is in everyone, consciousness is in everything .consciousness is one behind many. Consciousness alone is. It means the universe and its contents are the visible form of consciousness. And consciousness in turn is invisible form of the universe, which appears as mind.
