The words and thoughts are mere tools to move towards non-dual reality.

One must be desirous of knowing the ultimate truth, consider the ultimate truth as means to freedom. Truth is the most distasteful, bitter and unpleasant thing; but there cannot be any question of “satisfactions” in truth.   Many think what they know is truth. But they never question or verify what they know is truth.  Imagination is not truth. 

Self-knowledge means realizing the non-dual nature of reality.  Sharpness is needed to grasp and assimilate the non-dual understanding. By perfect understanding one becomes aware of the fact that the soul, which is in the form of consciousness and the mind, which is in the form of universe are eternally not separate because the mind  is erupted from consciousness, sustained by consciousness and finally dissolves as consciousness. Therefore, the mind which is in the form of universe is mere division created out of consciousness.  The division is mere mirage from the ultimate point of view.    

Non-duality can be ascribed to the true Self or the Consciousness alone. It is not accessible to reason, for the ego-bound experience in the waking condition cannot step out of the duality of subject-object relationship."

Soul is in the form of Consciousness alone, is real and eternal. And consciousness is ultimate truth.  The mind, which is in the form of universe, is mere   illusory appearance and it is impermanent. The Self is nothing but consciousness, which is ultimate truth."

The names and forms are present only in duality. The duality is mere mirage on the ultimate standpoint. Therefore there is a need to know the ultimate end from where the duality, which is in the form of mind or universe, rises and subsides.  When the mind rises all the names and forms are present and when the mind subside all names and forms subsides. The knower of the mind or universe, which comes and goes, is apart and eternal. Thus the knower of the mind or universe is formless and nameless and apart and eternal. The mind or universe, which comes and goes, is impermanent. The formless witness of the mind or universe is real and eternal.  Thus there is a need to realize the existence of the formless witness apart from universe or mind, which appears as waking or dream and disappears as deep sleep. 

Whatever are named are part of the illusion because noting can be named in reality because there is no duality in reality. The non-duality is the source of the duality. Universe has a source and it has a no name."

Thus the non-dual nature of reality is recognized by identifying the source of the mind or universe. No name is the same name as that non-dual nature or eternal name. But the universe contains names and forms.  Until people recognize the nameless by giving it name as “I AM” it becomes impossible to cross the threshold of duality.    One can talk about non-dual reality with words, but one has to grasp its existence mentally because it exist prior to the appearance of the universe or mind.   The duality or universe emanates out of non-dual reality.

Until we discard the universe from its source mentally the reality will not be revealed.  Buddha kept silent when asked about the Ground of Being. Only his   Noble Silence would simply reflect one back upon his -self, challenging him to awaken in the moment, in the now, which is universe or waking experience. 

The words and thoughts are mere tools to move towards non-dual reality. Little use for words doesn’t precipitate or point to, awakening because words and thoughts are part of the duality, they ceases to exist in non-dual reality. Even logic must take a far, far, second place to the all-important task of a personal realization of the unborn, undying, pure wisdom source which is the birthright of everyone."

Seeker of truth should not to become attached to words as being in perfect conformity with meaning, because Truth is not in the letters. When a man with his finger-tip points to something, the finger-tip may be mistaken for the thing pointed at; in like manner the ignorant, are unable even to the day of their death to abandon the idea that in the finger-tip of words there is the meaning itself. They cannot realize Ultimate Reality because of their intent clinging to words which were intended to be no more than a pointing finger. Words and their discrimination bind one to the duality or birth, life and death; meaning stands alone and is a guide to non-dual freedom. Meaning is attained by much learning, and much learning is attained by becoming conversant with meaning and not with words; therefore, seekers of truth have to avoid the sticklers for particular words."

Consciousness without division is Ultimate Reality defies all description or characterization." "All characterizations of consciousness, in short, are intended in their experiential dimension to aid those who are searching for ultimate truth or reality but have not yet realized it."

"Human language has its source in phenomenal experience; hence, it is limited in its application to states of being that are beyond that experience; logic is grounded in the duality as it relates to the phenomenal order; hence, it is unable to affirm, without at the same time denying, what extends beyond that order." Whatever is expressed is ultimately non-Brahman, is ultimately untrue."

Inquiry, analysis and reasoning is necessarily to reach the wordless reality, one must place himself in the source the mind or universe to realize the all the thoughts and words are part of the mirage hence I they are meaningless on the standpoint of the source which is consciousness.  Once one is able to view on the standpoint of the source of the mind the words, thoughts and experience becomes, meaningless and lifeless because there is no division in the consciousness only oneness. 

One has to understand the without the mind there is no universe. Without the universe there is individual experience. Without the individual experience there is no duality. Without the duality there are no thoughts and words. Without the thoughts there is no separation. Without the separation there is no illusion. Without the illusion there is no ignorance. Without the ignorance there is no urge for wisdom. Without the wisdom there is no reality. Without knowing the reality there is no non-duality. 

All the words are having the meaning within the illusory world. If there is no words and thoughts then there is in division. When there is no division then there is duality. When the there is no duality then there is oneness.  Thoughts and words are present only in waking or dream. Waking experience is parallel dream and dream is parallel waking experience. Waking experience is parallel dream. The experience birth, life, death and the universe within the waking experience is mere mirage on the ultimate stand point because the self is neither the waking entity nor the dream entity, but the self is the formless substance and witness of the mind, which is in the form of waking or dream which comes and goes. 

Thus, the words and thoughts have their value within the false experience of waking or dream. When one becomes aware of the false hood of this waking or dream by becoming aware of the true self, which is consciousness, the awakening happens and one becomes aware of the fact that, the forms and names thoughts and words are mere mirage created out of consciousness. Thus the all the experiences of the three states are mere mirage created out of single substance, which is consciousness.  Thus consciousness alone is real and eternal. Consciousness alone is ultimate truth, which is identified as God/ Brahman/Buddha/Christ/Allah. Thus the universe, which is in the form of mind emanate out of consciousness, sustained by consciousness and finally dissolves as consciousness.    

People read so much, hoping to have an inkling of Truth, but more they read the more Truth recedes from our ken. All the philosophies are all useless in the quest of truth. Philosophers differ among themselves.   Therefore one has to trace the source of the mind mentally and realize the fact that the source itself is the self, which is in the form of consciousness.

The one who thinks himself as guru and the one who thinks himself as chela [disciple] will not be able get Self-Knowledge because both of them accepted themselves as body

When one realizes fact that, self is not form (body or ego) but formless (consciousness), then whatever believed and worshiped as god has no value.  Whatever known, seen, believed and experienced as person is part of the mirage, which appears as universe or mind.  On the ultimate standpoint the consciousness alone exists therefore the individual gods are non-exiting in reality.  Thus, the universe is unreal and consciousness alone is real, because the universe is mere mirage created out of consciousness on the standpoint of consciousness as self.    

Religious or yogic gurus propagate once a seeker identifies a Guru, he must totally surrender to the Guru and then from there onwards, the spiritual journey is fully the Guru's responsibility, not his... Hence the importance to choosing the right Guru is necessary but in pursuit of truth the guru is not necessary, because the truth is not theoretical.  Truth has to be ascertained by the seeker on his own through a well-directed inquiry, analysis and reasoning based on the true self will lead the seeker to his destination.  

People who worship the guru as God in human form and there is a danger that they might establish a regular religious sect in his name.  This is an unhappy development of the religious movement. 

It is better to take guidance from a Gnani and try to attain the same realization which he had, rather than spend their energies in deifying him. Let us remember that to deify a Gnani is to defy wisdom” 

Hindu religious literature is full of such aphorisms as ' there is no higher deity than the Guru; the Guru is the ultimate Truth and Deity God and  Avatars (incarnations) are secondary to the Guru in importance ;there is no higher refuge, no higher target, no higher destination than the Guru ; the Guru is God Himself ; God and the Guru are one ; he who makes a  distinction between the Guru and God is ignorant and stupid ; and scores of  similar others. They abound both in Sanskrit and in modern Indian languages.

People born in the different sect and they remain as its follower. Most of the sect are founded by some gurus, thus Indian belief system is a Guru Cult, i.e. believes in the worship of the Guru as the Supreme Deity.

When a seeker could not get full enlightenment from his inherited belief system, then only he searches elsewhere. And tries to get enlightened himself further to clear the cobwebs of his understanding and seeks guidance to his progress.

The path of religion, path of yoga and the path of wisdom were intended for different classes of people. The wisdom is for the advanced seekers of truth. It deals with the nature of the ultimate Truth and Reality. It is meant for superior aspirants who have inner urge to know the truth and it is not for those who are immersed in earthly desires. 

Katha Upanishad:-

 This Atman cannot be attained by the study of the Vedas, or by intelligence, or by much hearing of sacred books. It is attained by him alone whom It chooses. To such a one Ataman reveals Its own form. (Katha Upanishad Ch-II -23-P-20)

Mundaka Upanishad  :-

This Atman cannot be attained through study of the Vedas, nor through intelligence, nor through much learning. He who chooses Atman—by him alone is Atman attained. It is Atman that reveals to the seeker Its true nature.  (3 –page-70 Mundaka Upanishad  Upanishads by Nikilanada)

When the Upanishad says:  the human goal is to acquire Self-Knowledge and they indicate the personal gods, scriptures, worship and rituals are not the means to Self –Knowledge, then why anyone should indulge in it. The religion, concept of individualized god and scriptures are greatest obstacle to realize non-dual truth or self-realization, because they are based on false self.   Therefore, one has to search the ultimate truth without losing himself in the labyrinths of philosophy, he should indulge in deeper, inquiry, analysis and reasoning and assimilate and realize it.  

Seekers goal is towards Self-knowledge and noting other then it. Therefore, guru is needed in religious and yogic paths which are meant for the people who are not searching for truth but they are searching for worldly comforts and temporary peace in this physical existence.  They fear of losing their physical identity and all that is connected to the physical identity. When one realizes the physical identity (ego) is false self and the true identity is the soul, which is in the form consciousness, then he realizes that the fear factor is limited to the false self within the false experience. When the self is not physical all the burden and bondage of the duality is mere mirage created out of consciousness. 

Therefore, Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana  is necessary to know the fact that, the universe, which appears is in the form of mind and disappears as nothingness (formless) is   mere mirage created out of nothingness, which is consciousness.  Thus the consciousness is the source and witness of the universe or mind, which comes and goes.  Thus it is necessary to know the formless witness of the three states in order to know the fact that, the true self is apart and  free from the mirage ,which is in the form of birth, life, death and the universe.  Therefore, it is necessary for the seeker to make sure how the three states are mirage. 

The body and the world are reality within the waking experience but the waking experience is mere illusion same way as the dream body and the dream world were reality within the dream. The dream becomes unreal when the waking takes place; similarly the waking experience becomes unreal when the non-dual wisdom dawns.  

The one who thinks himself as guru and the one who thinks himself as chela (disciple)will not be able get Self-Knowledge because both of them accepted themselves as body. And all their understanding, practices, knowledge are based on the false self.  Therefore, the Guru –Shisya concept is a great obstacle in pursuit of truth.  That is why Sri, Ramana Maharshi never accepted himself as guru or accepted any one as his disciple because he was fully immersed in his true self, which is formless consciousness.   

Thus by Surrendering to any guru or god men is not the means to self-knowledge.  The self is the true guru. Seeker has to surrender to the self by realizng the fact that the self is not physical. By realizing the self is not physical one becomes all the accumulated knowledge and inherited conditioning in the midst of duality and he finds freedom from experiencing the duality (waking)as reality. 

There is no fear of losing anything because only ignorance vanishes and one becomes fully aware what is real and what is unreal in the midst of the unreal waking experience.   

This will ensure that one has reached the right path of progress and will eventually get the knowledge of the true self.  A true seeker should seek only truth nothing but truth, his sincerity and urge to know the truth will lead him, not his mental decisions. 

If one takes the religious based non-dual path or yogic path, then the seeking is not spiritual but rather superficially mental for academic and self-aggrandising pursuits driven by the ego. There can be no two thoughts about it.

The path of wisdom needs a deep study of the mind and its substance, so one can resolve the conflicts that a seeking mind has. Such deeper leads on towards better grasping, understanding, assimilation and realization. Only if one has proper grasping he can have proper understanding.

They alone in this world are endowed with the highest wisdom who are firm in their conviction of the sameness and birthlessness of Atman. The ordinary man does not understand their way. [Chapter IV — Alatasanti Prakarana 95-P-188 in Upanishads by Nikilanada]

This passage indicates the fact that everything is Atman/spirit. The one who views and judges the worldview on the base of his birth /body will not realize the fact that, the man including the world is created sustained and finally dissolves as Atman. Thus Atman alone is, and all else is mirage. 

Thus self-knowledge  or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is the aim of every human being. Since everyone thinks the physical body is the self their aim is misdirected and they focus their attention on materiality which makes one feel the duality [waking] as reality.

Nisagadutta said:  Millions are in search of the ultimate truth, and only one in million will be able to grasp and realize it. By focusing more attention on Atman by talking, writing, discussing only of Atman, the conviction grows and becomes firmer and the duality will fade away as reality. Atman/sprit which is one’s   true identity will prevail as birth-less and deathless, eternal substance and witness of the mirage called duality. 

Therefore there is no need to study scriptures, or indulge in god and guru glorification or performing religious rituals.  Since, they are not the means to acquire non-dual wisdom. It is only waste of time and effort to indulge in those things. 

The individual self is not real, is not accepted by many.  The nondual wisdom is based not on the individual self [ego].  Until people hold the ‘I’ [ego] as witness, they will not reach the ultimate understanding.  

When Upanishad itself declares:-   sarvam khalvidam brahma - all this (universe) is verily Brahman. By following back all of the relative appearances in the world, we eventually return to that from which it is all manifest – the non-dual reality [ Chandogya Upanishad].  

Then it is no use going roundabout way, trace the Brahman which is the formless substance and witness of the universe, which is in the form of mind.  By tracing the source of the mind or universe one will be able to realize the Brahman. 

The true Self is not perceptible to the senses. It is perceived by Reason. It is not perceptible as a thing with form and attributes. To those whose attention is fixed on the body and the world, it is very difficult to attain Self-knowledge. It is also very difficult for them to see the Atman as self. The attention towards the universe (mind) should be lessened by realizing the self is not the body. The attention has to be focused on the formless substance and witness of the universe [mind] should be increased. So long as the attention is directed towards the universe, the experience of birth, life and death will prevail as reality. But when the attention is directed towards the formless witness, the ignorance vanishes and sense of duality will disappear. Then there is unity in diversity. 

What is the state of the ego or physical self when it has realized that the self is not the body? Such souls have attained their pristine condition. “Self” is not visible to the physical eyes. “Self” is not to be found in the world as a thing, entity or an object. Self is above these, has neither beginning nor ending.

A visible object has a beginning and an ending. Since Atman, which is in the form of consciousness is invisible to the physical eye; Atman or consciousness is without beginning and ending. Atman is always constant. Just as space is homogeneous everywhere, so is the Atman the same everywhere.

Consciousness is like ocean and all the three states are like a wave

Consciousness is like ocean and all the three states are like a wave. The consciousness is the subject the three states are an object to the formless subject. It is neither to be renounced nor to be accepted or destroyed.   The seeker has to realize the soul [consciousness] and the mind [universe] are one is their essence, same way as the ocean and wave are one its substance.   This can be grasped only when one rectifies his reasoning base from form to formless. 

An intense desire for truth -realization is itself the way to it. The Lord is the inner most  Self,which is in the form of consciousness  in Advaita. Therefore, one need not accept anything other than the self, which is consciousness. Thus consciousness alone is ultimate truth or Brahman that is free from falsehood.

 Advita[non-duality]  and dwith[duality]  is  state of  the self. It is not some intellectual theory. Religious based Advitins believe the Atman [soul] is Brahman; and the world is illusion. Religious dwitins believes the body as self, and they believe world is reality, and they believe in creator and creation theory.   In India Adivita and Dwaith is mere a religious tradition, which they inherited from their ancestors. No one questions their validity, because it is considered blasphemy to question any guru and god-men or pundiths. 

 People who are attached to their religious  code of conduct and trying to preach Advita , that is mixing the individual life, and concept of god, and all mixed up hotchpotch  religious doctrine and feed the seeking minds, are themselves not aware of the fact that  the individuality,  and the worldly life is part of the illusion.

Buddha must have verified religion, Vedas and concept of god and found them inadequate and useless in pursuit of truth and rejected them and he got enlightened without the aid of religion, Vedas and concept of god.  

 After studying and going through all the rigorous training from the religious scholars in Theosophical Society, J.K was confused about all these, and when he started verifying with deeper introspection, he found everything was priest-crafted hotchpotch ideologies. Thus, he refused to become the world guru, rejected it, and walked out and condemned the priest craft.    There is no need to condemn priest craft because it is meant for those who are not seeking truth. 

In Advith they accept karma theory.  If they accept the karma theory, one will not be able to reach the nondual destination. If one accepts karma theory then it is impossible to treat the world as illusion. All the pundits’ explanation of karma theory carries no weight on realm of truth because if karma is accepted they are accepting the false self [ego or body] as true self and false experience [universe or waking] as reality. 

The birth, life and death are part of the waking experience, which is mere illusion on the standpoint of the true self.  It is no use of saying that, we are not born, we do not die because, because we all were born and we all are going to die. However, the birth, life and death are part of the illusion, which comes and goes as waking experience.  The formless witness of the three states is real, which is our identity has no birth and death. That is why self-knowledge is nothing to do with the religious based Advith, which is based on Vedas. 

  A Gnani will never say we are not born; we are not going to die.   Only to the mediocre who nod their head, he will say this to inspire them to think of the formless true identity, which is birth less, deathless.   Thus, it is wrong to say we are not born and we do not die by limiting the self to the physical entity.  If one limits the self to the physical entity alone, one gets only half-truth.  The consciousness, which is the true self, pervades all the three states, as their formless substance and witness.  The formless substance and witness, which is our true self [true identity]. Without knowing the true self-mere saying, we are not born, we do not die is not the knowledge, which has come from depth, it is mere bookish knowledge.

 When Sri,Sankara says: world is unreal . He never said body is unreal. He would have said only birth and death is   unreal but he did not say that, he said the world is unreal.   He meant   the world including the body, because the body and world appear together and disappear together [waking/dream].  Then we have to think, what remain without the body and the world as reality. How can the birth, life, death, rebirth, and reincarnation, which take place in unreal world [waking/dream], can be true.   The one, which is aware of the birth, life death, rebirth and reincarnation [illusion/unreal], is formless reality, which is the true self/true identity.  The formless self is your true identity, which is birthless and deathless but it is the witness of the birth, life and death and rebirth [illusion/unreal].

 On the standpoint of identity the birth, life, death, rebirth and reincarnation theory is part of the illusion/unreal.  The body cannot reincarnate, the body and the world are created out of the same formless stuff. Until one views and judges on the base of flesh, bone and blood [five elements], he will not be able to grasp the non-dual truth.  Thus, one must know on what standpoint we are not born and we do not die thoroughly, just by hearsay views, it will not lead anyone to the non-dual destination. 

Seeker has to learn to view and judge on the standpoint of FW/soul/self, only  then he will be never having any confusion.  When one thinks deeply then only the inner revelation starts and start burning the dross [confusion/doubts]. Deeper inquiry and sound reasoning will help the seeker to discriminate between what is real and what is unreal.  It will start yielding fruits and start revealing, when he starts thinking very deeply.  This is the inner process every serious seeker experiences.  The inner dialogue will start and he will start getting answers from inner core of his existence. 

The scriptures, yoga are not necessary if one follows the inner [formless] path.

Those who realize the fact that, the Self is not physical [form] but the self is consciousness [formless] enter into the realm of non-dual tranquility. They are fully aware of the fact that, the consciousness is the true self and it pervades everywhere and in everything in the universe, which is in the form of the mind. Thus the mind or universe is mere mirage created out of consciousness.   The mind or universe is myth on the standpoint of consciousness, which is the true self.  Whatever the mind or universe contains is myth.  Thus, the birth, life and death or pleasure and pain which are happenings within the mind or universe are myth.   Thus judging the truth on the base of the physical self /ego is erroneous.  

The gross universe is merged into the mental universe in the sense that when it is analyzed, it is found to exist inseparably in and as the mind alone. All "spiritual" planes are really mental: those who regard them as different or higher will remain ignorant. 

A Gnani is free from experiencing the illusion [body + universe] as reality, he is fully aware of the fact that, his body and his experience of the world as consciousness, which is ultimate truth.  

People who are incapable to inquire and reason are tending to follow some philosophy without verification. Therefore the more ignorant they are the easier to get them into a religious fold. Religion is so strong and popular because it makes no demand on the intelligent: It simply requires belief in guru and his teachings. 

It never strikes believer to doubt whether his inherited belief system is true. They never use their reason because they start and conclude that their belief system   alone is true, because they never question. 

Theological philosophers say God is a perfect being, but they have never known God, never proved his existence; their idea of god is based on their belief and assumption.   Hence their ascription of perfection to Him is purely self-imagined or assumed. 

The scholastic or mystic argument is endless. If one says "God is formless” another will say, "No, God has attributes! If one says "his religion is higher" another will reply, "No, it is lower." It is impossible to get anywhere with such talk because both sides are merely imagining because they think on the base of the false self and false experience. When the self is not physical then whatever seen, known, believed and experienced as person is bound to be falsehood because all these ideas are imagined and assumed within the illusion.   Therefore, there is need to know the fact that, the self is formless. Whatever is based self as a form is bound to be falsehood.   

The paradise or heavens and hell are mere religious injected imagination.  When the self is formless then the experience of birth, life death and the universe are mere mirage created out of consciousness.  But where people have got a little thinking capacity, they begin to disbelieve through the contradictions of various contending orthodox claims and descriptions. 

For religion one can interpret texts as he likes, in whatever way that pleases him, he simply imagine away.  The idea of god injected in the past and inherited by people and they refuse to verify the facts because they think it blasphemy even to question their inherited belief system.  

In pursuit of truth the ultimate truth has to be proved, not assumed. Pundits who take scriptures for granted are not Gnanis. 

Pundits teach that all is your-self, but none of them can show that this is so, none has analyzed it scientifically, and none can prove it. Rational proof is needed, so that one arrive at knowing truth i.e. wisdom; punditry is mere dogma, parrotism, repetition of what they read in scripture. Scriptures are not yardstick and scriptural truth is not proof.   Pundits take scriptures as authority.   Authoritarianism merely assumes as true what another says, but what has yet to be proved. 

Pundits have to test truth in this world not in the next world.  There is no proof other than blind belief based on the scriptures, belief is not truth.  So, doctrines are not the means to realize the ultimate truth. There is no need to follow them. 

Doubts and Confusions arise when seeker finds the scriptures and yoga are inadequate or useless to quench his spiritual thirst.   Disappointments in religion or yoga or even science imply error or ignorance. Seeker reaches a stage whether he is right?" Where is the certainty that he is proceeding on right lines?" Thus doubts arise and the inquiring spirit comes and impels to search elsewhere for truth where it will not be possible even to have doubt. The test is therefore in experience. And only in non-duality, where there are no two to argue about views or to have difference of opinion can such doubtlessness be possible.  Belief depends upon unstable bases whereas certainty depends on proof. 

Seeker of truth has to get rid of his doubts through deeper inquiry, analysis and reasoning on his own, to realize the fact that, the self is not the form but self is formless. Thus his analysis and reasoning has to be based on the formless not on the form.  By simply go on believing and accepting whatever said by the punditry will not lead one towards path of wisdom. All the doubt has to be got rid of "by the sword of Self - Knowledge."  The scriptures, yoga are not necessary if one follows the inner [formless] path.  Religion and yoga are not the means to path of wisdom.

I wish to thank you for such a detailed explanation. The manner in which you have detailed about formless consciousness is indeed very enlightening. I know about advaita and i am aware about formlesss consciousness.

I follow the method of intuitive wisdom. Scriptures are just like the signposts, they only direct you to the truth. You still have to make the journey to arrive at the truth.

I would like to rephrase the question that the questioner has asked. The questioner had asked "Why do things exist?" and i would ask "Why does Consciousness exist?". I feel that both the questions are pretty much the same.

I will be happy to know about what you think about this.

Only in Ajnana or ignorance such question arises.  For one who is aware of the fact that, the self is not physical but the self is formless and he is able to view and judge the three states on the standpoint of the formless self, such question will not arise.  It is same like wave asking the sea, why it exists.   Consciousness is the cause of everything that exists, and it itself is uncaused.    

  Until one is in the realm of duality he is in the grip of intellectuality based on the form. And he views and judges the worldview on base of ego, which is false self.  In the realm of duality one is always in confusion and he is trying to assimilate without being aware of the fact that, the self exists prior to the experience of birth, life, death and universe. 

Things exist because of ignorance of the true self.  When there is no ignorance then there is no second thing exit other than the consciousness. Consciousness is the basis of the mirage [three states.  The ultimate truth is indescribable by word.  The words are mere indicators in duality.   Though the universe or mind appears different from the soul or consciousness in essence they are one.  

Even in the midst of waking experience, a Gnani do not find any duality for he knows everything is consciousness

Scriptures are of value only when dealing with persons who are incapable of understanding truth. They have no value as authority for those who use reason.

The scriptures are for ignorant masses, who wholly accept the material world as it presents itself. Non-dual wisdom is for those who have begun to realize that things are not what they seem.

Intuition revelation is not always correct. Although they reveal without any process of thought to mark the intervening stages, still they are ideas, mental phenomena in their full nature.  Until it revels from subject point [soul] of view, the object [universe] will prevail as reality.

Scriptures are self-contradictory. Many scholars even give conflicting interpretations of them. Common-sense says that the final authority therefore is using our own reason. This does not mean one need to give up the scriptures, but he should apply his reason to them. Reason is common to all, whereas religions are separatist.

Without knowing the nature of the universe, it is impossible to know truth. What is the use of trying to find our inner self before we understand the universe? The consciousness pervades the whole universe, thus the self is not limited to the individual but to the whole   universe which confronts us.

We cannot live without the physical universe; it is the basis of our life, so it must be the starting point of our self-search.
