Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is declared by the Indian sages in the past has to be mentally excavated from labyrinths of philosophy

The Self –Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is goal of the true seeker.  Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is end of all egocentric knowledge.

Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is declared by the Indian sages in the past has to be mentally excavated from labyrinths of philosophy. So many conceptual divisions invented by teachers of philosophy by their excessive analysis and different idea of truth and interpretations. All these concepts and ideas are never ending process.

The seeker of truth need not take the path of doubt and confusion, which takes him nowhere.  Fortunate is the seeker who does not lose himself in the labyrinths of these theoretical philosophies.  By perfect understanding of ‘what is what’ leads to non-dual self-awareness.

Seeker has to behave in a   normal and sane way and silently reflect on the subject constantly.

There is no body and no world in realm of truth because the body and the world are one in essence. That essence is consciousness.

The one who has the firm conviction that, he is an individual separate from the world and world existed prior to him and he is born in it afterwards is egocentric.  And he is unfit to grasp the ultimate truth or Brahman.

Seeker has to trace the source of the mind or universe to realize the fact that, mind and its formless substance and the source are one in essence.

The truth is hidden within the mind which is in the form of universe and it requires deeper self-search mental excavation, the removal of the ignorance, which is the cause of experiencing the illusion or duality as reality.

Grasping the transparent Truth of the self, which is hidden by illusion or waking or universe, is to be attained through soul-centric reasoning, followed by reflection, meditation and so forth, but not through perverted egocentric arguments.

People think self-knowledge is very difficult to achieve or understand. Self-knowledge which has to be acquired carefully and gradually, through inquiry analysis and reasoning on the true base.

In the past, spirituality was treated not as a separate subject but as a part of religion, but it is not so. Religion is based on the form and spirituality is based on formless. Therefore, spirituality is nothing to with religion.  Spirituality is a rational inquiry regarding all that is known to exist. Every one, each to the extent to which one's reasoning power admits, is by nature free to exercise this faculty, at whatever stage one may be. One is able to devote himself exclusively to a pursuit of the highest Truth, by means of reason.

In the ancient time, religious or  Yogic  or mystic discipline, which were not an end in itself, considered to be means for self-realization. But such discipline is almost impossible task for the modern man to adopt. Day by day modern man is becoming aware of the fact that religion and yoga are nothing to do with pursuit of truth. .

The modern mindset is pre-eminently scientific owing to the great progress that science has made. And the best method of freeing the one from his inaccurate ways of thinking is to imbue him as fully as possible with the scientific spirit. It is therefore only one who possesses a clear knowledge of its methods and results i.e., who is able to make reason the highest means of inquiry that would be fit for self-knowledge.

Vedanta itself admits its highest Truth that is Atman or Brahman cannot be reached by any path other than that of reason and unless the reason is sharper than the ‘Edge of a razor'.

Reason on the true base is the highest means of attaining self- knowledge.  Religion, theology, mystic practice and yoga are not the means to acquire non-dual wisdom.  Absence of reason is absence of wisdom.

Either the formless soul or self-witnesses the waking or dream or it does not see it at all.  It means the seer is apart from the waking or dream. When the formless witness witnesses nothing, one calls it deep sleep. Thus one has to become mentally aware of the existence of the formless witness of the three states, which is the formless soul, which is in the form of consciousness, to realize the fact that, there is no division. The whole experience of diversity (waking or dream) is mere mirage created out of single stuff, which is consciousness.

It is difficult to decide the truth on the waking entity, which is false entity within the false experience. Therefore, it is necessary to rectify one’s observing base from form to formless to grasp the non-dual truth. It takes time to make the faultless viewing and judging the worldview, but as one goes deeper reflecting on the formless witness (soul) as self, he reaches the faultless witnessing.

Theist Scholastic  explains non-duality:-

Duality and Non-duality

We live in a world of apparent duality. There is “I” and there are other people, objects, ideas and emotions. Time, space, causality and language all depend upon and relate to this world. Whilst every “thing” else changes, however, “I” who witnesses and knows all of these experiences remain the same.

This separation is grounded in our use of language. At the earliest age, we are taught to differentiate and “name” the things around us – “me”, the subject, and “something else”, the object. But these names are actually “attributes” and not things-in-themselves. We refer to a “golden ring” with “ring” as a separate noun but the ring is actually only a transient form of the gold – we should really call it “ringy gold.” Form is the “attribute” of the object and should be expressed as an adjective and not a noun.
But gold is only a particular and temporary configuration of protons, neutrons and electrons, so that it too is an adjective or attribute. Similarly, protons etc. are themselves made up of still smaller particles, called quarks. Ultimately, everything is only name and form of that fundamental reality which is changeless – the only noun which is not an attribute of something else.

There is a famous quotation in the Chandogya Upanishad - sarvam khalvidam brahma - all this (universe) is verily Brahman. By following back all of the relative appearances in the world, we eventually return to that from which it is all manifest – the non-dual reality.

The orthodoxy which is based on individual conduct is not the means to acquire self-knowledge or non-dual wisdom, because the self is not individual. The self is formless and it pervades in everything and everywhere in the universe.  Thus all this theoretical philosophy and theories based on the individual conduct are not the means to self –knowledge or Brahma Gnana.   Because the non-duality cannot be mixed with religion and yoga because in religion and yoga one has to accept blindly and there is no scope for inquiry.

Religion is based on ego, which is the false self within the false experience whereas the ultimate truth is based on the formless soul or consciousness, which is the innermost self.
The orthodox pundits say that Vedas as final authority for the Vedantins and he has nothing else to believe in it, they do not know the fact that they themselves are indulging in non-Vedic activities which Vedas clearly bars.

As one goes deeper in the annals of the history, it indicates the fact that somewhere someone has added the puranas in the name of Veda Vyasa the grand master of Vedas. It is impossible to accept and believe that Veda Vyasa authored and introduced the Puranas which has all conceptual gods because:-

In Vedas the God has been described as:-

             Sakshi (Witness)
             Chetan (conscious)
             Nirguna (Without form and properties).
             Nitya (eternal)
             Shuddha (pure)
             Buddha (omniscient)
             Mukta (unattached).

It clearly indicates all the gods with form and attributes are mere imagination based on the false self.  Thus there is adulteration and add-ons in the past, which has to be bifurcated if one wants pure Vedic essence.

In Yajurved says:-
Translation 1.
They enter darkness, those who worship natural things (for example air, water, sun, moon, animals, fire, stone, etc).

They sink deeper in darkness those who worship sambhuti. (Sambhuti means created things, for example table, chair, idol etc.)
[Yajurved 40:9]

Translation 2.
"Deep into shade of blinding gloom fall asambhuti's worshippers. They sink to darkness deeper yet who on sambhuti are intent."
[Yajurveda Samhita by Ralph T. H. Giffith pg 538]

Translation 3.
"They are enveloped in darkness, in other words, are steeped in ignorance and sunk in the greatest depths of misery who worship the uncreated, eternal prakrti -- the material cause of the world -- in place of the All-pervading God, But those who worship visible things born of the prakrti, such as the earth, trees, bodies (human and the like) in place of God are enveloped in still greater darkness, in other words, they are extremely foolish, fall into an awful hell of pain and sorrow, and suffer terribly for a long time."
[Yajur Veda 40:9.]

So, Yajur Veda indicates that:-
They sink deeper in darkness those who worship sambhuti. (Sambhuti means created things, for example table, chair, idol etc [Yajurved 40:9]

Those who worship visible things born of the prakrti, such as the earth, trees, bodies (human and the like) in place of God are enveloped in still greater darkness, in other words, they are extremely foolish, fall into an awful hell of pain and sorrow, and suffer terribly for a long time." [Yajur Veda 40:9.]

When the religion of the Veda knows no idols then why so many gods and goddesses with different form and name are being propagated as Vedic gods. Why these conceptual gods are introduced when Vedic concept of god is free from form and attributes.

Who introduced concept of god with attributes and attributeless gods, when Yajur Veda says: -   those who worship visible things, born of the prakrti, such as the earth, trees, bodies (human and the like), in place of God are enveloped in still greater darkness. Therefore, all these add-ons proves that the form and attribute based concepts are introduced by some sages of the past with new belief system and code of conducts in the name of Vedas.

Sruti is made the final or exclusive authority in apara Vidya and that for supporting the tenet of the CAUSAL relation or creatorship of Brahman, Nirguna Brahman = the "Absolute beyond qualities," which can be defined only in a negative way. For the Shankarian school = the Ultimate Reality, higher than the Lord. i.e. of Saguna or apara Brahman ... The support of Scriptural Revelation is, therefore, absolutely necessary for this hypothesis of cosmology, this Saguna or apara (= inferior) Brahman, but not for the absolute truth of Nirguna Brahman.  The Sruti itself says: "This Atma is NOT to be attained by a study of the Vedas.  [Katha Upanishad I, 2, 23.]

Therefore, all the add-ons and attribute based knowledge, which are inferior, have to be bifurcated and excluded to know the ultimate truth.  The seeker of truth has to drop all the inferior knowledge based on the attributes and go beyond Vedas to understand assimilate and realize the ultimate truth or Brahman.

One has to go beyond Vedas means go beyond religion. Go beyond religion means, go beyond concept of god.  Thus, going beyond Veda, religion and conceptual god means going beyond illusion.   That is end of Vedas [Veda –antha]

When one goes into the annals of the history it looks like the true Advith expounded by Sri Sankara and his param guru, Goudpada was lost or mutilated by the orthodox, because the preaching and practice does not match.

It is necessary for the seeker to do his homework, and verify the validity of all the claims, rather than blindly believe, what others expound as knowledge, till, the un-contradicted truth is obtained.

The seeker must have the courage of Buddha to accept the truth and reject the untruth. Since Buddha rejected religion, idea of god and scriptures, therefore, it is evident that, he has gone through every aspect and verified and found them to be inadequate and useless for the pursuit of truth.

Even Buddhism is mixed up with regional culture and traditions of the local religion, wherever it existed. Thus to get the full essence from Buddhism is very difficult.

The scriptures are for ignorant masses, who wholly accept the material world as it presents itself. Wisdom is for those who have begun to realize that things are not what they seem.

Each sect concocts a God to suit its own purposes.  Such concocted Gods have no value in pursuit of truth.  Man himself suggests that there must be a God. It is an auto-suggestion.
But as one goes deeper in self-search one becomes aware of the fact that, Vedas including Upanishads considered being supremely authoritative, as revealed truth.  But Upanishads clearly declares that:-

 Katha Upanishad delares:
This Atman cannot be attained by the study of the Vedas, or by intelligence, or by much hearing of sacred books. It is attained by him alone whom It chooses. To such a one Atman reveals Its own form. [Katha Upanishad Ch-II -23-P-20]

Mundaka Upanishad  :-
This Atman cannot be attained through study of the Vedas, nor through intelligence, nor through much learning. He who chooses Atman by him alone is Atman attained. It is Atman that reveals to the seeker Its true nature. [3 page70upanhsds by Nikilananda

It means the truth is beyond scriptures and egocentric intelligence.  Thus in order to grasp, assimilate and realize the non-dualistic truth the seeker to employ soul-centric reasoning faculty.

That is why Sage  Sri, Sankara says in commentary in Vedanta sutra that what is accepted without proper inquiry will not lead a person to the final goal. On the contrary, such acceptance will result only in evil, in something which is detrimental to our spiritual progress.   Seeker of truth should not believe blindly in traditional orthodox non-duality without verifying all the facts from every angle. One has to reflect through reasoning over and over again without getting tired of the process.

The existence beyond limitations of form, time and space is known as Moksha or Nirvana.

Second-hand knowledge of the self gathered from books or gurus can never emancipate a man until its truth is rightly investigated and applied; only direct realisation will do that. Realise yourself, turning the mind inward. – Tripura Rahasya, 18: 89

Are you in right path to acquire Advaitic or Non-dualistic wisdom?

In this Hi Fi world many self-declared Spiritual Gurus are born like mushroom amidst us and they are looked upon as great solace by the mass of gullible people, who are more ‘peace and wisdom hungry.  Most seekers are looking for something beyond their inherited belief system. Most of this dollar hungry gurus hankering after titles and honours and enjoying it like these modern day self-styled gurus and they are connected one or other controversies and scandals.

People get stuck with these modern self-proclaimed gurus who claimed to be enlightened.  Many of these Gurus have taken many new “avatars” like Corporate Gurus, Universal Gurus, online Gurus, Global Gurus, one name it, he will find  them. The honest gurus and swamis never come to limelight and they remain minding their own inherited divine business remains aloof from the publicity.

There are so many   gurus who have overnight become Global Gurus. They only play with the feelings of people. Most of them are propagating ancient yogic practices as if it is their own great new invention and branding them or getting them patented,   this is the height of the mockery of spirituality. As long as innocent and ignorant people are there, these kinds of Gurus can flourish their business to a peak height. They cannot only fool the mass of people but also the people at political power.

Religion needs a guru to propagate its belief system, whereas in pursuit of truth there is no need for a guru. The ultimate truth has to be ascertained by him alone.  Yoga needs guru to guide its student to practice Samadhi.

Religion encourages one  who can induce himself to feel convinced that he has realized the Self, or has  an admirer who believes that he has done so, the it  opens up for  him the way for the founding of a new sect based on Guru-worship. People, too, have developed curious credulousness. Often they would install an earnest seeker and devotee, or a pious saint, on the throne of God and begin to offer him worship and homage even if he protested and resisted such acts. They would lay prostrate, sing hymns, wave lights (arati) and burn incense before him, and present to him food which was to be returned by him as prasada, wash his toes and sip the wash. At times the disciple would go to the length of getting food, fruit or a betel-nut leaf chewed by him, and taking the morsel back from it.

They would place his photo in the private temples of their homes and perform all these rites and ceremonies which are usually offered to temple-idols.  In this way there might be at present in our country scores of individuals who are worshipped as living God, with a following varying in numbers.

If one is seeking truth one has to drop all religious based dogmas and blind beliefs ritualistic baggage and move forward in their pursuit of truth.

Chandogya Upanishads says  :-

This universe comes forth from Brahman and will return to Brahman. Verily, all is Brahman. A person is what his deep desire is. It is our deepest desire in this life that shapes the life to come. So let us direct our deepest desires to realize the Self.

If one is seeking truth then it is necessary to bifurcate and drop the traditional Advaitic path which is not the means to self-knowledge and move ahead without the traditional baggage to get direct realization on his own as suggest by the great sages.

Thus seeker of truth has to know what this universe? What is this ultimate truth or Brahman?  in order to realize the non-dualistic or Advaitic truth?

No one can escape the waking experience which is the very basis of the physical existence. What was the waking experience before it appeared? Was their existence before the appearance of the waking experience?  When the waking perishes, does the soul or consciousness survive alone?  Is there a self or soul?  The seeker has to find answers for all these doubts in order to realize ‘what is truth’ and ‘what is untruth’.

As one goes deeper in self-search one becomes aware of the fact that the self is neither the waking entity not self is the dream entity but self is formless substance and witness of the three states. And the formless substance and witness of the three states are one in essence. And that essence is consciousness.  If the formless substance and witness are one in essence, than there is second thing can exist, other than consciousness?  Thus consciousness alone is real and all else is mere illusion created out of consciousness, which is the innermost self.

People who argue there is nothing beyond the universe; there is nothing other than the matter; that the body was the man; and death was end of all.  According to them there is no truth other than the practical life within the practical world, which they hold as reality. Their only agenda is as long as they live in the world live happily with all the pleasant things of life, who can demonstrate that there is something left after the physical death.  Beg, borrow or steal – but live happily is their mantra.

There are also people who believe strongly there was a sprit which defied the ravages of time, which cannot be confined in space; that sprit transcends the limits of this universe in which the body exists.

When one is bound by birth, life and death or form, time and space how can he decide what is truth without  deciding first,  whether the self is form or self is formless.  If the self is form than he has to decide ,judge and conclude  on the base of form but if the self is formless than he has to decide, Judge and conclude  on the base of the formless self.

The consciousness is the innermost self. And nature of the consciousness is formless and non-dual.  One should realize the consciousness as whole universe without parts.  To describe non-duality as a system is erroneous because the dual and non-dual is the nature of the self. Duality is illusory nature of the self and non-duality is real nature of the innermost self, which is consciousness.  Ultimate truth  cannot be confined into a narrow set of ideas.

Non-dualistic truth is supreme truth; all dualistic systems hold false self as real self and false experience as reality.  Non- dualistic wisdom is culmination of all systems including theistic non-duality.   The true non-dualist will not quarrel and argue with any theoretical philosophy because he is fully aware of the fact that, this orthodox theistic non-dualistic scholars or pundits like Dualist sages could not distinguish between ‘I’ and ‘formless witness.’ The 'I' was the witness. Their highest was the Jiva. One is so much attached to the 'I' that he do not want to think that 'I' does not exist. Again one is unable to detach the ‘I’ from the Real witness.

There is need to study the scriptures. One has to self-search the truth and realize it without the scriptures. And then when he reads the scriptures he becomes aware the scriptures are also saying the same thing but everything is misinterpreted.

That is why Sri, Sankara says in VivekaChudamani   :-

58. Loud speech consisting of a shower of words, the skill in expounding the Scriptures, and likewise erudition - these merely bring on a little personal enjoyment to the scholar, but are no good for Liberation.

59. The study of the Scriptures is useless so long as the highest Truth is unknown, and it is equally useless when the highest Truth has already been known.

60. The Scriptures consisting of many words are a dense forest which merely causes the mind to ramble. Hence men of wisdom should earnestly set about knowing the true nature of the Self.

61. For one who has been bitten by the serpent of Ignorance, the only remedy is the knowledge of Brahman. Of what avail are the Vedas and (other) Scriptures, Mantras (sacred formulae) and medicines to such a one?

62. A disease does not leave off if one simply utter the name of the medicine, without taking it; (similarly) without direct realisation one cannot be liberated by the mere utterance of the word Brahman.

There is nothing more rational, more intelligible and more un-dogmatic insights of Sri, Sankara, is to drop all the theistic non-duality or Advaita which is meant for those who are incapable and not receptive to realize the ultimate truth or Brahman.

If one merely theories, tries to understand through his intellect and there contended he cannot become a Gnani but he becomes a scholar or pundit.   Seeker of truth must make what he has understood and assimilated has to be  realized, to get firm conviction of the non- dualistic truth or ultimate truth or Brahman,   than only it is possible for him to transcend all the limitations of the experience of form, time and space.

The existence beyond limitations of form, time and space is known as Moksha or Nirvana. Spiritual freedom or self-realization is the goal of every seeker of truth.

The cycle of dual and nondual experiences.

To sleep is to surrender to the true self, which is the invisible substance and witness of the experience of duality.  The sleep gives the non-dual experience or experience-less state. Sleep is an inescapable need. There is no substitute for it.

All the three states being one of the most significant phenomena in the existence of the individual must be thoroughly analyzed and understood to unfold the mystery of the mind.

Any attempts to give an explanation of three states in purely psychological terms will be incomplete and misleading as well. Everyone consider the three states to be inevitably experience of the physical entity. And psychological inventions are based on physical self and they cannot transport the seeker beyond the physical barrier.

Scientists are searching the truth within the physical body, but they fail to understand they have to investigate the mind has to exist prior to the body, because a body cannot function on its own. From where they can get the mind, which does not exist in the physical body, but pervades the whole experience of diversity.  Therefore there is no way scientist can find the truth in laboratory inventions. The truth has to be got through deeper inquiry, reasoning and analysis on the true base. Thus until and unless the worldview is viewed and judged on the true base the truth will not be revealed.

Many authorities regard the three states as individual experience, and consider consciousness is the result of activating physical apparatus alone through external stimuli. The three states, in their opinion, is therefore a individual experience.

The essence of all these physiological explanation is that three states are of the physical body. This is radically wrong conclusion. A more profound investigation is required to unfold the mystery of the mind to realize the inner realities.

History speaks throughout the investigation in the past man limits his mind to physical apparatus is the main hurdle in pursuit of truth. Therefore it is necessary for the seeker of truth to investigate what is mind, before indulging in pursuit of truth.  Throughout the history one is conditioned to view and judge the worldview on the physical form as self, but self is prior the physical body and its experience of the world. Thus viewing and judging the truth on the base of physical form as self is erroneous. To get the truth of one’s own existence it is right thing to view and judge the worldview on the   formless entity, which is solely responsible for the existence of the experience of diversity.

The individualized viewing and judging the worldview is the hindrance in realizing the truth which lies beyond the mind.  The experience of diversity [I] disappears and reappears, but one is one is aware of appearance and disappearance of the three state in succession only in the waking experience. In dream there is unawareness of the waking experience. And in deep sleep there in unawareness of the waking and dream experiences. Thus one which is aware of these three states has to be present in all the three states. Therefore it has to be something which is apart from these thee states. Thus the invisible witness [knower] of these three states has to be traced mentally and grasped. This invisible witness itself is the true self. This invisible substance and witness is present as invisible substance of the three states.

Only when the witness is traced and realized as true self, the ignorance vanishes.  When the ignorance vanishes the duality vanishes. When the duality vanishes the experience of diversity is mere mirage.

The experience of diversity also evolves as self unfolds, the self becomes aware of its formless nondual nature   and remain conscious of its true nature even in midst of the experience of diversity. Remaining conscious of it true nature in the midst of the experience of diversity is wisdom.

Self knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana  is not merge in the nature and remaining in non duality. But in the midst of the experience of diversity being aware of the true self and realizing the fact that experience of diversity is mere mirage. Self is not a coincidental product of physiological process, but the very reason for the existence of experience of diversity.

Self is the standard by which the distinction between the three states should be understood. In experience of diversity [waking or dream] the person becomes conscious of him-self and perceives the world. In sleep the experience of diversity disappears.

Physiologically, the three states may be described as retarding and accelerating of higher brain centers, but they are more significantly defined as the submerging and emerging of the true self. In order to answer the basic question of why the self should oscillate between the quiescent state of sleep and active state of experience of diversity (Waking and dream),one must attack the primary origin of the mind(I or experience of diversity). Before the beginning of all the beginning, the state of formless and non-dual, the oblivion of the experience of diversity. Thus one easily conclude that, the one which is aware of its non-dual true nature and one is which is in oblivion of experience of diversity is formless entity.  Thus it is necessary to seek truth on the base of formless entity in order to unfold the mystery of the mind or ‘I’.

The utter and unrelieved oblivion of self forgetfulness the non-dual nature of self beyond state was broken in order that the self should consciously know itself, in the midst of the experience of diversity.

When the self remains in its non-dual true nature it is temporarily is free from the experience of diversity, which is identified as deep sleep. Because of the compulsion of conditioned mind set prevents man from grasping the truth of the reality of his own existence and subject him to increasing limitations and helplessness. Man is a spider caught in the web of duality due to the ignorance of the true self.

In the deep sleep state self becomes latent temporarily. Until one becomes aware of the true self consciously in the midst of the experience of diversity or death, the burden and bondage of experience of diversity is bound to be there. Becoming aware of the self in the midst of experience of diversity is self realization.   And knowledge of the true self is self –knowledge.

The conditioned mind set forces one to believe ‘I’ as true self, and remain in intoxication of the ‘I’ and waste the whole life time believing the ‘I’ as self. And all his seeking and practices is focused to free the ‘I’ from the experience of duality. How one can become free from experience of diversity (duality) when ‘I’ itself is the cause of duality. Without the ‘I’ there is no experience of duality. ‘I’, which appears and disappears, is causing the duality. Therefore it is erroneous to seek truth on base of ‘I’ which is not the self. Therefore it is necessary to know “What is ‘I’”, before indulging in the pursuit of truth.

In his desperate attempts during the Waking experience to overcome the duality, man attempt to escape himself through existing mindset. Although drowning himself in experiencing, the experience of diversity as reality and trying to get solace from religious and yogic and other theoretical methods which frees him temporarily, but he will nor escape from the burden and bondage of the experience of diversity, until and unless he becomes aware of the true fact that ‘I’ is not the self but ‘I’ is the whole experience of diversity. The whole experience of diversity in turn is mind. Thus it is necessary to understand the fact that mind is not limited to the physical entity, but mind is the whole experience of diversity. The invisible witness, which witnesses the appearance of disappearance of the ‘I’ is the true self. Therefore it is necessary to view and judge the worldview on the base the invisible witness in order to unfold the mystery of the mind.

As a man one identifies waking, dream and deep sleep states as human experience. But on the standpoint of the true self, all the three states are mere illusion. Until man becomes aware of the true- self ,he is bound to believe the three states as reality, and view and judge the worldview, on the base of ‘I’ as self. The ‘I’ disappears only when one views and judges the worldview on the base of true self.

When one seeks freedom from the ennul of the waking experience by loosing consciousness in the deep sleep experience, no slightest destruction of awareness occurs. Deep sleep is an experience-less awareness. Experience-less awareness is true nature of the self. Therefore consciously remaining in experience-less awareness by realizing the experience of diversity is mere mirage in the midst of experience of diversity will lead to awareness of the true self or Atman.

Deep-sleep is unconscious self awareness. To become aware of the true self it is possible only in Waking experience. Since only in waking one can speak of the deep sleep and dream experiences.  Only in waking experience the aspirant is able to find and realize the true self consciously.

Deep sleep is an unconscious withdrawal of the self, from experience of diversity into temporary oblivion. In this mind (I) is completely absent. And it is in the state of burden-less and bondage-less existence. That is free from birth, life and death or pleasure and pain. Deep Sleep is unconscious stillness of the mind (I). Consciously remaining stillness within the experience of diversity is possible only when one has the knowledge of the true self. When the self is conscious of itself the experience of diversity is mere mirage and it will be able to remain as witness of the mirage.

In deep sleep both the dual and non-dual experience is forgotten as self remains as mere witness of the appearance and disappearance of the three states. In deep sleep the true self exists as merely as a witness of the dual and non-dual experiences.

Sleep stands in the same relationship to the self as death does to life. In both death and sleep the experience of diversity is absent. Death is not annihilation of life but its transference to remain in the original non-dual nature of the self which is spirit or Atman. Sleep and death are unconscious transference to remain in non-dual nature of the self. Wisdom or self knowledge is consciously reaming in the nature of the self and witnessing the birth, life and death as mere illusion.

When the self is not physical, but the self is formless consciousness, then the question of evolution does not arise.

When the self is not physical, but the self is formless consciousness, then the question of evolution does not arise. Only when one takes the physical apparatus as self, then this then the evolution theory is reality. The body and the world are with in the mind. The mind is illusion, on the standpoint of its formless substance, which is consciousness. Consciousness is the true self and
The truth is hidden within the illusion and it is without the illusion. When self is formless, then the body [brain] and the world are mere illusion. That is why the truth realization is possible only through perfect understanding and assimilation.
The reasoning base has to be rectified from form to formless in order to unfold the mystery of the mind or illusion. When self is not physical it is erroneous to judge and reason and conclude the truth on the base of ego, which is the false self within the false experience because it leads to intellectual speculations.

Why You Are Not Your Brain, and Other Lessons from the Biology of Consciousness
by :Alva Noë. Hill and Wang, 2009

Alva No, a University of California, Berkeley, philosopher and cognitive scientist, argues that after decades of concerted effort on the part of neuroscientists, psychologists and philosophers "only one proposition about how the brain makes us conscious ... has emerged unchallenged: we don't have a clue." The reason we have been unable to explain the neural basis of consciousness, he says, is that it does not take place in the brain. Consciousness is not something that happens inside us but something we achieve it is more like dancing than it is like the digestive process. To understand consciousness the fact that we think and feel and that a world shows up for us we need to look at a larger system of which the brain is only one element. Consciousness requires the joint operation of brain, body and world. "You are not your brain. The brain, rather, is part of what you are."
