Adyathmic Discussion:- 402 (scriptures are not necessary)




Trev Light Bown:-  Jnana or awareness without conceptual constructions is declared to be Brahman. This awareness is unborn, without sleep or dream, without name and form and is omniscient. When there are no thoughts about objects, awareness rests in itself and attains equanimity. This is called contactless concentration or asparsha yoga and even the yogis are afraid of it.[23]

“ That highest Bliss exists in one’s own Self. It is calm, identical with liberation, indescribable, and unborn. Since It is one with the unborn knowable (Brahman), the knowers of Brahman speak of It as the Omniscient. No Jiva (individual), whichever, is born. It has no cause (of birth). This is the highest Truth where nothing is born whatsoever. — Verse 3.47-48, Mandukya Karika.[21

Dear Trev Light Bown, The non-dualistic truth is a rational or scientific truth declared by Lord Buddha, Sage Sri, Gaudapada  and Sri, Sankara centuries back but unfortunately the original essence of the rational nonduality is lost mainly because adulteration with orthodoxy with so many new add-Onns from different saints and sages time to time.  It is very difficult bifurcate all the ad-onns. Thus it is better drop scriptures like Buddha and follow the path of reason.  

The seeker has first indulge in deeper self-search without scriptures and understand assimilate the truth independently to realize the real non-dualistic essence, which leads to self-awareness. Thus, independent thinking, reasoning and judgment is very much necessary in pursuit of truth. 
As one goes deeper and deeper in his self-search he realizes the Buddha was right in rejecting the religion and its concepts of god and scriptures.  Thus the wisdom will by following any scriptures or instruction given in the scriptures. Scriptures are mere sign posts. The seeker has to realize the truth without the scriptures. 
Self- Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is only is true knowledge and absence of duality is not Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.  Self -Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana  cannot destroy the world but it eliminates the ignorance and exposes the unreal nature of the mind or the universe.
Sage Sri Sankara, in Bhaja Govindam says: - (Jnana Viheena Sarva Mathena Bajathi na Muktim janma Shatena) - one without knowledge does not obtain liberation even in a hundred births, no matter which religious faith he follows.

Thus it proves that religion is not the means to self-knowledge.

Sage Sri, Sankara:- VC-56 - Neither by the practice of yoga nor philosophy, nor by good works nor by learning, does liberation come, but only through the realization that Atman and Brahman are one in no other way.

59. The study of the Scriptures is useless so long as the highest Truth is unknown, and it is equally useless when the highest Truth has already been known.

60. The Scriptures consisting of many words are a dense forest which merely causes the mind to ramble. Hence men of wisdom should earnestly set about knowing the true nature of the Self.
VC- 61. For one who has been bitten by the serpent of Ignorance, the only remedy is the knowledge of Brahman. Of what avail are the Vedas and (other) Scriptures, Mantras (sacred formulae) and medicines to such a one?

62. A disease does not leave off if one simply utters the name of the medicine, without taking it; (similarly) without direct realization one cannot be liberated by the mere utterance of the word Brahman.

63. Without causing the objective universe to vanish and without knowing the truth of the Self, how is one to achieve Liberation by the mere utterance of the word Brahman ? — It would result merely in an effort of speech.

65. As a treasure hidden underground requires (for its extraction) competent instruction, excavation, the removal of stones and other such things lying above it and (finally) grasping, but never comes out by being (merely) called out by name, so the transparent Truth of the self, which is hidden by Maya and its effects, is to be attained through the instructions of a knower of Brahman, followed by reflection, meditation and so forth, but not through perverted arguments.

66. Therefore the wise should, as in the case of disease and the like, personally strive by all the means in their power to be free from the bondage of repeated births and deaths.

All the accumulated knowledge from religion and yoga and paths and theories are are obstacles in unfolding the mystery of the mind.

Even Upanishad says:
Katha Upanishad:-  This Atman cannot be attained by the study of the Vedas, or by intelligence, or by much hearing of sacred books. It is attained by him alone whom It chooses. To such a one Atman reveals Its own form. (katha upanishad ch-ii -23-p-20)
Mundaka Upanishad:This Atman cannot be attained through the study of the Vedas, nor through intelligence, nor through much learning. He who chooses Ataman—by him alone is Ataman attained. It is Ataman that reveals to the seeker Its true nature. (3 –page-70

When the Upanishads say:- It is attained by him alone whom It chooses. To such a one Ataman reveals its own form.  Then what is the use of indulging through our intelligence or our accumulated knowledge, when one is not chosen by the self, which is the soul, which is in the form of consciousness.

The seeker has to verify and accept the truth and reject the untruth.   When Buddha verified Vedic religion, god and scriptures and found them they are not means for self-realization and rejected them. Then   he was on his own and found the truth through deeper reasoning and got enlightenment. Without being judgmental about your views, I am expressing my views derived from deeper self-search. 

Even in the Buddhism: - Buddhist teaching has itself become a kind of interactive and self-evolving process, much like its idea of pratityasamutpada. However, the end goal is still Nirvana, which is an experience ultimately beyond all concepts and language, even beyond the Buddhist teachings. In the end even the attachment to the Dharma, the Buddhist teaching, must be dropped like all other attachments. The tradition compares the teaching to a raft upon which one crosses a swift river to get to the other side; once one is on the far shore; there is no longer any need to carry the raft. The far shore is Nirvana, and it is also said that when one arrives, one can see quite clearly that there was never any river at all.
Non-Duality means not the non-existence of a second thing, but its nonexistence as other than consciousness. One must know it is of the same substance as the objects.
Non dual Truth is possible only in duality when the knower and a known both are present. Hence truth is one’s idea of a thing. Reality is the fact, the thing itself. Words are used for communication about the reality. Ultimate truth is beyond all doubt and contradiction. It is not assumption or idea but the Reality itself. Hence ultimate truth and ultimate reality are one and the same. 
The scriptures and theories and teaching based on the ego are not the yardstick. Using them as yardstick to understand and assimilate the truth will lead one to all doubts and confusion. The seeker of truth has to discover the truth on his own by inquiring “what is mind?” and “what is the substance of the mind?” and move forward.  

The ultimate truth is one without the second, the one is not in the sense half or two, but the one that remains forever One, without the second.  The consciousness is all pervading. Everything is Consciousness and consciousness is everything.

There is no man but the mind. There is no universe but mind. There is no god but mind. There is no waking but mind.  The man and his universe and his individual god and waking experience exist only when the mind exists. The mind exists because of ignorance. The ignorance is there until the illusion is experienced as reality.      The mind is a myth. The world is a myth the waking experience is a myth.  Deeper self-search reveals the fact that. The whole universe exists because of mind. Thus mind is universe. Mind is duality. Mind is waking. Therefore mind is not limited to man but mind is the whole universe. The formless substance and witness of the mind is consciousness.

Consciousness is that which knows everything, that which sees. Consciousness alone remains after one gets rid of all thoughts and ideas by identification with self. Consciousness is only the seer; it is not Brahman that is an error. It becomes Brahman only after an inquiry and reasoning.

Consciousness is in everyone, consciousness is in everything .Consciousness is one behind many. Consciousness alone is. It means the universe is the illusory form of consciousness.

Since not all people are aware of the fact that, they are an experience within another experience (waking or dream). The mind is an experience, which contains everyone and everything and the universe. Since one limits the mind to the physical entity, he forgets the fact that, his body and the universe are an experience, within waking or dream experience. It is impossible to unfold the mystery of his true existence without realizing the fact that, the self is not physical but the self is consciousness.   If the self is not physical then it is erroneous to judge and conclude the truth on the base of the physical self or ego. Thus the truth has to be judged on the base of the true self, which is consciousness. 

 Until and unless one rectifies the seeking base from form to formless the truth will not be revealed.
As one gets convinced, certain, of the truth that the world is nothing but consciousness, and there is no second thing, then he gets  firm conviction that, all the three states to be consciousness in the midst of duality.  Realizing the truth in the midst of duality is wisdom.
The seeker has to practice thinking that he is neither the doer nor the enjoyer and his existence as a person is limited to the waking experience.  Thus neither the waking entity nor the dream entity is the self.  The true self is that which witnesses the three states as a whole.  When he realizes the waking entity is not the self, then he will gradually realize the fact that, whatever is seen as waking or dream is only mirage created out of consciousness. Therefore when he realizes the waking experience is   the mirage then he realizes the stuff from the mirage is made, which is consciousness to be real. 
Nonduality does not need the support of any Scripture or Revelation like the Veda and Upanishads. Since it is based, not upon the varying theological fancies, which are as numerous as the sands of the sea, but upon reason, the common heritage of all mankind, irrespective of Colour or creed or clime.

Thus, self-knowledge is meant only for those who have intense urge, and courage to accept the truth with humility and reject the untruth. Since people start comparing with their scriptural knowledge, it becomes impossible to assimilate and realize the non-dual truth.   Therefore, there is no need to convince anyone other than our own-selves to get the firm conviction. 

 All my conviction derived from inner revelation. I am quoting scriptures to highlight they are also saying the same thing.    I am not trying to prove my conviction , but it is for every seeker who is in the path of truth to prove himself to know “What is truth, “and “What is untruth?” to assimilate the Self –knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana. 

Adyathmic Discussion-401 ( The universe will not vanish, when wisdom dawns)



Trev Light Bown :- "The universe will not vanish, when wisdom dawns, only the ignorance disappears and unreal nature of the universe or mind or waking is exposed, same way as the unreal nature of the dream exposed when waking takes place."

Ah so on awakening as Gnani the universe, world is still there as real as it was. But dreams always disappear. By calling everyday living as dream or illusion is wrong choice of words.

SK:- Gnana is possible only in the realm of duality. In Nonduality there is no second thing exists other than the soul or consciousness or spirit. Thus the seeker travels from ignorance to wisdom within the duality.   A Gnani is fully aware of the fact that, his body, his ego and his experience of the world as consciousness whereas the ignorant believes his body, his ego and his world as real thus he experiences the duality as reality.

The dream reality is reality till waking takes place. The unreal nature of the dream is exposed when waking takes place. Thus the dream is never again becomes a reality. Similarly for Gnani is fully aware of the unreal nature of the waking in the midst of waking. Since Gnani is soulcentric his judgment is based on the soul he sees his body as consciousness, his ego as consciousness and his experience of the world consciousness. Thus for a Gnani everything is consciousness and the consciousness alone is real and everything else is mere mirage created out of consciousness.  Whereas the ignorant   is egocentric and he takes the physical existence (universe) as reality. Thus when everything is observed on the base of ego the all sorts of doubts will prevail. When one is soulcentric there are no doubts and there is no confusion and no scope for any argument.  Whatever is happening within the waking or whatever happening within the dream is nothing to do with the soul. Thus to know the truth one has to realize ‘what is that becomes the ‘waking experience’ and ‘what is it that becomes a dream?  and what is it that remains with or without the waking or dream?  

It becomes very difficult to assimilate Nondualistic or Advaitic truth for those who believe the experience of birth, life, death and the world as reality and hold egocentric paths and theories as ultimate truth.  Gradually they will start accepting the truth as they go deeper in self-search.  thus the judgment should be on the soul not on the ego before coming to any conclusion or  pasing any opnion. 

Adyathmic discussion-- 400 (Karma theory is not universal)



Dear Trev,

I respect your views and wisdom.  There is no need to accept what I say. As the seeker progresses in his self-search the truth will start revealing.  There is no such God sits and corrects each and every individual for his action (karma) and rewards or award  good or bad life in the next life.  When karma theory is limited  only to Hinduism then how can it be a universal theory?  


As per my conviction:-


The karma theory  is a universal theory for those who believe the illusory duality as reality.  The karma is a reality only for those who believe the false self (waking entity or ego or you) as real self and false experience (waking or universe) as reality. The karma theory is reality for those who believe the experience of form, time and space as reality.  Karma theory is reality for those who believe in individualized God. Karma theory is reality for those who believe in the experience of birth, life, death and rebirth and the world as reality.  


Where is the dream mountain when waking takes place? The dream people and dream world dis-appeared when the waking reappears, then what substance this waking and dream and deep sleep are they made?  What is it that was aware of this coming and going of the three states?  Thus without knowing what witnesses the coming and going of the three states how can one say the karma theory is universal theory when the karma is limited to waking experience alone the dream karma becomes unreal when waking takes place. Similarly the waking karma becomes unreal when wisdom dawns. The wisdom dawns when the waking entity (doer of karma) realizes it itself is not the self but the self is the formless soul. If the self is not the waking entity but the self is formless soul then how anyone can accept the theory of karma, which is based on false self within the false experience. Thus whatever theories are based on the false self (waking entity or ego) and false experience (waking or world) is bound to be falsehood.   


Karma is a reality only for those who are stuck with the reality of the practical life within the practical world because they have accepted the world as reality. 


What is the doer, what is the enjoyer, what is a cessation of thought and rising of thought, what is immediate perception and its result, to the soul, the innermost self, the ever impersonal.  


What is  is the world, what is meant by the aspirant  for liberation; what is the contemplative man and what is a man of knowledge ; what is the soul in bondage and what is liberated soul to the innermost self , which is ever formless and non-dual.   


What are Prarabdha Karmas, what is even  liberation  in life, and what is that  and where is liberation at death  for the soul, the innermost self , which is ever attributeless. 


Nearest state to understand the soul by itself is to eliminate the whole waking experience, as in deep sleep. Once this is grasped one has to understand that the three states are soul, which is present in the form of consciousness, that soul or consciousness is the innermost self. 

Deeper-self-search reveals the fact that, the karma theory is meant for those who are immersed in worldly life thinking the individual life within the particle world as reality. In path of truth the karma theory becomes a great obstacle in realizing the truth.  


When Sri, Sankara says clearly, the universe is not real. He says that Brahman and Atman are one. The ultimate and the Absolute Truth is the Self, which is one though appearing as many in different individuals. The individual has no reality. Only the Self is Real; the rest, mental and physical are but passing appearances, then it indicates the form (waking/duality/mind) is unreal the formless is real (soul/spirit/self/FW).  Therefore, only Atman is real because there is no second thing other than Atman.



He also clearly mentions that:-



The path of religion, theory of karma, path of yoga and the path of wisdom were intended for different classes of people. The wisdom is for the advanced seekers of truth. It deals with the nature of the ultimate Truth and Reality. It is meant for superior aspirants who have inner urge to know the truth and it is not for those who are immersed in earthly desires.



Sage Sri Gaudapada says: - The merciful Veda teaches karma and Upasana to people of lower and middling intellect, while Jnana is taught to those of higher intellect.


It means the people who follow religion and worship of guru and conceptual god  and believe in karma theory are lower and middling intellect.  But in this modern world people are sharp enough to understand and assimilate ultimate truth or Brahman or god. Thus it is high time to discard the lower knowledge and move ahead to realize the ultimate truth, which is Brahman or God.   


They alone in this world are endowed with the highest wisdom who are firm in their conviction of the sameness and birthlessness of Ataman. The ordinary man does not understand their way. (Chapter IV — Alatasanti Prakarana 95-P-188 in Upanishads by Nikilanada)


This karma theory based on the human conduct must have been adopted from Buddhism and  also other theories based on human conducts. 



When it says: Perform the obligatory karmas without any attachment to the fruits, and at the same time worship gods and goddesses, again without any desire to go to heaven - then you can get the benefit of both, liberation and bliss. For those who are not yet ready to renounce, this path is recommended, it mean that the religion and its  idea of god and goddesses and code of conducts, and its rituals are meant for the mass who are incapable of thinking of the beyond.

 In addition, it also speaks of heaven the abode of gods, where one goes after death, and it speaks of rebirth, this contradiction, seeker has to conclude that religion, rituals god and its code of conducts are meant for the mass that is not receptive to self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana. 



When the self is not the body (‘ego or waking entity’) whatever one sees, knows, believes, experiences and feels on the base of the body (‘ego or waking entity’ as self is bound to be illusion.  Thus, the karma performed in illusion is bound to be illusion. The birth, life and death is happening within the illusion, therefore it is bound to be illusion. Thus, rebirth and reincarnation theories based on the false self within the false experience are bound to be illusion on the base of the true self. Only the witness of the illusion is real (Brahman).  Therefore, everything has to be viewed and judged, on the base of the Formless Witness (soul or consciousness) in order to overcome the illusion/duality. 



The seeker of truth has to know somewhere he is going wrong, and it is for the seeker to go on his own and remove the obstacle.  The greatest hindrance is mixing religion, god, scriptures, and yogic theories. Moreover, attachment to scriptures, personal god and religious code of conduct keeps one permanently in the grip of duality.

What is the meaning of Akram Vignan. ?

Dear Trev,
There are so many paths prescribed by many sages of truth in India with or without rituals but many takes us nearer to the truth but they fail to reach the ultimate end of understanding. Many sages of truth have introduced many paths and commented on the enlightened people. It has always been so in India, because much dust gathers as time passes. Now, the scriptures were translated and interpreted in a totally different world. Those sages have disappeared, their wisdom also has disappeared, and that world no more exists.

I don’t want to criticize any saint or gurus but I only want to say there is no need to follow any one or follow any path or take initiation from any guru. What is needed is perfect understanding of what is what leads one to non-dualistic or Advaitic self-awareness.

 If any promises extraordinary path of liberation of instant Self-realization is not a Gnani. And such path is egocentric path not soulcentric path. A Gnani will never promise such instant realization but he says it is not the man who has to get realized because it is the soul, which is in ignorance of its own true nature, has to wake up to reality. It is the soul; the innermost self- has to wake up to reality from the illusion.    If the soul wakes up than it is called self –realization.  A Gnani has no power to transmit Gnana to anyone because Gnana has to arise from within.  A Gnani only guides the seeker to the inner path which is formless, spaceless and timeless.

A Gnani will never pose himself as a Gnani. For a Gnani his body and his world cease to exist as reality because for Gnani his body is not the body, his ego is not ego his experience of the world is not the world but the body ego and the world are mere mirage created out of consciousness.   

Man and his world are product of ignorance. Ignorance is cause of experiencing the illusion as reality. When ignorance vanishes through wisdom then there is nothing exists other than consciousness.    such enlightenment is not true enlightenment.

First Mundaka - Chapter 2 (8) - Fools, dwelling in darkness, but wise in their own conceit and puffed up with vain scholarship, wander about, being afflicted by many ills, like blind men led by the blind.

Firstly the seeker has to overcome many obstacles, which is blocking his realization because he is gathered so much of dross and he is confused which pat is true path. Every guru declares and promises instant enlightenment but wisdom cannot be bought in spiritual super market.  

There are millions in search of truth but one in million will be able to grasp it.  I am just posting what revels from the inner core. I just share with likeminded fellow seekers.   I am just highlighting the obstacle in the pursuit of truth.  Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is not based on any teaching or teacher. Pursuit of truth is pursuit of verification not pursuit of argument.   Intellectual discussion is great hindrance in pursuit of truth.

When one is unable to quench his spiritual thirst from his guru or teaching he has to look elsewhere to clear the cobwebs of his understanding and to move forward in his spiritual quest.

Pursuit of truth is pursuit of verification not pursuit of argument.   Discussing with Intellectual is great hindrance in pursuit of truth because intellectuality is based on individuality whereas the self is not an individual.  

All the FP and IP blogs are verified truth derived from deeper self-search. If one goes on reading all his doubts and confusion will start clearing. It takes time to receptive to Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana because it is soulcentric knowledge whereas all accumulated knowledge is egocentric.

All accumulated knowledge is of no use in path of wisdom. Without realizing “What is truth it is impossible to realize “What is untruth?” Without realizing what is truth and what is untruth it is impossible to assimilate the Self –Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana. Thus one must know with full and firm conviction what truth is.

The wisdom consists in knowing the truth, that everything (mind or physical existence) is consciousness. Freedom (ultimate truth) is always there yet one does not know it.  But to those whose reason is turned away from physicality and who have attained the serenity of the soul or consciousness, the innermost self, are quite near to realizing the ultimate truth or Brahman. 

To think once own body and his experience of the world is an illusion is difficult matter, unless one realizes the self is not physical but it is formless soul it is difficult to have glimpse of truth.

When one realizes the fact that, the self is not physical but the formless soul, naturally the body and universe becomes illusion.

The mind (universe) is emanating from soul (consciousness) means the mind is being effect from consciousness is not different from it. Deeper analysis shows it. Analysis needs deeper thinking and reasoning. Mind is whole universe thus it has a form. But where is the form in consciousness (formless soul) because consciousness is like an ocean and mind is like wave.  The universe is same consciousness, as the ocean produces the wave, so the consciousness produces the mind (universe).

The moment one knows the mind (universe) is consciousness, and then there is no ignorance. If one knows consciousness as self then everything is consciousness, the consciousness is second to none.  The mind is consciousness but due to ignorance one mistakes it for something else. One thinks the self is within the body; but the self is without the body and the world.

It is no use of arguing with someone who has faith in his belief system because for him there can be no possible refutation of what he believes, so rational argument is entirely useless. He clings to his belief so strongly that he makes no distinction between the truth and his belief. One has to know the fact that god cannot exist without his existence. The truth does not depend on gods’ existence but it entirely depends on man’s existence.   Thus it is foolish to venture in knowing the truth of gods existence without verifying the facts about his own existence. 

It is difficult for tradition-bound people to accept anything as truth other than what they inherited from then in born and inherited conditioning and parental grooming and their accumulated knowledge. Only intense urge to know the truth and courage to accept the truth after verification with better understanding one will be able to drop all his accumulated dross, which is the main obstacle in self-realization. 

Adyathmic Discussion -398 (Karma theory is mere religious and yogic fable)




Trev Light Bown: - This is how my understanding sees it.

Karma is whatever is. Yes it is the play of duality forces as birth, living in world universe and death of body mind that is identity "I" thought.

So. Even Gnani after true self-realisation must be a player of these duality forces.
Look at all the Sages, many including Ramana, Krishnamurti, Nasagadatta, all died of cancer type illness if I am not mistaken. So this to me is evidence that forces of karma will play out even for Enlightened Gnani.

So yes Karma is illusion at soul witness, but to take part on Earth as human being, means living with "what is" or karma effects of past.

As per my conviction:-

When the self is not the form but self is formless then whose karma. The one which is born lives and dies is not the self then the question of karma does not arise.  Waking entity (you) is the false self within the false experience (waking). Thus whatever action and inaction, past, present and future belong to the waking experience, which is falsehood.

What happens to the dream entity which did good karma in the dream world and it died and reincarnated in the next life and suffered but when waking takes place the dream becomes unreal.

The waking becomes unreal when waking entity (you) realizes the fact that it itself (you) are not the self but the self is the formless soul, which witnesses the coming and going of the three states in succession.  

Thus neither karma of waking entity nor the karma of dream entity has meaning because the self is neither the waking entity nor the self is dream entity but the self is formless soul.  
You are not the self because you are the birth entity; you are bound by form, time and space whereas the self is Birthless then how the karma theory has any meaning when the karma theory based on the false self (you) and false experience (world).  The karma theory is a religious fable meant for the people who are fully immersed in the practical life and practical world believing the experience of the birth, life, death and the world as reality.   If self is birthless then what values the karma theory will have because it is based on birth, life, death and rebirth.

Thus,  as per my conviction, the Karma theory is mere religious and yogic fable.

Yes, Ramana, J. Krishnamurti, Nisargadattta, all died of cancer type illness. It does not make any difference if they died of cancer or not of cancer or any illness. Even Lord Krishna died of a painful death.  The death is certain cause of death is irreverent to a Gnani. When the self is birthless then it is deathless A Gnani is unconcerned to the death because he is fully aware of that the illusion is only a passing show. The last words of Sage Ramana on the death bed: - he says I am not going anywhere. He did not mean that his physical form, which was bound by birth, life and death   but the birthless self, which is ever formless.  Thus the karma theory is nothing to do with birthless self. Thus people’s painful death cannot be taken as evidence because self is ever deathless because it birthless because it is formless.

The karmic account is never ending because one has to be born again and again to reap his good or bad karma carried forward one life to the next.   To end his karmic account he has to be born as a Muslim in his next birth because the Islam does not believe in karma theory. 
   
As per Sage Sri, Sankara:-

The path of religion, theory of karma, the path of yoga and the path of wisdom were intended for different classes of people. The wisdom is for the advanced seekers of truth. It deals with the nature of the ultimate Truth and Reality. It is meant for superior aspirants who have an inner urge to know the truth and it is not for those who are immersed in earthly desires.

Sri Sankara  says in Aparokshanubhuti:- 

   88. When the whole universe, movable and immovable, is known to be Atman, and thus the existence of everything else is negated, where is then any room to say that the body is Atman?


   89. O enlightened one, pass your time always contemplating on Atman while you are experiencing all the results of Prarabdha; for it ill becomes you to feel distressed.


   90. The theory one hears of from the scripture, that Prarabdha does not lose its hold upon one even after the origination of the knowledge of Atman, is now being refuted.


   91. After the origination of the knowledge of Reality, Prarabdha verily ceases to exist, inasmuch as the body and the like become non-existent; just as a dream does not exist in waking.


   92. That Karma which is done in a previous life is known as Prarabdha (which produces the present life). But such Karma cannot take the place of Prarabdha (for a man of knowledge), as he has no other birth (being free from ego).


   93. Just as the body in a dream is superimposed (and therefore illusory), so is also this body. How could there be any birth of the superimposed (body), and in the absence of birth (of the body) where is the room for that (i.e., Prarabdha) at all ?


   94. The Vedanta texts declare ignorance to be verily the material (cause) of the phenomenal world just as earth is of a jar. That (ignorance) being destroyed, where can the universe subsist ?


   95. Just as a person out of confusion perceives only the snake leaving aside the rope, so does an ignorant person see only the phenomenal world without knowing the reality?



   96. The real nature of the rope being known, the appearance of the snake no longer persists; so the substratum being known, the phenomenal world disappears completely.


   97. The body also being within the phenomenal world (and therefore unreal), how could Prarabdha exist ? It is, therefore, for the understanding of the ignorant alone that the Shruti speaks of Prarabdha.


   98. “And all the actions of a man perish when he realizes that (Atman) which is both the higher and the lower”. Here the clear use of the plural by the Shruti is to negate Prarabdha as well.


   99. If the ignorant still arbitrarily maintain this, they will not only involve themselves into two absurdities but will also run the risk of forgoing the Vedantic conclusion. So one should accept those Shrutis alone from which proceeds true knowledge.


The above proves that the karma is reality only on the base of the false self, where one thinks body and the universes as reality. When one becomes aware of the fact that, the true self is formless soul, then the karma becomes part and parcel of illusion.   My point is that, if one accepts the karma theory as reality, he will never be able to come out of the ignorance. And ignorance makes him believe the cycle of birth, life and death as a reality.  Thus the freedom which one is seeking will remain a distant dream. For the one who accepts the birth life, death and the world as reality, Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is impossible.
