Atheist and theists both are believers. The theist believes in existence of god and an Atheist believes in no god. Atheists deny the existence of God, where as theists completely support it, because of this difference in belief. Both their belief are based on the false self/ego. Science has not been able to come to a conclusion because their invention is based on the false self, as real self, and believing the false experience as reality. Even if there is no God, the fear of this fictitious being prevents many people from doing ill deeds.
