People want to know about rebirths. Theosophy speaks of 50 to
thousands-year intervals between death and rebirth. But all these are
imaginations based on the false self ( ego or waking entity). There is no relation between the standard
of measurements of one state of consciousness and another. All such
measurements are hypothetical. It must be distinctly understood that it is not
the soul that comes and goes, but the three states which appear and disappear.
The three states are mere illusion on the standpoint of the formless witness which
is the soul, the innermost self. The soul is present in the form of consciousness.
Gaudapada’s rational exposition of Advaita: - that whatever is seen, whether external
or internal, whether by the ordinary persons or yogis, is unreal.
Heaven and hell are side by side.
Separation is ignorance. Hence one has to realize his body, his ego and his experience of the world are one in essence. if one thinks that there is a heaven and hell that he is in ignorance or Agyan. "Through wisdom" --i.e. wisdom consists in knowing the truth, that
"All is Brahman," nondual. Mukti or freedom is always there and yet one doesn't
know it.
The real
Moksha or freedom is to
realize the fact that ‘I’ consciousness is mere physical awareness. Physical
awareness is not self-awareness. The self –awareness is when the formless soul (consciousness), the innermost self remains aware of its own awareness.
The cause of thirst for life and a thirst for rebirth is
ignorance of the true self. Real
rebirth is dying from the matter into the Spirit. This is the significance of
the crucifixion of Jesus. Whenever identification with the body and the world
exists, a body and the world are always available, whether in the dream or waking
or vision or astral, till the duality disappears by merging into the Source –
the Spirit. The soul is in the form of spirit or consciousness. .
The stone which is projected upwards remains in constant
motion, till it returns to its source, the earth, and rests. Pain continues to
give trouble, till the pre-pain state is regained.
The quest for self-knowledge is inherent in the very nature
of life, which is Absolute Existence – truth. Although indestructible by
nature, by false identification with its destructible instrument, the body,
consciousness imbibes a false apprehension of its destructibility within the
false experience of duality; hence it tries to perpetuate that instrument,
which results in believing the birth, life and death as a reality. But however
long these experiences may last; they eventually come to an end and yield to
the Self, which alone eternally exists.
Sage Sri, Sankara says:- VC- 65. As a treasure hidden underground requires (for its extraction) competent instruction, excavation, the removal of stones and other such things lying above it and (finally) grasping, but never comes out by being (merely) called out by name, so the transparent Truth of the self, which is hidden by Maya and its effects, is to be attained through the instructions of a knower of Brahman, followed by reflection, meditation and so forth, but not through perverted arguments.
The seeker has to give up the false identification with the
‘waking entity or ego’ which is the false self within the false experience and, remember, the waking experience cannot exist
without the soul, which is present in the form of consciousness, whereas the the soul, the innermost self can exist without the three states. The the formless witness (soul) and the three states are one in essence.
People think human being may take an animal birth in some
other life. These ideas are based on accepting the present birth as reality.
deeper self-search reveals that, the self is neither the waking entity nor the self is dream entity but the self is formless soul, which witnesses the three states without the physical appartus. Therefore,
the present experience of the birth, life, death and the world are falsehood or illusion. Thus, the seeker has to realize the
fact that, individual experience of the birth, life, death ,which takes place within the waking experience is part of the illusion because from ultimate standpoint the three states are mere illusion. Therefore the
rebirth and reincarnation theory is mere imagination based on the false
identity, within the false experience.
The cause and origin of the three states is consciousness. The consciousness appears as waking or dream (duality) and disappears as deep sleep
(non-duality). Thus it is for the seeker to know what appears as duality (waking
or dream) and what disappears as non-duality (deep sleep).
The body and the world are existing only in duality (waking
or dream). They are
non-existent in non-duality (deep sleep). To unfold this mystery one has to
know what is the mind and what is the substance of the mind.
Only in duality (waking or dream) one knows that he exists,
in deep sleep the objective existence is absent.
One is aware of his body and sees his body moving and
thinking. But he is unaware of the fact that he and his experience of the world
are within the experience of duality (waking or dream).
One has to realize the fact that, the body also moving and
thinking and being in all sorts of places in the dream while it is actually
lying fast asleep. The dream is reality until waking takes place. The waking
also is reality until the wisdom dawns.
This Advaitic Gnana or
wisdom is the supreme secret. That for which the seeker has to make or do all
things is to understand, assimilate and realize the Supreme Truth or Brahman,
this Gnana or wisdom.
The real
Moksha or freedom is to realize the fact that ‘I’
consciousness is mere physical awareness. Physical awareness is not
self-awareness. The self –awareness is when the formless soul or
consciousness remains aware of its own non-dual true nature.
The path of wisdom is inner (mental) journey.
Self-knowledge and wisdom are one and the same thing. Without the intense urge
it is difficult to tread this path. Self-realization is not an experience
because the self is not an individual because it is formless and it pervades
everything and everywhere in all the three states.
The soul or consciousness, the innermost self is the
witness-consciousness that experiences the action, the actor, and the world of
separate things. It is like a light that illuminates everything in a theatre,
revealing the master of ceremonies, the guests, and the dancers with complete
impartiality. Even when they all depart, the light shines to reveal their
absence.
A deeper self - search
reveals the fact that: -the experience implies duality. And duality is falsehood from ultimate
standpoint. The ego, body and world appear together and disappear
together. One cannot get rid of the ego
alone. It is no use of challenging or indulging in argument whether one is right
and others are wrong, in pursuit of truth, because the pursuit of truth is the
pursuit of verification. It is for the
seeker to know how he is right how others wrong and on what standpoint he is
right and others are wrong. And seeker
has to verify himself what he knows as truth,
is truth or not.
