A person perceives the world within the mind. The mind is present in the form of the universe. Absent of mind is absent of waking or dream. Thus waking or dream is present in the form of mind. The mind is present in the form of 'I'. Thus 'I' is the whole universe.
Sri
Ramana Maharishi Says: The self is fullness of consciousness. Therefore, there
is nothing apart from it. Ramana would humorously say that if god were to be
separate he would be self-less. As for Sadguru his individuality is dead. It is
merged in the self like waves in the sea. so, he is the Self. The guru and god
are not different for their essential nature as unlimited consciousness is the
same. [Page-8

The earliest ancient sages used the word ‘I’ to the witness of the three
states not to the ego as moderns use it and think the ‘I’ without the body as self. The seeker has to realize the fact that the fact that ‘I’ is not the
self but the witness of the ‘I’ is the true self, which is eternal. The witness of the 'I' is the formless soul.
People think that the ‘soul’ or ‘spirit’ is something different from the mind. They believe that the mind is really two. This is the confusion among religious believers and intellectuals. If ‘Soul’ has any meaning, if ‘spirit’ has any meaning, so long as one thinks of them, they are merely ideas. Soul or Atman is the highest. The soul is present in the form of consciousness. Consciousness is ultimate truth or Brahman because the whole universe is created out of consciousness.
Consciousness is the substance and the witness of the duality. The duality is present in the form of mind.
The mind is present in the form of the universe. The universe appears as waking or
dream and diapers as deep sleep. The one which is aware of the coming and going
of the three states is neither the waking entity nor the dream entity but the
formless soul, which is present in the form of consciousness. When the soul becomes aware of its formless
nondual true nature in the midst of duality it is called self –awareness. It is
foolish to limit the consciousness only to duality because the consciousness
pervades all the three states
One thinks he is an individual separate from the
world within the mind. He is unaware of the fact that, the mind is not within
his brain but he and his experience of the world are within the mind.
Thus, he thinks he is born in this world and the world existed prior to him.
Thus this conviction makes him believe the birth, life and death as
a reality. Till this conviction is there one views
and judges the three states on the base of ego or waking entity, which is the cause of ignorance.
This ignorance is the main hurdle
in pursuit of truth. Therefore, it is very much necessary to rectify the reasoning base from physical (form) to spirit (formless) before proceeding
further in pursuit of truth.
If the seeking base is not rectified it will lead
one towards hallucination. When the mind itself is a myth then the man and his
experience of the world is bound to be a myth. Therefore a perfect understanding of
the mind will help one to unfold the mystery of the mind. It is
impossible to unfold the truth on the base of false self within the false
experience, because the truth is prior to the appearance of the
falsehood. And falsehood creates ignorance. and ignorance is cause of experiencing the duality as reality.
The seeker has to burn down the ignorance by rectifying
the base of reasoning by realizing the fact that, the self is neither the waking entity nor the self is dream entity but the self is formless soul. .
Waking entity is the
false self within the false experience. All arguments based on the waking entity or ego are untruth. All the happenings within the waking experience is falsehood. Therefore the birth, life, death and the world are mere illusion. The self is
neither the waking entity nor the self is the dream entity but the self is the formless soul, which witnesses the coming and going of the three states in succession.

Duality exists until mind exists. Mind exists where there
is division of form, time and space. If there is no division of form, time and
space, then there is no mind. Words are used as a tool to name individual
objects and feelings within the duality.
The words become meaningless when one
becomes aware of the formless substance of the mind, which is consciousness.
Consciousness is our innermost self. From the standpoint of our innermost
self, the mind is mere mirage.
If mind is a mere mirage then the form, time and
space are mere mirage. If form, time and space are a mere mirage than the
thoughts and words which arises within the scope of form, time and space are
also part and parcel of that mirage. Thus body, ego, words, thoughts, and
whatever the contents of the universe are within the mirage created out of
single stuff that is consciousness. Thus it is necessary to know 'What is
mind?' and 'What is the substance of the mind?' and 'What is the source of the
mind?', in order to realize the words are meaningless in the realm of truth.
