The nature of the true self is ‘I’-less (non-dual) state in which the mind stays merged in the soul or consciousness, the innermost self.

Deeper self-search revels the fact that,  self is neither the waking entity  nor the dream entity but the self is formless soul which is present in the form of consciousness. Soul or consciousness is the formless witness of the three states.    The formless witness  of the three states is also the substance of the three states. The formless witness and substance of the three states are one in essence. That essnce is conciousness.

People, who stamped their foot on the ground to refute to show the world, is real, ignore that in dream they  would do exactly the same--stamp their  dream foot on the ground and assert it to be real.

The three mental states of waking, dream and deep sleep are unreal, because they have no permanence. Man and his experience of the world is reality within the waking or dream. But the point is the waking is also as unreal as dream. They come and go.  Thus one has to realize the fact that, there must be a knower  or witness of these three states which appear and disappear in succession.

One knows nothing about the deep sleep except the recollection of its repose on waking. And on waking one becomes aware the dream is unreal.  The reason for this is the apparent absence of continuity of events between two or more dream and absence of corroboration about the dream on waking.

It is erroneous to view and judge the three states on the standpoint of the waking entity. When the inquiry and reasoning reveals the fact that, physical body is not the self, then it is clear that one which is without the body and the world  (formless)is the knower of the three states, which come and go. Therefore, it is erroneous to view and judge the three states on the standpoint of waking entity or ego. Thus there is a need to become aware of the existence of formless witness of these three states.

Even the dream is self contained and it has perfect inner logic and sequence. During the dream experience the dream entity and the dream world are reality, within the dream.  But the dream is unreal. Similarly, the waking entity, and waking world, is reality within the waking, but the waking is unreal on the standpoint of the formless consciousness the innermost self.

However, if one analyze deeply one becomes aware every state is self contained; it has perfect inner logic and sequence.  During the subsistence of the dream there is no doubt about its reality. Thus one can easily conclude that each state has its own illusion which can be got over only if one wakes up from that particular illusory state into another.  Just as the dream appears unreal to the one who is awake, so too would waking itself be if the self, awakes from it to its formless non-dual true nature.

The nature of the true self is ‘I’-less (non-dual) state in which the mind stays merged in the soul or consciousness,  the innermost self.  It is only when one traverses beyond the mind (I’ or waking or universe or mind) through inquiry and reasoning on the true base,   than it is possible to negate the all the three starts mentally.  Then one is in self- awareness of its formless non-dual true nature, a state which combines the conscious of the waking experience with the repose of the deep sleep. In this Self-Awareness one is fully aware of the fact that,  the waking experience  is mere mirage created out of consciousness.

The observation of the three states will depend upon the medium through which the observer views it. In fact, one’s mental and intellectual conditions will determine the dual and non-dual experiences observed and experienced.  The religionists viewing the three states will see it differently from the spiritualist viewing the same three states.  Each one interprets the three states that he observes in term of his existing knowledge.

The man of truth sees consciousness in everything and everywhere. Because he is fully aware of the fact that, the consciousness pervades in everything and everywhere in all the three states, therefore he has the firm conviction that everything is consciousness and no second thing exists other than the consciousness  in  midst diversity or waking experience.

Just as a dream appears “unreal” when waking takes place, the waking becomes unreal when the wisdom dawns.

It takes a long time to rectify the reasoning base mentally from form to formless base because of the inborn samskara or conditioning ,which is present as 'I'

Until and unless the seeker of truth finds the fact that, the religion, scriptures, god/guru glorification or chosen paths are inadequate and useless, in quenching his spiritual thirst, and finds them all as method of dead words, and then only he will be able to grasp and realize the non dual truth.

Truth pursuit is for those who has intense urge to know the truth of their true existence, and receptive mind, which has the courage to accept only un-contradictable truth, and reject the untruth. People who are emotionally and sentimentally involved with religion, god and scriptures and gurus and yoga should avoid indulging in pursuit of truth.

Religion, scriptural studies, theories, concept of god and yoga are valuable for those who do believe their present physical identity (ego) as real, and world as reality. And it helps to manipulate the practical life life ,which is based on the false self or ego.

Since pursuit of truth is a very personal journey, and there is nothing is needed other then verifying “What is mind?” and “What is substance of the mind?” Religion, concept of god, scriptural knowledge becomes big obstacle in realizing the non dual truth, because they are based on the body or ego as self, whereas the non dual truth is based on the soul or consciousness as self.

Since everyone is   viewing the worldview on the base of object as subject ( body or ’ego’) due to ignorance, they have to become aware of the fact  that ,the true subject, is soul or consciousness . By rectifying the reasoning base, from form, to formless, mentally helps  one  acquire the Self-knowledge.

Inquiry and reasoning on the true base revels the fact that, neither physical body, nor the ‘I’, the true self.  The formless witness of the ‘I’ is the true self.  The formless witness is soul or consciousness.  The three mental states of waking, dream and deep sleep are unreal, because they have no permanence. Man and his experience of the world is reality within the waking  or dream. But the point is, the waking is also as unreal as dream. They come and go.

Thus one has to realize the fact that there must be a knower  or witness of these three states which appear and disappear in succession.

One has to trace the source of the three states, from where they appear and disappear. The source is also the formless substance , the witness and the innermost self. This  truth has to be grasped mentally by constantly reflecting on the source until one gets the firm conviction that, the source itself is the true self, and the source is formless soul or consciousness.  Once this conviction becomes firm, then the true base is formed mentally, and one will be able to view and judge the worldview on the base of the formless subject.

On the base of formless subject [soul or consciousness], the three states becomes an object to the formless subject [consciousness], and one will be to view and judge the worldview on the base of soul or consciousness  and realize the fact that,  the waking  or dream which consist of man and world are unreal, on the standpoint of the formless witness. This is first step the seeker has to take. Once the true base formed mentally the truth will start unfolding on its own.

It takes a long time to rectify  the reasoning base mentally from  form  to   formless  base because of the inborn samskara or conditioning  ,which is  present as 'I' , but for those who are free from religion; scriptural knowledge , concept of god and yoga can grasp it with lesser time and effort.

In a dream one sees the whole variety of individual. These entities, which are within the dream, do not exist apart from the witness of the dream.

In a dream one sees the whole variety of individual.  These entities, which are within the dream, do not exist apart   from the witness of the dream. Likewise, the dream is an object to the formless witness, which is the innermost self.  Similarly, the waking experience is also an object to the formless witness which is formless Consciousness, the innermost self.
The waking man, wandering about in all the ten directions in his waking experience, sees the whole the variety of individuals are within the waking. Similarly there is variety of individual in the waking world. The waking also disappears as dream. The witness of the three states is within but it is apart from the three states.  It is within because it is the formless clay of the three states and it is apart as the formless witness of the three states, it is apart because it is not an entity or identity within the waking or dream.
The waking or dream cannot exist independently without the formless witness the innermost self. There is no evidence of the existence of the one without the other; they are cognized only through each other.
Birthlessness of the Self, which is free from Manifestation and causal relationship, is absolute and constant. For duality i.e. the ego and its objects is merely an objectification of the false self or ego.
Realizing the absence of causality as ultimate truth and not finding any other reason for birth, one attains that state which is free from grief, desire and fear.
On account of attachment to unreal objects the mind pursues such objects. But it comes back to its pure state when it attains non-attachment, realizing their unreality.
The mind freed from attachment to all external objects and undistracted by fresh objects attains the state of immutability. Such a mind is Consciousness; it is undifferentiated, birthless and non-dual.
The birthless, dreamless and sleepless Reality reveals itself by itself; for this Consciousness by its very nature is self- luminous.  The Consciousness becomes easily hidden because of attachment to any single object and is revealed with great difficulty.
The ignorant, with their spiritually immaturity, verily cover Consciousness by predicating of it such attributes as existence, non-existence, existence and non-existence and total non-existence, deriving these characteristics from the notions of change, immovability, combination of change and immovability and absolute negation which they associate with Consciousness.
Attachment to unreality hides the truth from one's view. He who knows the Consciousness to it ever untouched by them indeed knows all.
There is nothing else remains to be desired by him who has attained the natural state, -a state of complete non-duality, which is without beginning, middle, or end.

By activating Kundalini power one does not get nondual wisdom***

Nature of  the self  is like deep sleep.   The self is within the three stats as its formless substance and it is beyond the states of waking, dreaming and dreamless sleep as their formless witness. The non-dual self-awareness  has to be attained only through wisdom.

In yogic and mystic Samadhi are based on the body and experienced as the body as self.  Those who have witnessed it as an external phenomenon report that the experiencer appeared to have fallen into a kind of trance. The hair on the head and body stood erect. The half-closed eyes became fixed. Sometimes there was an astonishing loss of weight, or even levitation of the body from the ground. But these are mere symptoms, and tell us nothing. There is only one way to find out what yogic Samadhi is like: one must have it himself.

A man's spiritual consciousness is not awakened unless he becomes aware of the fact that ‘I’ is not the self, but the formless soul or consciousness  is the innermost self.

By activating Kundalini power one does not get non-dual wisdom. The wisdom does not dawn without realizing the fact that the world in which man exists is false.  To realize the world is falsehood it is an impossible task through yogic practice, because yoga is limited to the physical entity, and it holds the world as reality.

As per the yogic texts: The Kundalini dwells in the Muladhara. When it is aroused, it passes along the Sushumna nerve, goes through the centers of Svadhisthana, Manipura, and so on, and at last reaches the head. This is called the movement of the Mahavayu, the Spiritual Current. It culminates in Samadhi. Thus, Kundalini is subjected only to the physical body, and experienced as a body, whereas as the self is not the body because self is formless. Thus, what value the kundalini will have when  the  kundalini is based on physicality.

Non-dual wisdom is based on the formless soul or consciousness which is the   true self, where one becomes fully aware of the fact that, the waking experience, which consists of the man and the world, are mere mirage, created out of formless  consciousness the innermost self.  Therefore, a Gnani is fully aware of the fact that everything in experience of diversity is consciousness , in the midst of waking experience. Whereas the yogi experiences only absent of thoughts in the Samadhi, and when he comes out of Samadhi, he is unaware of the fact that, duality is unreality, because he considers his body as the author of the Samadhi.  and his bodily experienced bliss as wisdom.

Whatever is based on the waking entity or ego is bound to falsehood and whatever is based on the formless soul or consciousness is real

Whatever knowledge  acquired   through reading and listening  and accumulated  is acquired wisdom. intellectual  wisdom is gained by reflecting on what one had read and heard. however, the non-dual wisdom is gained by direct realization.

Seekers gradually begin to realize the fact that, their experience of birth, life, death and the world are not reality,  because the waking entity is not self,  but the self is the formless soul   or consciousness , therefore the waking experience itself is falsehood.   Thus experience of   the birth, life, death ,which takes place within the false experience is bound to be falsehood.

The seeker has to realize the fact that, whatever is based on the waking entity or ego is bound to falsehood and whatever is based on the formless soul or consciousness is real because the formless  consciousness is the innermost self.

As the line made by a moving fire-brand appears to be straight, crooked, etc., so Consciousness, when set in motion, appears as the perceiver, the perceived and the like.
As the fire-brand, when not in motion, is free from all appearances and remains changeless, so Consciousness/sprit, when not in motion, is free from all appearances and remains Changeless.
When the fire—brand is set in motion, the appearances that are seen in it do not come from elsewhere. When it is still, the appearances do not leave the motionless fire—brand and go elsewhere, nor do they enter into the fire-brand itself.
The appearances do not emerge from the fire-brand, because their nature is not that of a substance. This applies likewise to Consciousness, because of the similarity of the appearances.
When Consciousness is associated with the idea of activity, as in the waking  or dream, the appearances that seem to arise do not come from anywhere else. When Consciousness is none-active, as in deep sleep, the appearances do not leave the non-active Consciousness and go elsewhere, nor do they merge in it. The appearances do not emerge from Consciousness, for their nature is not that of a substance. They are incomprehensible, because they are not subject to the relation of cause and effect.
A substance may be the cause of another substance and a non- substance, the cause of another non-substance. But the individual cannot possibly be anything like a substance or a non-substance.
The three states are not caused by the mind, nor is the mind caused by them because they are mind itself.  The mind is myth on the standpoint of the Consciousness as self. Hence one has to hold to the principle of absolute non-creation.

The yogi who thinks himself as a person and claims that, he experienced the self in Samadhi is unaware of the fact that, thoughtlessness is not wisdom

Sage Sri Sankara says: - Yoga is not the means of liberation (page 132-133 - Commentary on Brihadaranyakopanishad.

In Sutra Bashya and Mandukya: - The Samadhi and sleep are identical.
Brihad Upanishaddoes not advocate Samadhi.

Sage Sri Sankara in commentary to "Brahma Sutras:- " "The highest beatitude is not to be attained by Yoga." (Sacred Books of East Series page 298 Vol.1.)   And he also says Samadhi is the same as sleep (p.312) ---this indicates that yoga is not the means to self-realization.  And yogic Samadhi is not non dual self-awarenesss.
Panchadesi: - the impossibility of yoga arrives at a successful end to its practices. (P.509 v, 109)

Yoga can yield only duality, because everything that one can do or practice becomes a vanishing 'known.' It yields relative truth based on imagination, which is true from physical viewpoint of view, not non-dual truth, which is ultimate reality.

Deeper self search revels the fact that, yogic Samadhi is, not the means for liberation because yogic Samadhi is a individual experience based on the false self within the false experience. Wisdom dawns only when the individual realizes,  the self is not an individual because self  is formless. Thus The yogi who thinks himself as a person and claims that, he experienced the  self  in Samadhi  is unaware of the fact that,  thoughtlessness is not wisdom.  Everyone experiences  thoughtlessness in deep sleep. Deep sleep is not  wisdom.

Though there is the natural eradication of difference in deep sleep and in Samadhi, because false knowledge has not been removed, differences occur once again upon waking just like before.

The duality, such as the fundamental distinction between subject and object, is obliterated in deep sleep and in Samadhi, as well as in other conditions such as fainting, but duality is only temporarily obliterated for it reappears when one awakes from sleep or regains consciousness after fainting, and it also reappears when the yoga arises from Samadhi. The reason why duality persists is because false knowledge has not been removed.  Therefore the attainment of Samadhi to be a sufficient cause to eradicate false knowledge, since false knowledge is the cause of bondage, Samadhi cannot therefore be the cause of liberation from experiencing the duality as reality.

Liberation is not something that can be brought into being. For liberation is just the destruction of bondage, it is not the result of an action. And we have already said that bondage is ignorance and it is not possible that ignorance can be destroyed by action. And action has its capacity in some visible sphere. Action has its capacity in the sphere of production, attainment, modification and rectification. Action is able to produce, to make one attain, to modify or to rectify. The capacity of an action has no other scope than this, for in the world it is not known to have any other capacity. And liberation is not one of these. Truth is hidden merely by ignorance.

The perspective of non-dual wisdom is fundamentally different from that of the yogic  tradition where, although the self is presented as not something to be acquired, liberation is nonetheless a real goal to be attained through a process of mental discipline, which necessitates the complete suppression of all mental activity.

As the line made by a moving fire-brand appears to be straight, crooked, etc., so Consciousness the innermost self, when set in motion, appears as the perceiver, the perceived and the like.
As the fire-brand, when not in motion, is free from all appearances and remains changeless, so Atman or consciousness or spirit, when not in motion, is free from all appearances and remains Changeless.
