Buddhists
do not believe in God, they believe in emptiness First tell them that
Buddhists don't believe in God, and secondly you tell them they believe
in emptiness. That's worse! That they believe in "nothingness!" That's
worse!
That's why you need to explain. Because when Buddhist
say they do not believe in God, it does not mean that Buddhists don't
believe in the nature of God! Because the nature of God is the nature of
truth, is the sunyata, or emptiness. The same! But Buddhists do not
believe in the concept of God. Because in many ways you, you see,
however good the concepts are, it does not do justice for the Absolute.
All the concepts of God will not describe, really, what God is.
Do you know what I'm saying? There is a wonderful saying by a great
Buddhist master called Shantideva, who is a very great compassion
master. He said, "Absolute is beyond mind." That which is within the
realm of mind is called relative. "Absolute is beyond mind." Since God
is beyond mind, it is beyond concept. Therefore empty, empty means free,
open, like the sky. It doesn't mean emptiness in a nihilistic sense,
like my cup is empty of tea or something.—OSHO
We are discussing about the formless truth in the realm of untruth undefined.
If we rectify reasoning base form to formless then the words and
concepts will become meaningless. To travel from ignorance to wisdom one
has to use the words and concepts and as his understanding matures he
has to drop them.
Everyone is not in same level of
understanding, some are in elementary level and some are in advanced
stages. In elementary stages we have to use more words and concepts to
make them understand and also to overcome the inherited conditioning,
for advanced seekers are sharp enough to understand assimilate the truth
with lesser words.
Spiritual pursuit is a very personal
journey. Seeker of truth has to bifurcate everything which is based on
the ego, [false self ], such as religion, god, paths and theories and
philosophy.
Seeker of truth should not indulge in condemning
religion and yoga or its gurus or gods and its code of conduct. But he
has to highlight its fallacy for his own information, which helps him to
proceed deeper in investigation.
Seeker of truth has to mingle
and discuss with like minded people but never indulge in arguments
about religious doctrines and teachers and teachings and philosophies.
Religion and god and guru glorification and scriptural studies or yoga
are not needed in pursuit of truth. Only one must have the intense urge
to know the truth and courage to accept the truth and reject the
untruth, when un-contradictable truth is revealed through inquiry
analysis and reasoning.
A receptive mind free from religious
and yogic or any sort of knowledge based on the ego is very much
necessary to acquire the nondual wisdom.
All the accumulated
knowledge from religion and yoga and paths and theories are mere dross
in pursuit of truth. Religion and yoga are helpful for the mass and the
society but they are barricade in unfolding the mystery of the mind.
I DO have a "grasp" on maya now! I always have! But just when you think you do, you don't! OM This is fun!!!!!!
Non-Duality
means not the non-existence of a second thing, but its nonexistence as
other than consciousness. One must know it is of the same substance as
the objects.
Non dual Truth is possible only in duality when there
is both a knower and a known. Hence truth is one’s idea of a thing.
Reality is the fact, the thing itself. Truth is used for communication
about the reality. Ultimate truth is beyond all doubt and contradiction.
It is not assumption or idea but the Reality itself. Hence ultimate
truth and ultimate reality are one and the same.
It is
impossible to know that God is everywhere. What is God? God cannot
exist without duality. In non-dual reality there is no man, no world,
and no belief of god. God has no meaning in realm of truth. It is a mere
imagination or assumption. Soul, which is in the form of consciousness,
is the formless substance and witness of the mind, which appears as
waking or dream. The dream is parallel waking experience and waking
experience is parallel dream. One cannot prove the existence of any God
which is everywhere apart from consciousness. Thus for seeker of truth
consciousness, which is ultimate truth itself is God. In nondual
reality neither the universe is reality nor the man nor the idea of god,
because there is no second thing exist other than the consciousness
because everything is consciousness.
Self- Knowledge is only
is true knowledge not the absence of duality. Self -Knowledge cannot
destroy the world but it eliminates the ignorance and exposes the unreal
nature of the mind or universe.
Non dual wisdom requires
investigate in to the mind, analysing the mind, which appears as
universe, realizing the fact that, the mind rises and subsides from
formless source, which is consciousness. The consciousness is the true
self. Therefore, one has to learn to judge the truth from the standpoint
of the source from where the mind rises and subsides, not from the
standpoint of the waking entity, which is the false self.
As
one gets convinced, certain, of the truth that the world is nothing but
consciousness, and there is no second thing, then he get conviction
that, all the three states to be consciousness in the midst of duality.
Realizing the truth in the midst of duality is wisdom.
Seeker
has to practice thinking that he is neither the doer nor the enjoyer
and his existence as a person is limited to the waking experience. Thus
neither the waking entity nor the dream entity is the self. The true
self is that which witnesses the three states as a whole. When he
realizes the waking entity is not the self then he will gradually
realize the fact that, whatever is seen as waking /dream is only mirage
created out of consciousness. Therefore when he realizes the waking
experience is the mirage then he realizes the stuff from the mirage is
made, which is consciousness to be real.
Even
in the Buddhism: - Buddhist teaching has itself become a kind of
interactive and self-evolving process, much like its idea of
pratityasamutpada. However, the end goal is still Nirvana, which is an
experience ultimately beyond all concepts and language, even beyond the
Buddhist teachings. In the end even the attachment to the Dharma, the
Buddhist teaching, must be dropped like all other attachments. The
tradition compares the teaching to a raft upon which one crosses a swift
river to get to the other side; once one is on the far shore; there is
no longer any need to carry the raft. The far shore is Nirvana, and it
is also said that when one arrives, one can see quite clearly that there
was never any river at all.
The scriptures and theories and
teaching based on the ego are not the yardstick. Using them as yardstick
to understand and assimilate the truth will lead one towards pursuit of
arguments. Seeker of truth has to discover on his own, the truth of his
true existence by inquiring “what is mind?” and “what is substance of
the mind?” and move forward.
The ultimate truth is one without
the second, the one is not in the sense half or two, but the one that
remain forever One, without the second. The consciousness is all
pervading. There is no place where consciousness is not.
Consciousness is in everyone, consciousness is in everything
.consciousness is one behind many. Consciousness alone is. It means the
universe is the visible form of consciousness. Formless and colourless
consciousness’s creative and impulsive imagination to know itself as
omnipresent, infinite and eternal. And consciousness in turn invisible
form of the universe.
Since people all are not aware of the
fact that, they are an experience within another experience
[waking/dream]. The mind is an experience, which contains everyone and
everything and the universe. Since one limits the mind to the physical
entity, he forgets the fact that, his body and the universe is an
experience, within waking or dream experience. It is impossible to
unfold the mystery of his true existence without realizing the fact
that, the self is not physical but the self is consciousness. If the
self is not physical then it is erroneous to judge and conclude the
truth on the base of the physical self or ego. Thus the truth has to be
judges on the base of the true self, which is consciousness.
Until and unless one rectifies the seeking base from form to formless the truth will not be revealed.
On the standpoint of the formless soul/consciousness :-
"There is nothing to accept,
Nothing to reject,
Nothing to hold on to,
Nothing to let go of,
Nothing to grasp,
Nothing to spurn,
Nothing to embrace,
Nothing to relinquish,
Nothing to dissolve.
This is the truth.
~ From Ashtavakra-Gita
Rig-Veda says: - “Truth is one; the wise call it many names”. Truth is universal it not property of any religion.
Religions in the past have been scared with inter religious conflicts
that, to this day cause distress and devastation around the world.
Until there is self-knowledge or self-realization there will never be
peace. Everyone will be thinking the false self as truth self and false
experience as reality and the violence will continue in the name of god
and religion, which are part of the illusion.
Unity in
diversity is not possible through religion. Thus universal brotherhood
is impossibility through religion. Thus there is need to bifurcate
religious, yogic and all theoretical paths based on the false self undefined
to realize the ultimate truth, because the truth lies beyond the mind,
which is in the form universe. Until and unless one is able to trace
the source of the mind from where it erupts and subsides truth
realization is impossible. Therefore, realizing the fact that, the
self is not form but self is formless in order understand and assimilate
and realize the non-dual truth. Without the non-dual wisdom the
experience of duality will remain as reality. Without realizing the
duality is unreal unity in diversity is impossible.
All the
accumulated knowledge from religion and yoga and paths and theories are
mere dross in pursuit of truth. Religion and yoga are helpful for the
mass and the society but they are obstacles in unfolding the mystery of
the mind.
They
alone in this world are endowed with the highest wisdom who are firm in
their conviction of the sameness and birthlessness of Atman. The
ordinary man does not understand their way. [Chapter IV — Alatasanti
Prakarana 95-P-188 in Upanishads by Nikilanada]
This passage
indicates the fact that everything is Atman/spirit. The one who views
and judges the worldview on the base of his birth /body will not realize
the fact that, the man including the world is created sustained and
finally dissolves as Atman. Thus Atman alone is, and all else is mirage.
Thus self-knowledge is the aim of every human being. Since
everyone thinks the physical body is the self, their aim is misdirected
and they focus their attention on materiality which makes one feel the
duality undefined as reality.
Nisagadutta said: Millions are in search of the ultimate truth, and
only one in million will be able to grasp and realize it. By focusing
more attention on Atman by talking, writing, discussing only of Atman,
the conviction grows and becomes firmer and the duality will fade away
as reality. Atman/consciousness, which is one’s true identity, will
prevail as birth-less and deathless, eternal substance and witness of
the mirage called duality.
Therefore there is no need to study
scriptures, or indulge in god and guru glorification or performing
religious rituals. Since, they are not the means to acquire non-dual
wisdom. It is only waste of time and effort to indulge in those things.
The individual self is not real, is not accepted by many. The non-dual wisdom is based not on the individual self undefined. Until people hold the ‘I’ undefined as witness, they will not reach the ultimate understanding.
When Upanishad itself declares:- sarvam khalvidam brahma - all this
(universe) is verily Brahman. By following back all of the relative
appearances in the world, we eventually return to that from which it is
all manifest – the non-dual reality [ Chandogya Upanishad].
Then it is no use going roundabout way, trace the Brahman which is the
formless substance and witness of the universe, which is in the form of
mind. By tracing the source of the mind or universe one will be able to
realize the Brahman.
The ultimate truth has nothing to do
with Scriptures and it is independent of scriptures. The point is:
though it is taught by the Vedas, it does not require any belief in the
infallibility of Vedas; in other words even if an individual or some
other religion were to propose the same thing, a person with an open
mind would come to the same conclusion that there is a formless witness
or Atman , that it is Brahman - and that it is the same as the self
,which is not an individual but it pervades in everything and
everywhere in three states as their formless substance and witness.
When Sri,Sankara says: world is unreal . He never said body is unreal.
He would have said only birth and death is unreal but he did not say
that, he said the world is unreal. He meant the world including the
body, because the body and world appear together and disappear together
[waking/dream]. Then we have to think, what remain without the body and
the world as reality. How can the birth, life, death, rebirth, and
reincarnation, which take place in unreal world [waking/dream], can be
true. The one, which is aware of the birth, life death, rebirth and
reincarnation [illusion/unreal], is formless reality, which is the true
self/true identity. The formless self is your true identity, which is
birthless and deathless but it is the witness of the birth, life and
death and rebirth [illusion/unreal].
On the standpoint of
identity the birth, life, death, rebirth and reincarnation theory is
part of the illusion/unreal. The body cannot reincarnate, the body and
the world are created out of the same formless stuff. Until one views
and judges on the base of flesh, bone and blood [five elements], he will
not be able to grasp the non-dual truth. Thus, one must know on what
standpoint we are not born and we do not die thoroughly, just by hearsay
views, it will not lead anyone to the non-dual destination.
Seeker has to learn to view and judge on the standpoint of FW/soul/self.
Then he will be never having any confusion. When one thinks deeply
then only the inner revelation starts and start burning the dross
[confusion/doubts]. A well-directed inquiry and sound reasoning will
lead one towards non-dual destination and it will start yielding fruits
and start revealing, when he starts thinking very deeply. This is the
inner process every serious seeker experiences. The inner dialogue will
start and one will start getting answers from inner core of his
existence, and he becomes aware of the fact of what is real and what is
unreal and he will be able to mentally reject the unreal nature of the
self in the midst of duality.
There
is no need to name and create division and try to understand and
assimilate the ultimate truth. On the ultimate standpoint everything is
one. All divisions, which are named, are also consciousness or Atman.
So, there is no second thing exists other than consciousness or Atman.
Consciousness is ultimate truth or Brahman.
Many believe
spirituality and religion are considered inter connected but it is not
so. Religion is based on the false self-[ego or body] and it is limited
to the false experience undefined,
while spirituality transcends race, religion, gender, language and
nationality and universe. Spirituality is pursuit of truth.
There
are many paths have come into existence in the name of Self-Realization.
Every belief system believes that each human being embodies a spark of
the divine, and that fanning into the shining fire spiritual
realization is the meaning and purpose of human life. But spirituality
is not based on the belief but discovering the truth of the whole
universe and man’s existence. Religious and Yogic truth and scientific
truth are individual truth based on the false self-undefined
within the false experience. Individuality has no value in the realm of
ultimate point of view. Therefore, realization of true self is
necessary in order to realize the ultimate truth, which is free from all
the diversity, which is present in the form of universe. The universe
ceases to be real from the ultimate point of view. The ignorance is the
cause of experiencing the unreality as reality. Therefore truth
realization is necessary to unfold the mystery of the universe, which
appears to be real from the physical point of view.
Universe
is reality on the base of ego, which is the false self. It is unreal
on the stand point of the consciousness, which is the true self.
Universe is mere mirage from the ultimate point of view. Man perceives
the world within the universe; therefore his existence is limited to the
universe, which is in the form of mind. Consciousness is real because
it is permanent, but universe, which is in the form of mind, appears as
waking or dream undefined and
disappears as deep sleep is impermanent [non-duality]. Thus mind is
not absolute and eternal like consciousness itself. People stuck with
the reality of the world, so they take it as real. Once they take their
physical existence to be real then they have accepted the false self as
real self and false universe as reality. Thus their judgment is based
in the false self, will keep them within the threshold of duality. Thus
the ultimate truth lies beyond duality.
People take the
universe confronting them as real, the experience of birth, life and
death, which happens within the universe, which they experienced as
reality. When the self is not physical but self is formless, then
whatever seen, known, believed, experienced as person within the
universe is falsehood, on the base of the formless self undefined.
The gross universe is merged into the mental universe in the sense that
when it is analysed, it is found to exist inseparably in and as the
mind alone. All "spiritual" planes are really mental: those who regard
them as different or higher will remain ignorant.
A Gnani is free
from experiencing the illusion [body + universe] as reality, he is fully
aware of the fact that, his body and his experience of the world as
consciousness, which is ultimate truth.
People who are
incapable to inquire and reason are tending to follow some philosophy
without verification. Therefore the more ignorant they are the easier to
get them into a religious fold. Religion is so strong and popular
because it makes no demand on the intelligent, It simply requires belief
in guru and his teachings.
It never strikes believer to doubt
whether his inherited belief system is true. They never use their
reason because they start and conclude that their belief system alone
is true, because they never question the validity of their inherited
belief.
For religion one can interpret texts as he likes, in
whatever way that pleases him, he simply imagine away. The idea of god
injected in the past and inherited by people and they refuse to verify
the facts, because they think it blasphemy even to question their
inherited belief system.
In pursuit of truth the ultimate truth has to be proved, not assumed. Pundits who take scriptures for granted are not Gnanis.
Pundits teach that all is your-self, but none of them can show that
this is so, none has analyzed it scientifically, and none can prove it.
Rational proof is needed, so that one arrive at knowing truth i.e.
wisdom; punditry is mere dogma, parrotism, repetition of what they read
in scripture. Scriptures are not yardstick and scriptural truth is not
proof. Pundits take scriptures as authority. Authoritarianism merely
assumes as true what another says, but what has yet to be proved.
Pundits have to test truth in this world not in the next world. There
is no proof other than blind belief based on the scriptures, belief is
not truth. So, doctrines are not the means to realize the ultimate
truth. There is no need to follow them.
Doubts and Confusions arise
when seeker finds the scripters and yoga are inadequate or useless to
quench his spiritual thirst. Disappointments in religion or yoga or
even science imply error or ignorance.
When serious seeker
reaches a stage with all his baggage of accumulate knowledge, then
uncertainty haunts him. Whether he is right?" Where is the certainty
that he is proceeding on right lines?" Thus doubts arise and the
inquiring spirit comes and impels to search elsewhere for truth where it
will not be possible even to have doubt. The test is therefore in
experience. And only in non-duality, where there are no two to argue
about views or to have difference of opinion can such doubtlessness be
possible. Belief depends upon unstable bases whereas certainty depends
on proof.
Seeker of truth has to get rid of his doubts through
deeper inquiry, analysis and reasoning on his own, to realize the fact
that, the self is not the form but self is formless. Thus his analysis
and reasoning has to be based on the formless not on the form. By
simply go on believing and accepting whatever said by the punditry will
not lead one towards path of wisdom. All the doubt has to be got rid of
"by the sword of Self - Knowledge." The scriptures, yoga are not
necessary if one follows the inner undefined path. Religion and yoga are not the means to path of wisdom.
What
is the state of the ego or physical self when it has realized that the
self is not the body? Such souls have attained their pristine condition.
“Self” is not visible to the physical eyes. “Self” is not to be found
in the world as a thing, entity or an object. Self is above these, has
neither beginning nor ending.
A visible object has a beginning
and an ending. Since Atman, which is in the form of consciousness is
invisible to the physical eye; Atman or consciousness is without
beginning and ending. Atman is always constant. Just as space is
homogeneous everywhere, so is the Atman the same everywhere.
The Self of all makes the senses flow outward,
Therefore one seeks outside of oneself.
Only the wise, seeking the immortal amidst mortality,
Turn their gaze away from the world
And look inward – to find the Self.
- Katha Upanishad
The individual experience within the dream is reality with in the
dream. Therefore waking reality is also is reality within the waking.
This waking is parallel dream and dream is parallel waking. Only when
self-wakes up in waking the dream becomes unreal. When the self,
consciously wakes up in its formless nondual true nature in the midst of
waking experience then all the three states are mere mirage created out
of its formless non dual true nature.
The form time and space
within the dream are falsehood when waking takes place. Similarly the
form, time and space of the waking are also falsehood when wisdom dawns.
The wisdom dawns only when one realize the self is neither the waking
entity nor the dream entity. Thus it is erroneous to judge and reason
and conclude the ultimate truth on the base of waking entity and waking
world because waking experience itself is illusion.
Suppose you
were holding the same view in the dream, all your experiences and views
are reality within the dream. The dream becomes unreal when waking takes
place. Similarly the waking becomes unreal when you become aware the
fact that, the self is not an individual. Thus whatever individual
experiences experienced within the waking is as unreal as dream.
Until one thinks body as body and world as world it is impossible to
grasp nondual truth, because his views and judgments are bases on
physical self with the physical existence. The individuality is reality
with the waking experience but the waking experience itself is false
hood. Thus holding the view as an individual within the false experience
is erroneous on the ultimate point of view. The waking is parallel
dream and dream is parallel waking experience.
In waking the universe comes: in deep sleep the waking goes. In waking is one born; in waking one dies.
In waking one lives, in Waking one suffers. In Waking one earns, in
Waking one enjoys. In Waking is one truthful or lies like a liar. In
Waking one reflects on Virtue and Sin. In Waking do one lands in Heaven
and Hell. In Waking is one happy, in Waking in sorrow. In Waking does
one lose the distinctions of caste and creed. In Waking is one wise; in
Waking is one unwise.
In Waking one has an urge to know the
truth. In Waking one is in the illusion; in Waking is one shadowed by
Doubts and confusion, in waking one thinks of reincarnation and rebirth.
In waking one thinks that he is born in this world and world existed
prior to him. In waking one is in ignorance of the true self, which is
consciousness. If one spots out the true self within the three states,
one realizes the way to freedom.
One is in action in Waking.
In Waking one is bound by form, time and space. Waking is in the form of
mind. Mind appears and disappears as waking or dream. If there is no
mind then there is no waking or dream. Waking or dream is born out of
ignorance of the true self. Getting rid of the ignorance through wisdom
is the way to the release. In Waking or dream, one follows the Writ of
habit. Waking or dream is a chronic malady; but within it also is its
remedy.
The true Self is not perceptible to the senses. It is
perceived by Reason. It is not perceptible as a thing with form and
attributes. To those whose attention is fixed on the body and the world,
it is very difficult to attain Self-knowledge. It is also very
difficult for them to see the consciousness as self. The attention
towards the universe undefined
should be lessened by realizing the self is not the body. The attention
has to be focused on the formless substance and witness of the universe undefined
should be increased. So long as the attention is directed towards the
universe, the experience of birth, life and death will prevail as
reality. But when the attention is directed towards the formless
substance and witness of the mind, the ignorance vanishes and the sense
of reality of the duality will disappear. Then there is unity in
diversity.
For
56 years I have never met anyone who is my spiritual match. (Living in
the USA may have something to do with that) Since I entered into
Formless Path I have met many who are far more than my match. Thank you
all so very much. OM
Only the dead can die, not the living. That which is alive in you is immortal.
In reality there is only the source, dark in itself, making everything
shine. Unperceived, it causes perception. Unfelt, it causes feeling.
Unthinkable, it causes thought. Non-being, it gives birth to being. It
is the immovable background of motion. Once you are there, you are at
home everywhere. ~Nisargadatta Mahraj
With
the fundamentalist Christians surrounding me. I was always the one who
had to "shut up." Even in my teens I was kicked out of Bible study
groups! It's been a long haul!
Daily Buddhist Wisdom
"Anyone who, even for a second, feels a pure, clear confidence on
hearing the truth will experience immeasurable happiness. Why? Because,
at that moment, that person is not caught up in the concept of a self or
a living being or a life span. He is not caught up in concepts about
the world, nor is he caught up in concepts about nothingness. He does
not take any notice o...f the idea that this is a sign, or this or that
is not a sign. For if you are caught up in ideas, then you will be
caught up in the self. And even if you are caught up in ideas about
nothingness, you will still be caught up in the self. That's why we
should not get attached to the belief that things either exist or do not
exist. This is the hidden meaning when I say that my teachings are a
raft to be abandoned when you see true being."
~Diamond Sutra
Osho Quotes on U G Krishnamurti
Just the other day I was reading a lecture of U. G. Krishnamurti.
He says he went to see Ramana Maharshi. He was not attracted -- because
he was chopping vegetables. Yes, Ramana Maharshi was that kind of man,
very ordinary. Chopping vegetables! U. G. Krishnamurti must have gone to
see somebody extraordinary sitting on a golden throne or something.
Ramana Maharshi just sitting on the floor and chopping vegetables?
preparing vegetables for the kitchen! He was very much frustrated.
Then another day he went and saw him reading jokes. Finished for
ever! This man knows nothing. This man is very ordinary. He left the
ashram; it was not worth it. But I would like to say to you: this man,
Ramana Maharshi, is one of the greatest Buddhas ever born to the world.
That was his Buddhahood in action!
U. G. Krishnamurti must
have been in search of a pretender. He could not see the ordinariness
and the beauty of it and the grace of it. And this same man, U. G.
Krishnamurti, lived with Swami Sivanand of Rishikesh for seven years --
and that chap was just stupid -- and practised yoga with him. And after
seven years he recognized that he has nothing; but after seven years, he
took seven years. That simply shows that he also has a mighty dull
mind. Seven years to see that Sivanand has nothing. Seven seconds are
more than enough! And with Ramana Maharshi, seven seconds were enough --
because he saw him chopping vegetables or reading jokes, looking at
cartoons. That's how the ordinary mind, the egoistic mind functions.
The ego is always searching for something bigger, some bigger ego.
And the true sage has no ego; he is an ordinary man. He is utterly
ordinary -- that is his extraordinariness!
I would
like to say to U. G. Krishnamurti: he should have looked in the eyes of
Ramana Maharshi. He looked only at the hands which were chopping
vegetables. He should have looked into his eyes -- with what love he was
chopping the vegetables. He should have looked into his eyes to see
what love he was. He was the Real Man.
There is only one
indication and that is love. But to understand love you have to be a
little silent, a little loving, a little open. If you are full of
prejudices about how the enlightened man should be, then you will go on
missing. You should not have any prejudices. Just look into the eyes of a
real man, and suddenly something will start stirring in your heart too.
Tears will come to your eyes, your energy will have a great delight,
your heart will throb with new vigour. Your soul will spread its wings.
People used to miss Sri Ramana because he was silent; he would not
say much. Just the other day I mentioned U.G. Krishnamurti. When he saw
Ramana Maharshi reading joke books nad looking at cartoons, he was very
much frustrated. Not only that: a man asked a question about God and
U.G. Krishnamurti was present there -- very seriously, bowing at his
feet, a man asked about God. And what did Sri Ramana do? do you know? He
gave him a joke book and said, "Read it!"
Naturally, U. G.
Krishnamurti was very much offended. Is this a way? This seems to be
disrespectful to the man who has asked such a serious question -- to
give him a joke book. This is again a kick in the pants, in its own way.
What he is saying is, "What nonsense are you talking about! God? It
is not a thing to be talked about -- better read a joke book and have a
good laugh.
"If you can laugh, maybe you can know God -- not by
what I will say. But if you can laugh a hearty laugh, a belly-laugh, in
that moment thinking stops."
Now, he has given a great
message without saying a single word. Have you not watched it? When you
laugh you are off mind. For a moment you are no more in the mind.
Laughter takes you somewhere else. Where does it take you? It takes you
to the same place where meditation takes you. So if you see a very
serious and sad man and he claims that he is meditating, know well that
he is not meditating. Meditation is always dancing. It is never serious,
sad -- it is sincere, of course, but never sad. It is joyous, it is
gay.
