It is not correct to say waking/dream exists only inside, and there is nothing external. Waking/dream exist externally. Waking/ dream, wherein are outside true self/soul. Yet it is only a mirage. People think wrongly because they view and judge it on the base of waking entity inside the mirage. For Gnani there is no internal or external. He is fully aware of the fact that internal external is within the mirage.
Gnani do not oppose such common experience because he is fully aware people are taking about it on the base of their waking entity within the duality.
