All the guru based knowledge are of the religion and yoga not Self- knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.

One becomes limited to the concepts, names and forms within the duality (waking   or dream).  The 'I' is mind. the mind is in the form of universe. The universe appears as waking or dream . Mind  originates from the soul. The soul  or consciousness, which is the innermost self.

Realizing the soul as the true self is truth or self  realization. Soul is limitless, permanent and unchanging, and by its nature non-dual and universal. The soul witnesses  the mirage, which comes and goes as three states. There is no need to study the scriptures in order to acquire the self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana. By realizing the fact that,  the soul, which is present in the form of consciousness is the formless substance, witness and the source of the 'I'  (mind or duality or  universe or waking) .

The so called gurus are playing with words because maybe the meaning is floating somewhere in between the spaces of words.

People who think themselves to be in a position to air their knowledge forget one basic fact, namely that they go by mere appearances. Someone expounds knowledge and the one who receives it begins to ape the person from whom he has received the knowledge. Thus, whatever the teacher wears, he will wear; whatever mannerisms the teacher affects, he  imitates. Moreover, the transfer of so-called "knowledge" has been only of concepts. This is essentially how tradition becomes established and tradition forms of worship come into being, all of which has nothing to do with the Self- knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana. All the guru based knowledge are of the religion and yoga not  Self- knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.

If someone has acquired self-knowledge and shares his acquired knowledge with others, they cannot say that there is nothing for them to do. Everyone has to discover a fresh for himself by verifying all the facts. Each one has to grasp assimilate and realize it until he gets firm conviction of the ultimate truth or Brahman.

Mind appears due to ignorance. Without ignorance the mind ceases to exist.  Thus mind is in the form of universe and appears as waking or dream.  The waking or dream is state of duality. Thus seeker has to hold wherever there is duality there is ignorance.  If duality is considered as reality than the experience of birth, life, death and the world is considered as reality.  If experience birth, life, death and the world is considered as reality than the form, time and space is becomes a reality. If form, time and space is becomes reality as reality than there is diversity in unity.  To bring back the unity in diversity, one has to put the ego in to reverse gear until it reaches the ultimate end or source from where mind rises and subsides.

The Seeker has to grow from the inside out by soul centric reasoning. None can teach him none can make him to reach the ultimate end of understanding. There is no other guru but the formless consciousness, which the innermost self.
