In ignorance there is duality. In wisdom there is only non-duality The soul, the innermost self is one without the second. The soul is present in the form of consciousness (spirit). It is the same consciousness (soul) manifests as the whole universe. The consciousness itself is ultimate truth or Brahman. Consciousness is the ultimate cause of the universe and it itself is uncaused. The seeker of truth must convince himself of this truth by soul-centric reasoning. –FORMLESS PATH
When the mind appears then the duality appears. When there is duality, man and his experience of the world are there. The very search for physical happiness is cause of the misery. The pain and pleasure are part of the illusory duality. On standpoint of the formless witness of the three states are mere an illusion . the pleasure and pain, birth, life, death and the world are mere illusion. the seeker has to learn to view and judge the three states on the standpoint of the formless soul,which is the formless witness frees one from the experiencing the duality as reality.
Clinging to the formless witness leads to non-dualistic self-awareness.whatever known is mere illusion and the formless witness is the knower of the known. All the physical existence(waking) is known, and the knower(soul or consciousness) is apart and is real.
'I' is not the self . seeker has to get rid of the idea that 'I' is the self and stops his search for truth thinking the ‘I’ is the self . the soul,which is the formless witness of the ‘I’ is the true self.
Without realizing “What is ‘I’, it is impossible to go beyond duality, which appears and disappears as mind.
Soul or consciousness is second to none. Therefore, there is a need to realize the existence of the formless witness of the three states in order to realize the witness (soul) and witnessed (three states) are one in essence. That essence is formless soul or consciousness, the innermost self. The innermost self is ‘I’ –LESS birthless, deathless because it is formless.
The witness can never be something known. The waking entity (ego), being known cannot be the witness. Whatever is seen or known is taken to be real due to ignorance. Without ignorance there neither the witness nor witnessed because both are one in essence.
Whatever appears and disappears is not real. The formless witness of the appearance is real and eternal. That which is conscious of the subject and object is the formless soul, the innermost self. It is of which each one is absolutely certain and yet it cannot be proved because it is self-evident.
